Book Review ~ One Thing I Know by Kara Isaac

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Title:  One Thing I Know by Kara Isaac
Series:  N/A
Pages:  368
Date Published:  February 12, 2019
Publisher:  Howard Books
 Blurb:
A fresh, heartfelt romance involving a case of mistaken identity when a ghostwriter masquerades as a relationship expert and the man who is determined to expose her holds not only the key to her success, but also her heart…
Rachel Somers is America’s #1 relationship coach—America just doesn’t know it. Rachel writes the books, but her Aunt Donna plays the face of the operation. Afraid of their secret being exposed, Rachel has no choice but to keep up the charade or lose the big money required to care for her father.
Lucas Grant is a star of late night radio and set on achieving his dream of syndication. When a big-time producer calls, it looks like his hard work is about to pay off. But the offer comes with a catch—the producer is convinced Dr. Donna is not what she seems and he wants Lucas to discover her secret. To do that, he needs to win over her tight-lipped assistant who holds the key to his success and—he begins to suspect—his heart. Can love find a way through the lies that force them apart?
My Thoughts:
My last book review was published in January.  I've been in a bit of a reading slump and have been working on other projects.  I'm barely getting this book finished in February!  Luckily, it is a Leap Year or I wouldn't have had ANY book reviews in February.
I knew just from the blurb and knowing this author that it would be a great book to get out of a slump and back into reading a bit each day.
I love reading books about books!  So much fun!
The author unfolded the back story beautifully with just the right amount in each chapter to really suck me in.  Then she added just the right amount of romance and angst to fully engulf me in the story.
Rachel is a complex character who is carrying around a lot of guilt for a few different reasons.  Lucas is a lovable character who just wants to talk sports but is really good at giving relationship advice but not taking it.
This was such a great story to read!  I loved a few of the side characters and would love to read more about them in the future.  This book is not listed as part of a series so I don't know if Lacy's or Anna's will ever be told...
Kara Isaac has become one of my go-to authors.  I've read a few of her novels now and have loved each and every one.
If you'd like to read a few of the lines from the book click HERE!
Onto the next book!
Rachel Somers wasn't sure what bothered her more:  conning most of America, or the fact that they'd been doing it for almost a decade and no one even suspected.
 Q.  Tomorrow is Leap Year. Name one book being released in 2020 that you would prefer to skip. (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
 A.  This is a hard one for me because I'm trying to only read books from my shelf this year.  I guess I would have to skip ALL the books being released in 2020 to stick to my goal!
Journal Entry ~ 2/20/20-2/25/20
A few sentences about each day...
February 20, 2020 - February 25, 2020
20/Thurs ~ This was a pretty normal Thursday.  I did the laundry and wrote out bills.  Then I made the rounds to the bank, post office and gas station.  The rest of the day was pretty ho-hum and actually a bit boring.  I can't wait to be able to go outside more!
21/Fri ~ I had a doctor's appointment today.  It was an annual check-up where I got orders for my annual mammogram and routine blood work.  I'm scheduled next Friday for the mammogram at 8:30am so the plan is to get my blood work done then also.  Today was also my weigh in day and I lost 1.4 pounds!
22/Sat ~ We had an "Active Shooter Training" at the Church today.  It was very informative.  What a scary world we live in!
23/Sun ~ I tried to take Laken to our local urgent care clinic to have her ears checked (they are hurting her) but it was a 3 hour wait!  I gave her some pain medication and will take her to the pediatrician's office tomorrow morning during the walk-in hours before school.
24/Mon ~ I took Laken to the pediatrician's office first thing this morning.  The doctor said that it is just a cold and her ears look good.  We're treating the symptoms.  Kaylee and I were going to go to the gym but it was 53F.  We went for a walk outside instead and it was glorious!  I am so looking forward to Spring and changing the clocks!
25/Tues ~ It was a rainy day but at least it wasn't snowing!  I wanted to get the cars cleaned out today but it didn't happen.  I'll try to get them done tomorrow.  A Pittsburgh Pirates game was on TV this evening!  Yay for Spring Training!
Until next week,
Movie Reviews ~ Midway and Hacksaw Ridge
This past weekend was a WWII movie weekend.
We started off by watching "Midway" on Friday night and then on Saturday we watched "Hacksaw Ridge".
Image result for midway the movie
