Rugelach (Made Quick and Easy)

I was intrigued with the "Rugelach", so I looked it up.  Click here for some background.

If you'd like to make these pastries the old-fashioned way, you can find the real recipe over at http://www.sweetandcrumby.com/ .

I, however, took the quick and easy route and used crescent rolls instead of make the homemade dough.  Not that I'm afraid of making homemade dough.  I just didn't have the time or inclination.  lol

Even made the quick way, these were delicious.  And so easy to make not to mention fun!

Rugelach

2 tubes Crescent Rolls
2/3 cup seedless raspberry jam
2/3 cup mini chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Glaze:
1 egg beaten
1 teaspoon water
2 Tablespoon sugar (Course if you have it)

Heat oven to 350.

Lay out a large piece of wax paper on your counter.  Unroll all the crescent rolls.

Spread a layer of raspberry jam on each roll.

Mix sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over jam.

Sprinkle chocolate chips and pecans over each roll.

Roll the crescent up trying to keep the filling in as much as possible.

In a small bowl, beat the egg and add 1 teaspoon of water.  Brush over each roll.

Sprinkle sugar on top.

Cover a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.  Carefully transer each pastry on to the cookie sheet.

Bake for about 20 minutes or until the turn golden.

Let sit for 2 minutes then trasnfer to a wire rack.

If you try one hot out of the oven, be care of the hot jam and melted chocolate!

Share with family and friends.

There are many combinations that you could fill these pastries with.  Let me know if you try them out.  Would you go the quick and easy route or the try out the homemade dough?

  8. I am going to try adding a thin spread of soft cream cheese then the nuts and cinnamon filling and see what that brings. might be very good. I actually make all sorts of small pies by wrapping a crescent around apples, peaches, pears any fruit I can wedge and bake even pineapple is really good with brown sugar and a sprinkle of coconut before rolling up.
