This hop is to mark the end of the Mayan calendar on 12/21/12 and all the speculation that abounds as to the reason it ends.
I, for one, think they just stopped marking it or it is to be repeated as our calendar does. I mean, really, our calendar ends every year so we just go buy a new one!
For some reason this book struck me as being a good "End of the World" book so I will be giving it away in this hop:

The Mayan "End Of The World" hoopla can be fun but sometimes it could be overplayed.
ReplyDeleteI study the Maya in university, and the calendar isn't ending. One cycle is ending (the thirteenth), which will then be followed by the next cycle (the fourteenth). All this mis-informed talk about the Maya is kind of infuriating :(

I think the Mayan calendar just starts a new cycle.

If the world is going to end, it's not like there is anything that anyone can do about it. Everyone should enjoy everyday as though it were their last. There is no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow, no matter what day it is.

ReplyDeleteI think it's just a scare tactic...the world isn't actually ending. Not from that, at least. Right now, global warming seems the most likely to do us in. Either that or nuclear warfare. Not the Mayan calendar situation.

I think it's pretty silly and they waste so much time about it on the History channel!

From what I have understood, the Mayan cal. only went to 12 and then it started all over, and with the leap year and all that the world should have ended in July 2011 or something like that.

The Mayan calendar is circluar; therefore the circle is starting over (think of a clock striking midnight) its awesome bc instead of 24 hours like a clock its a 50 year long calendar. :) So ya, no end of the world...................as an anthropology major this is getting really annoying.

The world isn't going to end now if it didn't end last year or the thousand other times it was predicted to end. When it does end, no one will see it coming.

My thoughts on this Mayan calendar, end of the world thing is just a lot of s&$&! I'm tired of groups, religions and so on saying that the world will end of a certain day. I just ignore it all.
ReplyDeletelivvie_v@yahoo.com
The Mayans may have thought the world was going to end, but that was a long time ago and many things have changed.

first off we are so conseadead as a species just to think because we die its the end of the world secondly really how many times are people going to buy into crazy end of the world things remember 1999 when our computers were going to all crash because when it turned 2000 the clocks would revert the computers back to when they didnt exist or some crazyniss like that i still dont get it

I think the Mayans only issued calendars planned out for so many 400 year increments. Kind of like you have to special order 10-year calendars today. I mean, they would have plenty of time to chisel out more future-projecting calendars....well, they would have except for that whole European invasion.