We saw the preview for "Midway" while getting ready to watch a movie a few weekends ago.  When I saw it in the Redbox, I snagged it up as the hubby and I both thought it looked interesting.  I didn't know much about the Battle of Midway.  Of course, I'm familiar with Pearl Harbor and how the United States got involved in WWII but Midway was new territory for me.
The movie was great!  I love history so it especially appealed to me.  The hubby was a bit bored in some parts but I thought the whole movie was interesting, even the low key scenes that were setting up for bigger scenes.  I especially liked the whole concept of the decoders.
The movie was realistic and graphic in a "war movie" sense.  Please use caution with younger children.
Image result for hackshaw ridge the movie
"Hacksaw Ridge" is an older movie that we realized we had never sat down and watched.  I knew that it had gotten a lot of awards but, man, it was amazing!
The story of Desmond Doss was so very interesting.  I loved the movie from start to finish.  It had to be absolutely horrific to go through what our Military goes through each and every day to keep us safe and free.
Again, this movie was VERY realistic and was very bloody.  We didn't allow our 13 year old to watch it with us as I knew it would be upsetting to her.  Use caution.
Watching these movies pretty much back-to-back was a very eye-opening experience.  We didn't intend to have a WWII themed weekend but it was well worth the time.
Have you seen either of the movies?  What did you think of them?
Tuesday 4 ~ 2/25/20
https://mytuesday4meme.blogspot.com/
Head over to Tuesday's Place for the questions and to visit everyone's answers!
1.  You're having a lovely dinner party for friends and family.  What will you serve for appetizers, main course and dessert?
We're a pretty informal bunch.  Appetizers would probably be cheese and crackers.  The main course would maybe be Lasagna and Garlic Bread.  The dessert is where it is at with Lemon Delight!
 2. Snow storm!    You've got house guests and you're all stuck inside for the night. What do you prepare for dinner.  Will you  watch a movie? Which?
Dinner would have to be something we had on hand so maybe spaghetti or grilled cheese and soup of some kind.  If we're stuck in the house then we probably wouldn't have cable (joys of country life) so we'd probably play a game of 500 Rummy or Monopoly.
3. We are going into New York City for the weekend. Where do you want to go?
I've been to New York City a few times but I've yet to see the Empire State Building or Ground Zero.
4. You are going to night school.  They offer courses in writing short stories, painting,   piano  or guitar lessons,simple home repairs,baking, and gardening.
Which do you pick  ( or make up one of your own)  and why?
I'd pick baking as that is something I love to do.  I'm a fairly decent baker already but I'd love to be able to decorate cupcakes and cakes.
A few sentences about each day...
February 13, 2020 - February 19, 2020
13/Thurs ~ We got our taxes done this morning.  It feels good to have that done and out of the way.  Laken was supposed to have a four-day weekend but tomorrow is a snow make-up day.  It has been a very mild winter so far.
14/Fri ~ Shawn took Kaylee out for Valentine's Day.  Doug took me and Laken to Cracker Barrel and also bought us chocolate!  We got a few movies from the Redbox but didn't get a chance to watch them yet.  We'll do that tomorrow.
15/Sat ~ Laken spent the afternoon at a friend's house.  I did some housework then Doug and I watched a movie.  Kaylee spent a long time this afternoon working on a Sociology paper.
16/Sun ~ We came home early from evening Church because Kaylee wasn't feeling well.  I'm not feeling the best either.  I hope we're not getting a stomach bug!
17/Mon ~ Today was President's Day so the girls were home.  I was supposed to have a check-up but I rescheduled it for Friday.  Kaylee is buying her very first car!  We test drove it today and she loves it.  It is a 2008 Ford Edge and the color is Orange Crush.  She is really excited!
18/Tues ~ We picked up Kaylee's vehicle today and got everything transferred.  She is a happy camper :)  Laken said that her first vehicle is going to be a truck.  A Ford Super Duty to be exact!
19/Wed ~ Kaylee and I were going to go to the gym but the sun was shining and the birds were chirping so went outside for a walk.  It was still very chilly so we weren't out for long but it was nice to be out in the sun even for a short while.
Until next week,
It's Monday~ What Are You Reading? ~ 2/24/20
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I definitely have Spring Fever!  Only 2 more weeks until we Spring Forward the clocks and I can't wait!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I read last week:
Nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  I want to remedy that this week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm reading now:

