Should the "Family" Clean the "Family Room"?

I'm a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom for those who don't know) so I usually do the cleaning.

I have, however, made a new rule:

The "FAMILY" will clean the "FAMILY ROOM"

Should I have to spend 1.5 hours cleaning up toys, dishes, shoes, toys, socks, shoes, toys, chip bags..did I mention toys?

Or should all four of us take 20 minutes working together to clean the entire room? Isn't that considered quality time as a family unit?

So, in our house: the "Family" will clean the "Family Room". End of story.

(commence endless whining and procrastination)

  2. I have 5 baskets. Everyone takes their baskets and fills it with their stuff and we all straighten pillow, rugs and throw away trash. Everyone takes their basket puts the stuff away then brings the baskets back till next time.

  3. In my house I have broken each room down into chores on a list. Each kids has to choose a certain number of chores. (I have some easy chores which are reserved for the youngest) They work on their chores and if they finish quickly then they get more time to do what they want. If they work slowly they are cleaning after everyone else is done.
