Journal Entry ~ 6/9/20 ~ with pictures

A few sentences about each day...

May 31, 2020 - June 6, 2020

Mon/31 ~  This should be the last Sunday Kaylee has to work for a while.  The Anniversary Sale ended May 29th and they should be getting back to normal hours soon.  Right now she is a temp, so I'm praying that her position becomes permanent.  I made Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies this afternoon to take to evening Church.  The edges were pretty crunchy but the Peanut Butter Icing was so yummy that it made up for it :)

Tues/1 ~ Happy June!  I'm so excited to turn the calendar page to a new month!  I love when a new month starts on a Monday.  It feels like a fresh new start and I, for one, am hitting the reset button!  I walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes this morning and it felt great.  I'm still using the MyWW app to track my food and exercise but have been really lackadaisical about it.  I'm also excited about today being June 1st because the #20booksofsummer20 starts today!  Whoohoo!  You can see more about it by clicking on the picture in my sidebar.

Tues/2 ~ It was a weird day weather-wise.  It got to be 80F but was so dreary and dark for most of the day.  Finally this evening, the sun came out for a while.  It didn't rain, so I was able to hang laundry out to dry.  The first rose of the summer is blooming on the rose bush that my Mom got a cutting from my Grandmother's rose bush.  It is beautiful and brings back such great memories.  Laken and I made a Graham Cracker Pudding Dessert for Bible Study tomorrow night.  We made it up as we went :)

Wed/3 ~ Big excitement here at the house today!  My Dad saw a snake going up a tree by the garden!  He came in the house to get a gun and told everyone to stay inside.  The snake disappeared into the woods before Dad could get to it...  The kids (Laken and Dex) decided to stand guard from the deck and keep an eye out for any more snakes!  The cats helped :)  Thankfully, none were seen.  I hate snakes!

Thurs/4 ~ Kaylee registered for her classes for the Fall 2020 Semester!  She'll be taking two classes online.  That will make her a part-time student.  She's still not sure about her work situation as right now she is just "seasonal".  My devotional books that I ordered from Christianbook.com arrived!  They were a long while getting here with the distribution center being shut down until last Monday.  I think I'll start with the "Devotions from the Garden".

Fri/5 ~ Laken made Doug's birthday cake today so that we can have his birthday "celebration" tomorrow at lunch because Kaylee is going to a friend's house tomorrow evening.  This evening cooled off beautifully so I walked around the house taking pictures of the flowers.  They are blooming so prettily right now.  It has been raining a bit each day so we haven't had to water the flowers or the garden very much.  I imagine that will change though.

Sat/6 ~ Today we celebrated Doug's 52nd birthday with lunch and a cake.  His actual birthday is on Tuesday but he works and we have Ladies Meeting in the evening.  Kaylee went to a work friend's house to watch scary movies.  I won't watch a scary movie so she has been a bit sheltered!  I had an appointment at 5pm to get my hair cut and eyebrows waxed.  It felt so good to get some pampering in :)  Lilah went to the groomer today also!  She looks and smells so much better :)

Until next week,

Colletta

Journal Entry ~ 5/14/20

A few sentences about each day...

May 6, 2020 - May 12, 2020

Wed/6 ~ It was rainy and cold today but fortunately the called for snow didn't materialize.  We're trying to decide if we should build a deck, a patio or save the money.  I'd really like a large patio up on the hill behind the house be we don't know if it would be worth the money.  We've been debating the pros and cons...

Thurs/7 ~ It was a beautiful day out!  Sunny and 65F made for a nice time out on the deck.  It got a bit chilly when the sun went behind a cloud but I didn't care.  I was just glad to be outside.  I'm still waiting on an order from christianbook.com.  I think the warehouse is still closed until May 18th.  I'm waiting on my new devotional.

Fri/8 ~ Laken finished the "Ruff Life" puzzle but is missing 3 pieces.  They have to be here somewhere.  It was a brand new puzzle.  Kaylee has her first full week of work under her belt.  She seems to "not mind" her job.  Her first pay is the 15th.  I have a feeling she'll like it a bit more then.  Laken and I started watching "When Hope Calls" tonight.

Sat/9 ~ It was cold and snowy today so we worked on inside projects.  I spent the entire evening curled up with a blanket and a book on the couch.  I'm loving my kindle!

Sun/10 ~  This was our last week of Home Church!  Our county moves to "yellow" on Friday!  I'm so excited!  I cut Kaylee's hair this afternoon.  I was nervous but I think it looks super cute :)  She likes and that is what matters most.

