My Cover Crush this week is:

A Carol for Christmas

Never underestimate the true spirit of Christmas ...Carol Burke was born to sing. It was the life she had always dreamed of. There was only one thing she loved more, one person for whom she would willingly sacrifice her dreams: Jonathan Burke. Married against their parents' wishes, both are determined to make a life together despite the hardships. Jonathan works hard at his father's department store, leaving Carol alone in their tiny apartment. But long hours turn into late nights, thanks to Jonathan's insatiable desire to prove himself to his father ... even at the expense of the one he loves best.Into the midst of an increasingly empty marriage comes an unexpected chance for Carol to sing again. Is this the opportunity of a lifetime, or a time for her to let go and trust her future to God? Carol knows one thing: she longs most of all to share her first Christmas with Jonathan, creating their own memories and traditions and breathing new life into their marriage.Then a broken promise leaves her wondering. Can anything, anyone--even God--heal her crumbling hopes? The answer comes when Carol finds herself face-to-face with the true spirit of Christmas ...

Title:  "Every Perfect Gift"
Series:  Hickory Ridge Romance Book #3
Author:  Dorothy Love
Publisher:  Thomas Nelson Publishing
Publication Date:  12/4/12
Pages:  320
Buy From Amazon:  HERE

Book Description:

Sophie has spent a lifetime guarding her heart and a long-held secret. It will take all of her courage to speak the truth and embrace the future God has planned for her.

The year is 1886, and Sophie Robillard returns to Hickory Ridge, Tennessee, after living in Texas for 15 years as the ward of Ada and Wyatt Caldwell. Now that the town's population has exploded, her intention is to reopen the long-defunct newspaper office that so captivated her when she was still an orphan. The rejection she experienced as a child because of her mixed parentage has left deep scars that she hopes can be healed by succeeding in this new venture.

Ethan Heyward was uprooted from his home as a boy following an unspeakable tragedy. Horace Blakely, a millionaire businessman, took Ethan under his wing and eventually put him in charge of the construction and opening of Blue Smoke resort in Hickory Ridge.

They meet when Sophie arrives at Blue Smoke to interview Ethan for her newspaper. As their attraction deepens, each hides a secret that, if revealed, could end their relationship.

My Overall Feeling of the Book:

This book was really, really good.  I loved the town, the characters and the plot.

Even though this was the first book I have read of the series, I got to know Hickory Ridge very quickly.  There was just the right amount of back-story so that I got the gist of the history without getting overwhelmed.  I now want to go back and read the first two books!

Main Characters:

Sophie Caldwell:  Sophie was an orphan and doesn't know anything about her lineage except for the rumors that she has mixed blood.  At the time the book is taking place this is a big deal to certain people and Sophie lets it bother her more than she should.  She is also an independent woman who is determined to start a successful newspaper in her hometown.

Ethan Heyward:  Ethan is an architect in charge of the construction and creation of a huge resort, Blue Smoke.  He feels indebted to his employer and goes to great lengths to keep him happy.  Once the resort is finished, Ethan's dream is to build homes, especially to rebuild his family's plantation in Georgia.

One of My  Favorite Scene(s):

I loved reading about the details of Blue Smoke.  It sounds like an amazing place and I wish it were real!

I also enjoyed learning more about the type-setting process in the newspaper office.

A Brief Excerpt:

Holding her hat in place with one hand, she looked up at the second-floor window of the room where she'd spent a lonely girlhood daydreaming and spinning stories.  She'd expected to feel a sense of fmailiarity upon returning here, a kind of homecoming.  But the moment she stepped off the train, she realized that everything had changed.

The Cover:

This is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen.  In fact, I featured on one of my Cover Crush posts.  (You can see it HERE.)  The gown, the snow, the Church and the red barn all combine to make a most gorgeous cover!

Other Notes:

~This is the last book in the Hickory Ridge series, but I look forward to seeing what Dorothy Love writes next.

~This is an excellent Christmas read!

My Cover Crush this week is:

The House at Tyneford
It's the spring of 1938 and no longer safe to be a Jew in Vienna. Nineteen-year-old Elise Landau is forced to leave her glittering life of parties and champagne to become a parlor maid in England. She arrives at Tyneford, the great house on the bay, where servants polish silver and serve drinks on the lawn. But war is coming, and the world is changing. When the master of Tyneford's young son, Kit, returns home, he and Elise strike up an unlikely friendship that will transform Tyneford-and Elise-forever.

