High Five for Friday ~ 6/14/13

Five things that made me smile this week :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.  The biggest event in our house this week was my oldest daughter's birthday.  She turned 12 yesterday!  Next year I will have a teenager!  Unbelievable.  We went out for lunch and then I made her requested birthday dinner of Stuffed Shells.  She always picks ice-cream cake for her birthday cake.  We found an Oreo ice-cream cake and it was delicious.  Happy Birthday, Baby Girl!

2.  The girls and I participated in Hoosier Homemade's Summer Scavenger Hunt.  You can see more on that HERE :)

3.  Last night I started reading a book and got half-way through before I went to bed :)  This is a big deal because I have been in such a reading slump lately.  I haven't even picked up a book in a few weeks because nothing was keeping my attention.  This anthology has been great so far :)

4.  We've been swimming, swimming, swimming :)  Even though the pool isn't very warm yet, that doesn't stop us.  Especially the girls!  I think they've been swimming just about every day.

5.  Saturday evening we had a bunch of people over from Church for a cook-out.  We had so much fun talking and laughing together.  And of course, the kids had a blast in the pool  :)

Friday Fragments ~ 5/10/13

Five things that made me smile this week :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.  I went to the hair salon and got my hair done!  This is one of my favorite things to do :)

2.  Hanging clothes out on the line for the first time in my married life.  I forgot how much I enjoy being outside doing this :)

3.  Watching my 6 year old play ball in the yard  :)

4.  Switching to a new TV system that actually works!  No more blacking out AND we can record 5 shows at a time :)

5.  Signing the girls up for Summer Camp!  We've decided that the girls will NOT be allowed to sleep and sit around all day this summer :)

1.  I'm down another pound for a total of 7!

2.  I mowed the grass Tuesday night!  I love it!

3.  I've been sitting outside on my swing to read!  Gorgeous weather :)

4.  Kaylee's softball team won not only 1 game this week, but 2 games!

5.  Last night was the Spring concert!  I love watching my mom and my daughter perform together in the community chorus :)

Friday Fragments ~ 4/19/13

Five things that made me smile this week :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.  The flowers are popping out everywhere.  Each day I see more and more.  Trees are blossoming and getting green.  What a gorgeous world God created!

2.  Both girls got back to school this week.  They both ended up on antibiotics but are feeling much better which makes this mama feel much better too!

3.  I started crocheting an afghan just because I wanted to.  For me!

4.  The scale finally is starting to go down instead of up!  Does anybody else have the problem where they gain before they start losing?  That would be me.  But I'm happy with this morning's weigh-in!

5.  Tonight is Date Night!!  We try to schedule one every month.  The girls will be staying over with their Pap and Mamaw and we will get the house to ourselves!  Greatly needed alone time planned :)

5 Highlights from the past week:

1. The girls and I made their new routine charts for the school year.  I let them pick out the colors for the lettering and then they spent a WHOLE afternoon decorating them!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2.  We  have been practicing for school next week.  I've been "trying" to wake them up early and we pretend that it is a school day.  They do their Morning Routine and we see how quickly they can get everything finished.  We even packed in the van and drove up around the school for an authentic "school morning" feel.

3. Wednesday we went for the second round of shoe shopping.  It was almost as bad as the first round.  The girls just could NOT decide which shoes to get.  We basically made the rounds through the same stores as before and FINALLY they picked out their shoes!  I was so relieved....

4. After shoe shopping, we got our hair trimmed.  Kaylee is growing out an inverted bob and it needed shaped, majorly.  I got my eyebrows done, a Redkin Shot to condition my hair.  I'm also letting my hair grow so all I got cut were my dead-ends and some long side-swept bangs.  It was so nice to sit in "the chair".  I was overdue.

5. Last night was the Elementary Open House.  We got to go see Laken's classroom, her cubby for her coat and book bag and her seat.  She decorated a name card that she will wear around her neck to school everyday next week.  We didn't really need to "meet" her teacher, because her brother was one of Doug's best friends in school and she was only 2 years older than me and graduated with my brother.  Just one of the benefits of living in a small town :)

High Five Fragments and Favorites

  

(I didn't get to post my highlights yesterday.  I was in an anesthesia induced fog.  But this is one feature I make sure to do every week.  It helps me focus on the good :)

5 Highlights from the past week:

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. I've reached 600 followers!  Can you believe it?!?  It took me 3 years to reach the 300 mark and 3 months to gain another 300 to make the 600 mark!  Too, too exciting!