Mon/11 ~ Doug and I stopped at the Farmer's Market and got some vegetable plants for the garden.  We won't plant them yet as we're having unseasonably cold temperatures at night.  It is supposed to warm up drastically by next week with temperatures in the 80F's.  I say "bring it on"!

Tues/12 ~ I discovered today that not all Kindle books are created equally.  I started a book by a new author but ended up quitting reading it at 10% read.  I then tried another new author of a regency novel and am loving it.  I guess it is just rial and error.  At least they are "free"!

Until next week,

Colletta

Journal Entry ~ 2/26/20-3/3/20

A few sentences about each day...

February 26, 2020 - March 3, 2020

26/Wed ~ I just don't know what to do with my hair!  I don't like my current style.  I can't decide if it is the cut or the highlights.  I might go tomorrow and get "something' done but I'm still not sure what!  I wish I could find a cut/color that I like and just stick with it!

27/Thurs ~ I decided to change up my hair color.  I got rid of my blonde highlights and went with an all-over "mocha".  The highlights are shining through as a reddish color that I love!  I decided to keep the undercut (for now) but let the top layers grow to about chin length.  I have 3"-4" to go.  The stylist did a great job!

28/Fri ~ After school Laken and a few of her friends walked to a nearby coffee shop.  She thought she was big stuff!  hehe  I'm glad she had a good time and it is good for her to spread her wings a bit.

29/Sat ~ Doug worked on the bedroom closets today and we made a trip to Ollie's to look for curtains for on the closets.  Success!  Today is "Leap Day"!

1/Sun ~ February is FINALLY over and my Birth Month is here!  Happy March!

2/Mon ~ My mammogram came back normal.  Hallelujah!  Good to go for another year.  I fasted this morning so I could get my routine blood work done as well.  Now to wait for the results...

3/Tues ~ I have to make it an early night tonight.  Laken and I have to get up at 3am to her ready for the Science Olympiad.  The bus leaves the school at 5am sharp and we have a 30 minute drive to get there.  Laken is so excited about this trip!  She loves science!

Until next week,

Journal Entry ~ 1/23/20-1/29/20

A few sentences about each day...

January 23-29, 2020

23/Thurs ~ We got a wifi extender to boost the wifi upstairs as the modem is downstairs and the connection hasn't been the best.  So far it is working well and apparently the problem wasn't my laptop!  VOTD:  Mark 2:17

24/Fri ~ Kaylee and I went to the hair salon today before the rain/ice came.  I got highlights and Kaylee got a pixie cut.  It is so cute!  VOTD:  John 11:6

25/Sat ~ We had a Family Movie Night and watched the sequel of Maleficent.  I liked it better than the first movie.  VOTD: Psalm 95:6

26/Sun ~ Today I didn't feel the best.  I made it through Church in the morning and then took a Sunday afternoon nap.  I went to bed early with the hope that I'd feel better in the morning.  VOTD:  Romans 12:12

27/Mon ~ I feel much more the thing today.  I received my Valentine Swap package from Deb @ www.readerbuzz.blogspot.com in the mail today.  The chocolate didn't last long :)  I also got a letter from my Pen Pal and Kaylee got a letter stating that she made the Dean's List!  It was a good mail day :)  VOTD:  Psalm 62:8

28/ Tues ~ I wrote a letter back to my penpal with some get-to-know-me information and got it in the mail.  I got some yarn to make my "Angel" from Church a shawl for Valentine's Day. Now I just need to get it crocheted so that I can send it to her at college.  I hope she likes the color!  VOTD:  Habakkuk 2:2

29/Wed ~ I got 8000 steps in today!  That is a new record for me!  Kaylee and I went to the gym and the store.  Then I went to the dentist with Doug.  This evening was Prayer Meeting and Bible Study.  I'm beat!  VOTD:  Proverbs 12:4

September 2019 ~ Goals Update

I know I just posted my September Goals last week (a bit late) but I wanted to let you know how I did.

~ Have a Daily Devotion Time

For the most part this has been a success.  I started using a daily devotional journal from Janice Thompson called "From God's Word to a Woman's Heart" and have been enjoying it.  It is just the right length each day to fit my schedule but still feel like I've done a devotional time.  I would like to add in more Scripture reading each day and will be working on that.

~ Lose 8.4 lbs for the 3% Challenge

I don't want to call this a fail because I did lose 6.4 lbs in September.  BUT... I didn't hit my goal of 8.4 lbs.  2 lbs short :(  Onto October's 3% Challenge!

