Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 9/9/2024

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello and HAPPY Monday.
The weather outside is:
The weather has been glorious!  I walk outside and all I can think is how beautiful it is.  It looks like the week ahead has some higher temperatures during the day which is typical of September.  I love September :)
On today's to-do list:
Nothing too out of the normal for a Monday.  I do want to get the floors done as I skipped over them this weekend.  I also need to remember to call my PCP about a medication refill.
Happening this week:
I'm going to be switching jobs.  I should be hearing this week when my start date is for my new job.  This job requires no weekends and no holidays.  It is part-time and will be only 3 days a week.  It is a clerical position in a medical office so I'm hoping it goes well :)  Many thanks to those who have been praying for my work situation.  I really hated working when the rest of the family was off but I especially hated working Sunday mornings and missing Church.
Other than that I don't have anything major going on this week.  Just the regular daily activities.
Currently reading:
I signed up for another JustRead Publicity book review Blog Tour to read Inferno by Lisa Phillips.  My book review is due October 2nd but I like to get review books read first.  My reading goal is to read at least 1 book a week.  This past week I finished 2!  You can read My Weekly Bookishness post HERE.
I've discovered Reading Sprints on youtube and have participated in 2 of them so far.  Basically, it is a LIVE where there is discussion and chit-chatting and then you have a reading sprint of a certain amount of time.  After that time is over, there is more discussion.  Everyone is reading whatever they want but reading together.  I'm not sure if I've described that very well, but I really enjoyed myself and got a lot of reading done.
Paperback and Ponytails hosted the first one I "attended".  I think she hosts sprints on Friday evenings.  I've just discovered her channel this week, but really enjoy her videos.
Listening to:
I love Lauren Daigle and Ellie Holcomb and was really excited when I heard "Be Okay" is both of them singing together!  I hope you enjoy!
Watching:
It is currently Sunday at 3:30pm when I'm writing this post.  Therefore the Steelers VS Falcons game is on.  The score is 15-10 with the Steelers on the top.  There is still some time left in the game so we'll see what happens.
Last evening, the hubby and I sat together and watched a movie on Prime.  I'm pretty sure the name was "The Hero Dog" about an Alaskan Malamute named Chinook.  It was family friendly and pretty good.
In the Kitchen:
Last Monday was Labor Day, so Kaylee stopped by for a visit.  Nate had requested Cheesy Bacon Potato Soup for Dinner so we put Kaylee to work peeling potatoes :)  It was good to spend some quality time with her.
Instead of making Apple Pie, Mom and I decided to make Apple Cobbler.  It was quicker than making crust and rolling it out and we also were running low on flour and I didn't want to have to make a trip to the store on an "at-home" day.
One other night for dinner, I made homemade Pizza with homemade crust.  If anyone would like the recipe for the crust, let me know and I'll post it.
For dessert on Friday, I made Peanut Butter Fudge.  This recipe makes the absolute best fudge I've ever had!  Again, if you'd like the recipe let me know.
The last item from the Kitchen that I'm sharing today are rolls :)  They are NOT homemade in the fact that they were frozen dough balls.  I did have to sit them out to thaw, raise and then bake :)  No recipe there, although I've often been tempted to learn how to make bread/rolls, etc.  How about you?  Do you make bread or take the easy way out like I do?
In the Craft Basket:
I have 9/35 blocks finished for the Japanese Fields Afghan.  The second picture shows you that I have all the ends to weave in yet.  I try to weave the ends every few blocks but I lost my weaving needle!  I did remember to pick up another pack of yarn needles when I went shopping Saturday so now I want to weave the current loose ends in before starting any more blocks.
Picture(s) from the Camera
I found Flynn sleeping on the bed all curled up.  Too cute!
Clover was taking advantage of the sunlight for her nap :)
The roses are coming back beautifully.
Our house :)
The hubby and I are starting to take walks (hopefully daily).  This is the road in front of our house.  There is just something about roads and paths that I think are really pretty.
Check out #21.  That is "little" Dex in his first Junior High Football Game.  He is one of the youngest on the team but got to play the entire time.  He even scored a touchdown!  Go, DEX!!!!