Well, I'm getting ready to start reading it tonight!  I've made up my mind that instead of going directly to bed, I'm going to spend at least 30-60 minutes reading.  I miss my reading time.  I'm really looking forward to some nicer weather so that I can sit on the porch swing and read...sigh....

Blurb:

A fresh, heartfelt romance involving a case of mistaken identity when a ghostwriter masquerades as a relationship expert and the man who is determined to expose her holds not only the key to her success, but also her heart…

Rachel Somers is America’s #1 relationship coach—America just doesn’t know it. Rachel writes the books, but her Aunt Donna plays the face of the operation. Afraid of their secret being exposed, Rachel has no choice but to keep up the charade or lose the big money required to care for her father.

What I'll be reading next:

Blurb:

Telegraph operator Lucy Drake is a master of Morse code and has made herself a valuable asset to the Associated Press news agency. But the sudden arrival of Sir Colin Beckwith at rival British news agency Reuters puts her hard-earned livelihood at risk. Colin is talented, handsome, insufferably charming—and keeping a secret that jeopardizes his reputation.

Despite their rivalry, Lucy can't deny that Colin has the connections she needs to give her family an edge in the long legal battle they've been waging over their rightful inheritance. But when she negotiates an unlikely alliance with him, the web of treachery they dive into proves to be far more dangerous than they ever could have known.

Weekly Weigh In ~ 2/19/20

Last week I was at the end of my rope with WW and I did end up cancelling my subscription.

I've been going between using www.sparkpeople.com and using a notebook.

Spark People is a lot like the WW website but is free.  BUT, there are advertisements that seems to bog down my loading time.  I've been playing around with it for a few days and don't miss the WW website or app at all.

Exercise has been sporadic as I went a bit rogue for a week with my diet and exercise.  Kaylee and I did go outside for a walk today as the sun was shining.  It ended up being a bit chilly with the wind factor but it felt so good to get outside in the sun!

I also got a new digital scale to weigh in on Friday mornings at home.  I'll see how it goes...

I'd like to thank those who commented last week with their encouragement and love.  It means a lot :)

Now,

On to the weigh in:

WW Starting Weight ~ 7/27/19 ~ 290.8 lbs
2020 Starting Weight ~ 12/28/19 ~ 270.2 lbs

Last Week's Weight ~ 2/8/20 ~ 271.6 lbs

This Week's Weight ~ 2/14/20 ~      272.0 lbs

This Week's Total:    +0.4 lbs

Grand Total: -18.8 lbs

I'll be weighing in on Saturdays and posting my results on Wednesday.  If you'd like to join in on the journey, I'd love to have some weight loss friends!