~ Celebrate our 19th Anniversary

We celebrated our 19th Anniversary with a date!  Just the two of us!  We went to Applebee's and had a very nice time together :)

~ Finish Brian and Rachel's Wedding Afghan

I didn't get Brian and Rachel's Wedding Afghan done in time for the actual Wedding on September 7th, so I set my goal to get it finished by the time they got back from their Honeymoon.  Success!  I finished it up while they were still away and had it ready to give them when they got back.  I was so anxious to give it to them that I forgot to get a picture of the finished afghan!  I'll have to have Rachel take a picture for me so that I can document it.

~ Finish Layna Bee's Baby Blanket

I finally finished Layna Bee's Blanket!  She's already 3 months old so I'm just a bit behind.  I used the Beautiful Shells pattern and think it turned out lovely!

~ Make an appt for an Eye Exam and get new contacts

Done.  Pretty straightforward :)  In fact, my eyes didn't change very much at all this year and I've stayed with the same prescription in both contacts and glasses.

~ Start growing hair out

I have a pretty short pixie-ish cut but want to grow my hair out to at least the length of this picture.  I met with our new stylist, Corinne, and told her what I wanted to do.  I got the tiniest bit of trim on the back of my hair with a plan to grow it out.  I'm exited to get some length to the sides so I can start wearing it curly again.

~ Get a new Planner

I wanted to get a new planner because (as much as I can't believe it)  I've started making appointments for the year 2020 and wanted to be able to keep track of everything.  I found this planner at Wal-Mart and absolutely love it!  It has a prayer and Bible verse each week that I really enjoy and it was only around $8.00!

Overall, I'm pleased with my progress this month.  I'll be posting my October goals tomorrow, so stay tuned :)

Thankful Thursday ~ 2/21/19

~Valentine's Day goodies from the hubby!  The hubby and I had our Valentine's Date the Saturday before Valentine's Day but first thing Valentine's Day morning he gave me a card and Reese Cups :)  He knows the way to my heart :)

~Cupcakes and Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars!  Laken has been baking up a storm lately.  On Valentine's Day, after she got home from school, she baked Strawberry Cupcakes and decorated them for us.  Monday evening, she baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars.  She wants to make cupcakes again Friday evening.  In case you haven't guessed she wants to own a bakery when she grows up.  Either that or be a meteorologist :)

~My Gym Buddy!  Never in a million years would I have dreamed that my gym buddy would be my very own DAUGHTER!  How can I be old enough to have a daughter who is almost 18 years old?  I was just 18 years old yesterday, wasn't I?  Anyway, Kaylee and I have been hitting the gym (Planet Fitness) 3 times a week on our days "off".  She is kicking my butt :)

~The hubby's new haircut!  The hubby has the thickest head of hair I've ever seen on a man.  I was "long" overdue for a buzz but we just didn't have the opportunity or take the time.  Finally, after I told it was starting to look like Darth Vader's helmet, he made it a point to get the buzzers out for me and put the chair in the bathroom.  I buzzed it with a No.2 guard and then took the guard off to trim the nape.  He forgot the guard was off and tried to clean up a few stray hairs!  Needless to say, his whole head had to be gone over without a guard.  It is SUPER short!  P.S. Don't tell him I posted a picture of him napping with his blankie :)

~Snow days and Thundersnow!  Thursday school was cancelled due to the weather.  Not only did it snow and sleet, we had Thundersnow!  It was a bit startling!  The kids had fun hanging out in the Family Room ripping and running :)

What are you thankful for today?

Tuesday Talk ~ Lately ~ 2/19/19

http://www.alittlebitofeverythingblog.com/

Today I'm joining Ashley and Erika for Tuesday Talk!

Things I'm thinking about lately:

1.  I have a mammogram scheduled on February 26th.  This is not a new thing for me.  I've been getting mammograms since I was 35, so for 5 years now.  Early screening is kind of a big deal in my family.  Breast cancer is prevalent in our family history.  My grandmother, Audrey, ultimately passed away due to breast cancer complications of breast cancer.  I get a little scared every time I have a mammogram.  The "What Ifs" kick in and stay there until I get the A-OK from my results.

2.  We're having a Family Night on Saturday.  Once a month we make it a point to go out as a family.  It might be for a sit down dinner and a movie at the theater or it could be fast food and a Redbox movie.  I think the consensus amidst the family is to go see "How to Train Your Dragon 3" at the theater.  So I need to quickly catch up on "How to Train Your Dragon 2" or I'm going to be lost!

