My Weekly Bookishness ~ 1/1/2021

All things bookish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
What I Read:
I've read NOTHING.
Absolutely NOTHING and that is going to change!
~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

She needs to move on. He wants to let her go. Will they finally be able to go their separate ways even though their hearts seem to have other plans?

Elizabeth Ashburn is madly, deeply, irrefutably in love with her best friend. They know each other better than their own minds. There is only one problem: To him, she is Little Lizzie, and nothing she does seems to replace the idea in his mind. No matter. It is her first Season and she is determined to make a match with a gentleman—any gentleman—who will help her steal her heart back from Oliver Turner and his sea-blue eyes.

Oliver Turner can remember the exact day that Lizzie grew up. And now, he cannot see her as anything besides the beautiful woman stealing his breath—no matter how much he needs to. He won’t marry her. He can’t. He loves her too much for that. Now, he simply needs to help marry her off so that she will officially be out of his reach.

First Lines:

"It was Elizabeth's torn slipper during her first ball of the Season that led her to believe that, perhaps, bad omens were real and, if so, her first Season was not looking bright."

56%/Page 56

Oliver stood outside Kensworth house for the second time that day.  This time, however, was different because he knew Elizabeth stood somewhere on the other side of the door.

What I'll (Probably) Read Next:

Blurb:

He’s lost her twice…he’s not going to lose her again...

NHL Hockey Goalie Wyatt Marshall has everything--fame, money and a thriving career. But he’s hiding the two things that matter most...a career-ending injury, and his broken heart. He’s been in love with Coco Stanley since she walked into his life at age fourteen, a foster child for the Marshall family. She stole his heart years later, when, after a secret tryst, she returned to her home country of Russia. But she won’t let him back into her life—and he can’t figure out why.

She’s harboring a secret that could cost lives...

Coco Stanley is tired of living her life undercover. Or at least, with an assumed name, always pretending to be someone she’s not. And that’s not the only secret she’s harboring. If Wyatt discovers the real reason she left him, it might just destroy him. She’s resigned herself to loving him from afar...

But when he discovers she’s in danger...

Wyatt is horrified when he learns Coco has been shot and left in Russia, her fate unknown. There is nothing—nothing—that will stop him from finding her. So what if he’s not one of his super-heroic brothers, not a Ranger, not a SEAL...Wyatt is a hockey goalie, a special kind of crazy brave. Except, is he brave enough to face the secret Coco is keeping, or will it destroy everything he’s hoped for?

What will it cost them to save her?

What Wyatt and Coco don’t know is that revenge is stalking her and bringing her home just might cost them their long-awaited happy ending.

Book Blogger Hop:

Q.  What are your reading goals for 2021? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer

A.  As I mentioned above, I want to spend more time reading in 2021.  I want to make time each day to read for at least 30-60 minutes.

Last year, I set my Goodreads Challenge Goal at 26 books and completed the goal.  I'm once again going to set my goal at 26 books.  Hopefully, I'll read more but I'll be happy with whatever time I get to read :)

~~~~~~~~~~
Bookishly Yours,
Colletta
  1. Nice list! I love the friends-turned-lovers trope and from the synopsis and excerpts the book looks very detailed and interesting. I'm curious about the Season mentioned...that gives it an otherworldly vibe...
  2. I am also looking to read more this year. I am starting to read my Bible all the way through as well. I am going to GoodReads again and try to figure it out as well. I added Wyatt to my I Want To Read list!
    1. I set my Goodreads Challenge at 26 books again this year. I met that goal last year and it seemed like a good number. Happy New Year!
  3. I'm going to try for one book a week again, but we shall see how that goes. I always find that I start the year off with a bang, but fall behind later in the year and have to scramble to finish my goal.
  4. Hi Colletta,
    It is good to see someone else with slightly lower target expectations for their Goodreads Challenge. I really wish I could aspire to the 100 books+ category, but it just isn't ever going to happen. Last year I managed to smash my 22 goal target, but that was because of lockdown restrictions. I am working on the basis that my reading will drop right off. if anything like a 'new normal' can be established this year. I have therefore set my target at 25, as I know that is realistic for me.
    I like the sound of 'To Catch A Suitor' and I do have a couple of new arrivals this week, which I shall share as part of the Mailbox Monday meme.
    I hope that 2021 is a much kinder year for us all! Stay Safe!
    1. I know to put the reading pressure on myself after years of reading challenges. Pressure makes me lose my reading mojo :)
  5. Romance is always good to start a year with. There's something about that "happily ever after" that gives us hope.
    Enjoy and have a good 2021!
  8. I've decided to make very limited reading goals for the year that way I am open to serendipity. Though I will read all my book club books and will read all the Cybils books I am judging. That should get me started. Happy New Year. My Friday quotes are from Princess Bride
  9. Happy New Year!!! 🎉🎉🎉
    Over on my blog, I'm sharing the first line from The Thief of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep:
    https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2021/01/01/first-line-friday-168/. It's a great story! Currently, I'm reading The Twelve Holidates by Emma St. Clair, so I'll share from there:
    "I have to wonder if the blogger who suggested waiting inside a giant stocking for your significant other actually tried it first."
    Hope you have a wonderful weekend full of fun reading time! 🙂❤📚
    Alas, she was not a tobacco bride but she had been given charge of them.
  12. I love your blog! Good luck with your reading goals for the year. I haven't set a number to mine yet, but it won't be in the triple digits. I CAN do that, but sometimes it feels like I have to focus too much on quick reads to accomplish that kind of goal.
  14. Happy new year ! I don't set goals for the number of books I read, it puts too much pressure on me, but I think 26 is doable ? Have fun with your books, it's the best part :)
  15. Funny! Yes, those times when we get nothing read can be frustrating. But I love it that you are determined to push ahead. Good luck with your goal.
    I enjoy seeing that book called Wyatt. It makes me think of my little grandson, Wyatt, who is 1 1/2, and whose parents are cowboys. Perhaps Wyatt will look like that one of these days! In any case, enjoy the book.
  17. I too have barely read. The only books I finished were audiobooks, because I took a long road trip over the holidays. I like your goal of making time to read everyday. I think that will definitely help your reading life. Here's what I'm reading (my WWW) if interested: https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2021/01/06/www-wednesdays-january-6-2021/