Prayer Requests
~Please pray for safety and traveling mercies for Kaylee as she travels to Orlando, FL for a work trip next week.  I'm so nervous about it.  She has to drive the 2 hour drive to Pittsburgh to catch her flight to Orlando, fly to Orlando and then drive from the Orlando airport to her hotel.  Did I mention that I'm nervous?!?  She might be 23 years old and out on her own, but she's still my baby and I'll be glad when she gets home safely!
~Laken is now taking 4 college courses.  Please pray that she does well with them and that she stays healthy.  (continued)
~As always, prayers for the safety and well-being of all those going back to school.  I hated hearing about the school shooting that occurred in GA last week.  Please pray for all those who were impacted.  (continued)
~Our Country, our Leaders and the Election coming in November.  (continued)
Bible Verse
Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. "  Psalm 143:10 NIV
Have a great week!
Tea Time ~ 5/12/2022
Grab a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or your favorite drink
while I share a few things about my life lately...
~The kittens, Flynn and Clover, had their final booster shot at the vet.  They have come so far since their first appointment!  They were only 4.5 weeks old the first time we took them for their check-up and sat so scared on the exam table.  This time they were exploring the whole room!  They are very mischievous and can be quite wild at times.  Then sometimes they are very sweet and loving.  Such characters!
Clover as a baby.
~I had a wonderful Mother's Day!  Actually, the whole weekend was great :)  Saturday we went to the Barnes & Noble because Laken said she would buy me a book with her own money!  This was major!  But, I just couldn't see spending $16.99 of her limited money on a paperback book.  I told I'd take a rain check :)  Kaylee came over and brought my Mother's Day gifts from both the girls.  I love my new cup and the flowers are so pretty and holding up rather well.
~I gave the hubby a haircut!  This in and of itself isn't major but wait until you see the before, during and after pictures!  Such a difference.  And great for the nice weather we're starting to get.  For the record, he was NOT fond of me posting these pictures but he's a good sport and let me anyway :)
BEFORE
DURING
AFTER
~Speaking of the weather, it has been a gorgeous couple of days.  I enjoyed sitting outside on the deck as much as possible and hanging clothes on the clothesline.  It is supposed to be warm this weekend but rain so I'm enjoying it while I can.
~We have a nosy chicken!  No matter where we go, she'll be there, sticking her nose into whatever is going on.  The hubby was taking pictures and she was fascinated.  I love this picture he got.  It cracks me up :)
~I wrote a separate post about the Summer Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study but I'm going to post about it here as well.  The study starts May 31st and is "Fighting Words" by Ellie Holcomb.  I hope you'll be able to join in!  Isn't the book beautiful???
Tea Time ~ 4/21/2022
~I'm Back!  Just about a month ago, my desktop computer blew up on me.  It wouldn't even power on.  I took a bit of a blogging break to decide what to do.  I missed blogging but it was too hard to create a post on my phone or Kindle.  Finally, I decided to hijack my daughter's Chromebook to blog when she's not using it for her cyber schooling which means early morning or later in the night.  I've been back for a little less than a week so lots to catch-up on!
~I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend and celebrated the death, burial and resurrection of our LORD.  Laken was technically on Spring Break Thursday though Tuesday but had to do a lot of catch-up work all but Sunday.  All her classes have to be completed by May 20th so we're getting down to the wire!  She did take breaks to do the important stuff like coloring eggs :)
~The kittens are growing like weeds!  They have one more vet appointment for their last booster shot and then I have to make the appointments for spaying and neutering.  Flynn and Clover "think" that Kona loves them and they take every opportunity to snuggle with her that they can.  Kona is very patient with them even though she sometimes just gets up and moves to another room!
~The chicks have their feathers and are ready to be outside.  This is all a learning process for us so any tips on raising chickens AND/OR ducks would be greatly appreciated.  The coop is all ready except for the fenced in yard.  Still some work to do on that, but the girls are loving all their room!