3.  Every year come February/March I start to become dissatisfied with my hair.  I'm currently trying to grow out a terrible pixie cut and it is taking way too long.  This is about the time that I say "chop it all off!".  I hate the awkward stage of growing out a short cut.  It isn't too bad right now style-wise but I'm getting antsy about the color.  I have a few grays that are coming in and all my color has grown out.  So...should I let my hair go natural (mouse brown with grays and all), color to something like the picture below or get highlights to brighten my hair up overall?  What do you think?

What have you been thinking about lately???

Tea Time ~ Senior Moments and Little League ~ 5/4/18

Grab a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or your favorite drink
while I share a few things about my life lately...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~I finally ordered Kaylee's Senior pictures!  I have decided that I just have to face the fact that she is graduating at the end of the month.  I ordered the pictures last Saturday and received them yesterday.  I paid $15 additional for quick delivery.  Now to address all the Graduation Announcements and hand out pictures to family and friends.
~We went to Dexter's first Little League game on Tuesday evening!  I asked him Tuesday morning what color his uniform was and he said "Red".  We all wore red shirts to support him and here it turns out his uniform is burgundy!  Typical male!  We had a great time watching him play and the weather was beautiful :)
~I went to the hair salon and got my annual highlights.  I really debated not getting any this year because of the maintenance but I really wanted to lighten up my hair color for spring/summer.  I love how it turned out.  I'm also trying to grow out my short cut and thought changing up my color a bit would help stave off the "gotta cut it" urge.
~Tomorrow is PROM!  The theme is "Winter Wonderland".  The Juniors always decorate the gym and I can't wait to see how it turned out.  I'll try to post some picture of Kaylee and Shawn.  I'm hoping it doesn't rain!
~Laken participated in the "Envirothon" at Shawnee State Park this week.  She was in charge of "Mammals and Birds".  She spent many evening listening to  birdcalls on youtube.  Her team didn't place but she was very excited to receive a T-Shirt!
~Another "Senior" moment happened last night.  Kaylee had her final band concert.  She had a solo and I was so proud of her.  She was the only Senior in the band and the director was very eloquent in his tribute to her.  He also gave her a stuffed bear with a cap and gown holding a flute.  So cute!  She loves it!
How was your week?
Journal Entry ~ 2/14/18
Happy Valentine's Day!
It has been a busy, busy day.
~I had my yearly bloodwork and mammogram done this morning.  Apparently, I don't drink enough water and my veins weren't "well hydrated".  It took a while to get all the tubes of blood they needed to check whatever it is they are checking.  The mammo was fairly painless.  At least as painless as it can be.  I didn't stick around to get the results.  They'll be mailed to my house.  I pray all is well!
~I stopped by the mall to get my eyebrows done and decided to run into Wal-Mart and get some hair-coloring.  All the coloring that I had from before had grown out and too many grays to pull out were popping up.  The color I picked out isn't extremely different from my natural color.  It just has a bit of red tinting amidst the brown.  It is called Raspberry Truffle and I quite like it.  Now if this horrible hair cut would just grow out a bit faster..
~When I picked the girls up at school, Kaylee informed me that her ear was hurting.  I decided to take her to Med Express and get it checked out.  She does, indeed, have an ear infection.  They prescribed an antibiotic for the infection.  We got to the pharmacy and they had a 30 minute wait.  Ollie's is just down the road, so we decided to head there to kill some time.  I didn't see any books that jumped out at me and it is just as well, because I have a ton of books and haven't even been reading all that much lately.
~Doug went against our agreement and got me a Valentine's Day Card!  Unfortunately, I didn't know he was going to go against our agreement and I didn't get him one!  He also got me some Reese Hearts.  He knows Reese's are my favorite.  He has such a big heart.  Love him!
~The only things I didn't get to on my to-do list today are reading and crocheting.  Those two are always pushed to the back burner as they aren't "necessary".  The new Moogly 2018 CAL block #3 comes out tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll get some time either Friday or Saturday to sit down and crochet.
For now,
Colletta
{this moment} ~ Kaylee's New 'Do
{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo (or 2, or 3) - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.
Stuck Like Glue & Hair
I LOVE Sugarland!  I can't wait to get their new CD.
I was determined to grow my curly hair out long, long, long again.  Lately, though, it has been getting on my nerves.  Then I saw this video.
I think this video is hilarious and isn't Jennifer Nettle's hair just too cute.
Needless to say, I went to my lovely hairdresser, Tabbie, and had her chop about 6 inches off the length and then stack the back.  It is very similar to how I've had it before.
I LOVE it.  I hate pictures of myself so I don't know if I'll be brave enough to post one for you to see it.
Maybe...
