What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

In this poignant, hilarious and deeply intimate call to arms, Hollywood's most powerful woman, the mega-talented creator of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal and executive producer of How to Get Away with Murder and Catch, reveals how saying YES changed her life - and how it can change yours too. With three hit shows on television and three children at home, Shonda Rhimes had lots of good reasons to say no when invitations arrived. Hollywood party? No. Speaking engagement? No. Media appearances? No. And to an introvert like Shonda, who describes herself as 'hugging the walls' at social events and experiencing panic attacks before press interviews, there was a particular benefit to saying no: nothing new to fear. Then came Thanksgiving 2013, when Shonda's sister Delorse muttered six little words at her: You never say yes to anything. Profound, impassioned and laugh-out-loud funny, in Year of Yes Shonda Rhimes reveals how saying YES changed - and saved - her life. And inspires readers everywhere to change their own lives with one little word: Yes.

First Lines:

I'm a liar.

And I don't care who knows it.

This is what joy looks like to a woman with genius.

What I'll (Probably) Read Next:

Blurb:

An invitation to join The Fifth Avenue Story Society gives five New York strangers a chance to rewrite their own stories.

Executive assistant Lexa is eager for a much-deserved promotion, but her boss is determined to keep her underemployed.

Literature professor Jett is dealing with a broken heart, as well as a nagging suspicion his literary idol, Gordon Phipps Roth, might be a fraud.

Uber driver Chuck just wants a second chance with his kids.

Aging widower Ed is eager to write the true story of his incredible marriage.

Coral, queen of the cosmetics industry, has broken her engagement and is on the verge of losing her great grandmother’s multimillion-dollar empire.

When all five New Yorkers receive an anonymous, mysterious invitation to the Fifth Avenue Story Society, they suspect they’re victims of a practical joke. No one knows who sent the invitations or why. No one has heard of the literary society. And no one is prepared to bare their deepest secrets to a roomful of strangers.

Yet curiosity and loneliness bring them back week after week to the old library. And it’s there they discover the stories of their hearts, and the kind of friendship and love that heals their souls.

Book Blogger Hop:

Q.   How many books have you read this year? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews

A.  It is shameful how little I've read this year!

It is shameful because I remember a time in my life when I would read a book every 1-2 days.  When I couldn't stand not to be reading a book.

Growing up, I remember my Mom telling me to "get your nose out of that book"!   :)  Good memories :)

All that to say that I'm now reading my 12th book of the year.

Pitiful...

Bookishly Yours,

  1. I had much higher expectations of how much I'd read this year too, so I understand that. But I think I enjoyed everything I read, so there's that! The Rachel Hauck book looks good - such a pretty cover!

  3. I loved Rachel Hauck's book! I like the cover of the Christmas one and "Yes" sounds good. I have had more time to read this year than any other year and have read 245 books. I doubt I will have another year like it, usually my goal is 100. Happy reading! https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2021/12/first-line-friday-30-behind-loves-wall.html

  5. My method is: I never ever count how many books I read. I could count the number of reviews written, but I skip some that I read. Why worry? be happy

  6. Added Year of Yes and Story Society to my list. I read some of the reviews of Story Society and am curious to see for myself why some people are SO ANGRY about the religious aspects. I'm not a religious person myself and religion in books doesn't bother me so I'm really curious!

  7. You are a book blogger so of course you think tht twelve books is just a few, but most people in the world don't read any books, or they might get around to reading one or two. You read one a month which matches up closely with the due dates at the library. Good job. My Sunday Salon Post

  9. Your books look good. It isn't the quantity of books that matter as long as you are reading and enjoying what you read. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  10. Sadly life can get in the way of reading. I had years working and being a homeschooling mother at night when I don't recall getting to read. Once they graduated high school I was able to get back to multiple reading. :-)
I like Hauck and Pettrey. Merry Christmas and Happy Reading!