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 2/17/20

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The weather outside is::::
Spring-like!
Friday was very cold and wintry at 12F but by Sunday (yesterday) it was 52F!
We even saw our first robin of the year :)
On my breakfast plate:
Special K Cinnamon Pecan Cereal
As I look around the house::::
I got pretty much all the housework and laundry finished over the weekend.  I'm feeling pretty good about it.
On today's to do list::::
I'm supposed to have a dr's appt (regular check-up) this afternoon but I think I'm going to reschedule.  There's no school today for the girls and I just don't feel like going to my appt.  I mean, I'd have to shave my legs and everything!
Happening this week::::
Devotions:  Our Really Bad Girl of the Bible this week is the "Woman caught committing adultery".  We went over the first half of the lesson as time allowed.  Did you ever wonder what Jesus was writing in the sand that made the Pharisees think about their own sins and leave without stoning the woman?  We had a great time of discussion.
Diet:  I bit the bullet and cancelled my WW subscription.  I'm thinking of just using www.sparkpeople.com to keep track of my eating.  Sparkpeople counts calories.  I also got a new scale so that I can weigh myself.  That is the plan for now.
Exercise:  We only made it to the gym twice this week.  I'm hoping to go this week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and get back to our normal schedule.
Housework:  Saturday was a nice afternoon for housework.  I got the laundry finished, the floors swept, the bedding washed and the beds remade and the Family Room picked up all in good time.
Doug:  The hubby is working third shift again this week.  Not much new going on with him.  We did go out for Valentine's Day to Cracker Barrel.  He even bought me some Hershey's milk chocolate :)
Kaylee:  Kaylee is looking for her first car and with that will come her first job.  We worked on applications for part-time jobs on Sunday afternoon after Church.  She applied to the normal places including Chick-Fil-A.  I'd like her to get a job there as they aren't open on Sundays which would be wonderful.
Laken: Laken had a Track & Field meeting on Tuesday before school let out.  She had to fill out a form saying which events she is interested in.  She picked long jump, triple jump, pole vault and javelin.  This is a first for her so I hope she likes T&F.  Practices start on March 2nd and if she signs up, we insist that she sticks with it.
Currently reading::::
Still no reading this week but I did get a few books at Ollie's as a Valentine gift.  Which should I read first?  They are both on my list of favorite authors.
A few sentences about each day...
February 6, 2020 - February 12, 2020
6/Thurs ~ We decided not to go to the gym tonight.  Doug is trying to get over a bad cough and my back is hurting.  I think we all needed to have a night of rest.  VOTD:  2 Timothy 3:14
7/Fri ~ It was a pretty boring day until Doug and the girls go home.  Kaylee and Shawn went on a date.  Doug, Laken and I went to the Redbox and rented and watched 2 movies:  "Rambo Last Blood" and "Playing with Fire".  VOTD:  Exodus 16:20
8/Sat ~ I gained 3.2 lbs this week :(  I'm thinking about cancelling my WW subscription and trying something else.  It doesn't make sense to pay $50/month to gain weight!  VOTD:  Genesis 32:11
9/Sun ~ We had a Sweet Heart Dinner this afternoon at Church.  Doug served me my food and we had a really good time :)  We even had pictures taken.  Doug is trying to hide in this one :)
10/Mon ~ We took the car to the Subaru garage to have a recall fixed.  It should be good to go now.  I got my hair cut while waiting.  I'm not sure how I feel about it.  Hopefully I'll get used to it in a few days!  VOTD:  Acts 8:31
11/Tues ~ Today was grocery day.  I also had to pick Laken up from Science Olympiad practice and then beat feet to Ladies Meeting.  After that, I relaxed a bit by watching "Prodigal Son" and "Biggest Loser".  VOTD:  Acts 17:11
12/Wed ~ Kaylee had to go to the College Testing Center for an Algebra Test.  (She got a 95%!)  We then went to talk to an advisor and financial aid about Kaylee getting her Certificate of Recognition in Business Accounting before switching over to majoring in Art.  Afterward, we stopped at the mall and a few other places for Kaylee to get applications for a Summer job.  VOTD:  James 4:8
Weekly Weigh In ~ 2/13/20
I'm a day late posting my Weekly Weigh In because, to be honest, I wasn't even going to write it.
I'm so discouraged :(
I gained 3.2 lbs last week according to my WW weigh in!  How can that be????  I've been staying on track with my food and I've been hitting the gym regularly with the family.  I don't know what happened but it makes me just want to quit.
Not quit eating better and exercising, but to quit WW.  Why am I paying almost $50/month to gain weight?  Why am I getting up at the crack of dawn on Saturdays to go to my Workshop while my family sleeps in just to be told that I've gained 3.2 POUNDS!
I haven't cancelled my membership as it is good through the 21st but I'm seriously considering just tracking my food and exercise in a notebook and saving the time and money that is WW.  I've been battling the same 5 lbs for 5 months and I don't understand why.
Any suggestions???  I'm at a loss....
Now,
On to the weigh in:
WW Starting Weight ~ 7/27/19 ~ 290.8 lbs
2020 Starting Weight ~ 12/28/19 ~ 270.2 lbs
Last Week's Weight ~ 2/1/20 ~ 268.4 lbs
This Week's Weight ~ 2/8/20 ~      271.6 lbs
This Week's Total:    +3.2 lbs
Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 2/10/20
Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I got my hair cut today with a bit of an undercut!  What????  I'm still getting used to it!!!!  LOLOLOL!!!!

The weather outside is::::

Delightful :)  Yesterday morning on the way to Church we had 2 inches of freshly fallen snow.  Today it was 50F out!  Such a difference a day makes.  However, we're supposed to be down to 9F by Friday...

On my breakfast plate:

The hubby and I went through Burger King as we were out running errands.  I had a Ham, egg and cheese Croissant and hash browns.

As I look around the house::::

I didn't get very much done today but I'm still pretty much caught up on things.  I just need to tidy up a bit.

On today's to do list::::

We had to take the Subaru to the dealer to have 2 different recalls fixed.  It is good to know that everything should be in working order now.

Happening this week::::

Devotions:  Our Really Bad Girl of the Bible this week was still Jael as we didn't get completely done with the lesson last week.  Some takeaways were:  1.  God is in charge; 2.  Check your motives; 3.  Learn from Jael but don't imitate her; 4.  Leaders do more than command--they do!