~I've started reading The Definitive Edition of The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.  It is the May 2022 reading selection for the Kindred Readers Book Club.  If you're interested in reading along, we'd love to have you join us!  I'm really enjoying the book.  I remember reading a version of the book in 7th Grade Reading Class but there is so much that I didn't pick up on or have forgotten.  It is a completely different experience reading Anne Frank as an adult!
I hope you enjoyed catching up!  I'll be back next Thursday with another Tea Time but I hope you'll check out some of my other posts :)
~It is my BIRTHDAY!!!!  Happy 44th Birthday to me :)
~I am so glad that it is officially SPRING!  I had been having some serious spring/cabin fever and was really glad to be able to get out and go for a few walks this past week.  Yesterday it rained and it is supposed to rain all day today but I won't let it get to me :)  The sun will come back out and it will get warm again :)
~I got this super cute picture of the hubby and Kona resting.  It is hilarious how she will rest her head on his shoulder and put her paw across his stomach, just like a person snuggling.  In this picture you can see Kona's poor nose.  She must have gotten stung on the snout by a bee and we have had an awful time keeping her from itching it.  This picture was a few days ago and it IS starting to heal.  For a while, we thought we might have to get her a Cone of Shame.
~About 40 people from our Church went bowling Saturday afternoon.  We had such a good time hanging out together.  Laken and Damon are cousins but also the best of buds.  This is their "silly" picture :)
~Kona and Lilah got their new bandanas today.  Out with the St. Patty's bandanas and in with the bunny bandanas.  You can't really see the pattern on the fabric very well, but it is so cute!  Kona loves wearing bandanas and gets upset when you take it off of her.  Lilah couldn't care less.
~Flynn and Clover had their vet checks Tuesday.  They've each gained 1 lb which is great as they were so very tiny!  The vet, Dr. Amber, said they are looking good.  They got their first vaccines and go back in 3 weeks for their booster.  Both kittens, but especially Clover, love to lay on the dog bed with both Kona and Lilah.  They are getting more personality and have these spurts of energy where they rip and tear through the house chasing each other!  So fun to watch them play and grow :)
~This week we added to our family...again!  12 chicks!!!!  The hubby, Kaylee, Laken and I went to Tractor Supply and bought our very first chickens!!  I think we might be crazy!  Kaylee and Laken have wanted chicks FOREVER but the time was never right.  I don't really know why the time was right this time, but it is.  The girls are SO excited!  Laken called dibs to holding the chick box on the ride home.  They are so cute and growing like weeds.  I would say they've doubled in size since we got them a week ago.  Now the hubby needs to get to building the chicken coop!
Tea Time ~ 3/17/2022
~Kaylee and Shawn sent me a picture of their new dog crate for Dahlia.  Shawn, who is not a small man, was in the crate with the miniature horse masquerading as a Great Dane!  When we went down to visit, the hubby couldn't help himself.  He had to get in the crate, too!  Then Laken couldn't resist taking a turn.  At least this XXL crate should be big enough for Dahly to grow into :)
~Saturday, we were supposed to go to my nephew's 16th birthday party an hour's drive away.  Instead, we got a snowstorm :(  Thankfully, my SIL postponed Andrew's party until this Sunday so we'll still be able to attend.  The snow was all melted by Sunday afternoon.  Crazy weather!
~I'm so excited to have more light in the evenings!  I love Springing forward and I heard that there is talk of making Daylight Savings Time a permanent thing next year!  I'm not sure how good that would be for mornings but I definitely enjoy the evenings :)
~Laken had her brain MRI on Monday.  It was ordered by her neurologist due to migraines.  He wanted to make sure there wasn't anything nefarious going on.  Thank the Good LORD, her brain is "unremarkable".  That's a good thing :)
~I went to www.proverbs31.org to look for a Bible Study and happened across a new Online Bible Study that will be starting April 1, 2022.  It is called "I'll Start Again Monday".  I signed up for the class and ordered my book which should be arriving Friday.  There's still time to join in if you'd like!  Let me know if you do!
~The kittens like to "help" Laken with her school work.  Flynn is the sleeper and not much help other than being there for moral support.  Clover, on the other hand, loves to help by stepping all over the keyboard.  She likes to be in-the-know.