What I love about it:

I love the mystery that this cover hides.  It reminds me a little bit of "A Secret Garden" or even "The Sound of Music".  What adventures are coming for the girl carrying her suitcases into the huge and ancient-looking estate.  I love the possibilities that the cover eludes to.

My Cover Crush this week is:

Love Starts with Elle
Elle's living the dream-but is it her dream or his?

Elle loves life in Beaufort, South Carolina-lazy summer days on the sand bar, coastal bonfires, and dinners with friends sharing a lifetime of memories. And she's found her niche as the owner of a successful art gallery too. Life is good.

Then the dynamic pastor of her small town church sweeps her off her feet. She's never known a man like Jeremiah-one who breathes in confidence and exhales all doubt. When he proposes in the setting sunlight, Elle hands him her heart on a silver platter.

But Jeremiah's just accepted a large pastorate in a different state. If she's serious about their relationship, Elle will take "the call," too, leaving behind the people and place she loves so dearly. Elle's friendship with her new tenant, widower Heath McCord, and his young daughter make things even more complicated.

Is love transferrable across the miles? And can you take it with you when you go

What I love about it:

I love that the feet look like a "real" person's feet.  Not some foot model with dainty, perfect feet.  I also like to roll my jeans up and get so messy when I paint.  The paint splatters on her feet are such a great detail.  My first impression was that she might have drawn the heart with her toe.  Like writing in sand.

My Cover Crush this week is:

Surrender Bay (Nantucket, #1)

Once childhood friends, Samantha and Landon are now separated by distance and secrets. Will Samantha's return to Nantucket bring her the peace she longs for?
Samantha Owens' estranged stepfather has died, leaving her his cottage in Nantucket-a place she fled years ago, never planning to return. As a single mom, Samantha can't afford to pass up a financial windfall like ocean-front property. So she travels home to fix up the house and sell it . . . never suspecting that Landon Reed still lives two doors down.

As their long-dormant romance begins to bud again, Samantha must face a past that separated her from the God of her childhood. And she must tell Landon why she fled the island in the first place-a secret that could tear them apart.
Is Landon's love really as unconditional as he claims? And will Samantha finally realize that the God she found all those years ago never abandoned her?
A heart-tugging tale of shattered trust, growing faith, and love that endures . . . all in a romantic seaside setting.

What I love about it:

I love sitting by the water and wish I could be there on that dock right now.  I love how the water turns into mist.  The colors are somewhat muted which makes me think of memories.  Sigh...

Suddenly, Slade has inherited half of Whisper Creek Ranch, one of the most prosperous in Parable, Montana. That doesn't sit well with his half brother, Hutch, who grew up with all the rights of a Carmody. Including the affections of Joslyn Kirk, homecoming queen, rodeo queen, beauty queen-whom Slade has never forgotten.

But Joslyn is barely holding her head up these days as she works to pay back everyone her crooked stepfather cheated. With a town to protect-plus a rebellious teenage stepdaughter-Slade has his hands full. But someone has to convince Joslyn that she's responsible only for her own actions. Bees in the Butterfly Garden
Raised in an exclusive boarding school among Fifth Avenue's finest, Meg Davenport has all she's ever needed . . . but none of the things she's wanted most, like family, or dreams of a future that includes anything other than finding a suitable match. So when her distant father dies, she seizes the chance to throw etiquette aside and do as she pleases. Especially when she learns that John Davenport wasn't the wealthy businessman she thought, but one of the Gilded Age's most talented thieves.
Poised to lead those loyal to Meg's father, Ian Maguire knows the last thing his mentor would have wanted is for his beloved daughter to follow in his footsteps. Yet Meg is determined, and her connections to one of New York's wealthiest families could help Ian pull off his biggest heist yet. But are they both in over their heads? And in trying to gain everything, will they end up losing it all?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I love about it:
I think this is one of the most beautiful covers I've seen in a long time.  The gold background nicely sets off the colors of the items in the foreground.  Meg's dark, silky hair is absolutely gorgeous and the color of the roses against the white of her gloves is so pretty.  The butterflies floating over the cover remind me of my daughters who are obsessed with butterflies and they bring a smile to my face.