WW:  I had a huge gain this week and am just so discouraged with myself and with WW.  I've been battling the same 5 pounds for 5 months!  I'm thinking of trying something else.  Any suggestions??

Exercise:  We've been going to the gym as a family at least 3 times a week for 1 hour each workout.  It is so much more enjoyable to be exercising as a family than by myself all the time.

Housework:  Pretty much normal this week.

Doug:  The hubby has had a nasty cough for about a week.  It seems to be improving though.  He's on third shift this week (11p-7a) but has mandatory overtime.  BTW, he says he likes my hair...

Kaylee:  Kaylee has decided NOT to go for her bachelors degree in Accounting.  I do however want her to finish up a couple classes that she needs to get her Certificate in Business Accounting before possibly switching to Art.  Art is her passion but we've discussed her options and think we've come up with a Game Plan.

Laken: Laken is enjoying being a teenager!  She made the Science Olympiad team that I think I mentioned a few weeks ago.  She had to take a test and she and her partner made the team!  She is super excited :)

Currently reading::::

I'm STILL reading:

In fact, I didn't do very much reading at all this week :(

Next, I'll probably read either a historical fiction or a nonfiction.

Weekly Weigh In ~ 2/5/20

No Workshop or Weigh In this week.  Our Youth Group had a Lock In (all night get-together with food and fun) Friday night and I'm a Youth Helper.  The Lock In wasn't over until 11am Saturday which is well after my Workshop.

I do, however, have some exercise news.  We've been going to the gym pretty regularly for a few weeks now.  Laken turned 13 years old on Sunday and can now go with us!  Monday evening was the first evening that we were able to go to the gym as an entire family of four :)  Laken was very excited to show us her "stuff" :)  We were diligent to make sure she didn't over-do herself, though!

I do mainly cardio but Doug, Kaylee and Laken do a little bit of cardio to warm up and then move on to the weights and lifting area.  I'm just not ready for that yet!  It was actually FUN!  I remember going to the gym by myself and dreading it because everyone else was at home.  I think going as a family will definitely help me be more consistent with my gym time.  I'm definitely feeling stronger!

Now,

On to the weigh in:

WW Starting Weight ~ 7/27/19 ~ 290.8 lbs
2020 Starting Weight ~ 12/28/19 ~ 270.2 lbs

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 2/3/20

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My baby, Laken, turned 13 years old yesterday.  How can that be?  I now have two teenagers, at least for another year before Kaylee turns 20!  What???  I better not take my mind down that rabbit hole!
The weather outside is::::
We has snow yesterday morning but it didn't last long.  It turned out to be a beautiful day.  Today we're supposed to get close to 60F!
On my breakfast plate:
English Muffin with Peanut Butter
As I look around the house::::
I have some blankets to wash and put away.  Other than that, not too bad :)
On today's to do list::::
Today is pretty packed.  Kaylee has a drs. appointment at 1:30pm and then we need to get groceries.  I already made the menu and grocery list.  This evening we're "scheduled" to go to the gym but it is also book fair night for Laken.  I'm not sure what we're doing exactly.
Happening this week::::
Devotions:  Our Really Bad Girl of the Bible this week was Jael who killed a bad guy by hammering a tent peg in his temple!  I've never really thought of her as being a "bad girl" because she killed the evil man but I guess she did trick him...
WW:  We had a Lock In at our Church for the Youth Friday night into Saturday morning.  I didn't make it to my Workshop because I was up all night and had pizza.  I debated leaving the Lock In and going but I didn't want to leave the other leaders in the lurch.
Exercise:  I did pretty well this week with my exercise.  This week we'll be going to the gym in the evening.  Now that Laken is 13, she can go along as my guest.
Housework:  Pretty much normal this week.
Doug:  The hubby is on daylight (7am-3pm) this week but will probably be working overtime into the evening.  He signed up for his own Planet Fitness membership because he was going as my guest but we'll need Laken to be my guest now.
Kaylee:  Kaylee wasn't feeling very well Saturday evening.  I don't know if she was getting a bug of some sort or just tired from staying up most of the night at the Lock In.  She seems to be feeling better now so that is good.
Laken:  Laken was super excited about the Lock In as it was her very first one.  She was even more excited about Sunday being her birthday and turning 13!  She loves her birthday and looks forward to it all year long :)
In fact, I didn't do very much reading at all this week :(
Next, I'll probably read either a historical fiction or a nonfiction.
