In the biggest case of her career, attorney Kate Sullivan is tapped as lead counsel to take on Mason Pharmaceutical because of a corporate cover-up related to its newest drug. After a whistleblower dies, Kate knows the stakes are much higher than her other lawsuits.
Former Army Ranger turned private investigator Landon James is still haunted by mistakes made while serving overseas. Trying to forget the past, he is hired by Kate to look into the whistleblower's allegation and soon suspects that the company may be engaging in a dangerous game for profit. He also soon finds himself falling for this passionate and earnest young lawyer.
Determined not to make the same mistakes, he's intent on keeping Kate safe, but as the case deepens, it appears someone is willing to risk everything—even murder—to keep the case from going to trial.

My Thoughts:
Rachel Dylan is a new-to-me author although I've seen many great things about her subsequent books.
I hadn't read a legal suspense novel in ages so the lingo took me a minute or two to place everything. Luckily, I've seen enough legal TV shows that it didn't take long to get into the groove :)
I liked how the author explained everything as it was happening for us legalese challenged people.
Kate was a person who struggled with depression but the author didn't get into it very much. I would have liked to see Kate's struggles a bit more as a person who struggles with anxiety and depression myself. Landon also had struggles which were much more prevalent.
I enjoyed getting to know the setting and the characters. I have a few ideas of what the rest of the books of the series will be about (at least I hope) but I look forward to seeing if I'm correct.
This was my first book by Rachel Dylan but I'm off to see if I can order more :)