2.  This one may be TMI for some but it was very good news for me.  I had an internal ultrasound Monday and it showed NOTHING!!!!   No fibroids, no cysts, everything looked normal.  (TMI, other than my uterine lining being thickened.  Hence the anesthesia yesterday for a D&C that they weren't able to do.  Boooo!)

3. I finished making the new curtains for the Kitchen, Dining Room and Sewing Room!  The Family Room is clean and painted.  The Hall bathroom is a new pretty pink with new accents, and Laken's Room is clean (for now).  A pretty heavy dent has been made in the "Clean and Purge" campaign.

4. Kaylee's devotional book finally came and she has been carrying it everywhere around the house.  She has been doing lessons and the book is filled with drawings that she loves.

5. I saved the "funniest" for last.  For family movie night, we got "Jack and Jill" from the Redbox.  It was HILARIOUS!!!!!  Adam Sandler has come a long way.  Please take the time to watch this trailer if you haven't seen the movie yet :)

High Five Friday Fragments and Favorites ~ 8/10/12

  

5 Highlights from the past week:

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.  I took the girls along with the Church Youth Group to Laurel Hill State Park on Saturday.  They played, fished, swam and went for a hike.  The parents, who happen to be my great and awesome friends, sat in the shade at the picnic tables and yakked the whole time.  Great company, great weather, great kids!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2.  The Kitchen/Dining Room are now "Quiet Providence Peach"!  The Sewing Room is now "Vacation Seaside Blue"!  The Family Room will soon be Muted Flowering Currant!  I'm bringing some color into my life :)

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

3. Not only is the Sewing/Craft/Computer Room a new beeeeeautiful color, IT IS ORGANIZED!  Yay!!!!!  I can actually get to my sewing table.  I set up a special "Mailing Area".  My yarn in tucked neating into a very large cabinet and the closet neatly holds my samples and pre-made items.  It is lovely.  Hope I can keep it this way :)

4.  Last night was the first pre-season football game for my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.  They played the Philadelphia Eagles.  It was a battle of the PA teams.  It was exciting even though it was pre-season and the Steelers LOST by ONE stinkin' point!  Argh!  lol

5. I saved the most touching and heart-warming item for last.  One of my favorite moments this week was seeing Kaylee sitting at the table with her Bible and worksheets from Church Camp.  She told Laken that she needed quiet because she was doing her devotions.  I was and still am so proud.  That's my girl!

5 Highlights from the past week:

1.  I reached over 500 followers on this little blog!  I was so excited watching as I gained each new follower.  Each and every one is so appreicated :)  I get excited with each and every one!

2.  I picked out and bought paint and fabric for curtains!  My mom and I are going to start with the Kitchen/Dining Rooms on Monday.  So much work but I really look forward to the results.

3.  We had Bible School last weekend.  The kids were so good!  On Sunday night we had a programs and cookout.  The kids sang the songs they had learned and recited the memory verses for their parents.  We had a really good turnout and a fun time was had by all!

4.  I finally, finally, finally got our Bedroom cleaned.  With Doug working 3rd shift and sleeping during the day it is hard for me to get in there to really clean.

5. The girls and I are officially "In Training".  That means early to bed and early to rise in preparation for the new school year.  So far it is going pretty well.  I'm really enjoying getting back to doing bedtime devotions with the girls before tucking them in.

5 Highlights from the past week:

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.  The Olympics are coming!  I love watching Beach Volleyball, Gymnastics and Swimming!  Go USA!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2.  I sat down with a new notebook and made a "Organize and Purge the House" plan.  I actually can't wait to get started.  I can't stand the clutter anymore.  And I get to pick new paint colors!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

3.  I had a dentist appointment on Wednesday!  I know that doesn't sound like fun but I was overdue and.....  not a single cavity!!!  I got an A+ ;)

4.  We put the Redbox to use again this week and watched "We  Bought a Zoo" (really sweet movie) and "War Horse"  (AMAZING movie).  It has been really nice to get back into having a family movie night.

5. Saturday night, we (some of my extended family) all met at Aunt Donna's house to do a Family Dinner.  We had Chili Dogs and Homemade French Fries!  We played with Baby Dex and caught up on all the family gossip happenings.  Then we watched "One for the Money".  It was great to spend quality time with the ones I love.

5 Highlights from the past week:

1.  The absolute best thing that happened this week is that my oldest daughter, Kaylee, made the decision to be baptized!  Her daddy did the honors.  Such a joyous occasion!

2.  Last Saturday my BFF, Erica, and I went out for dinner and a movie to celebrate her 34th birthday!  It had been a while since we had gone out together.  We had a great time!

3.  I had a much needed Grammy/Pappy day.  The girls went for groceries with the grandparents which gave me some quiet time.  ahhh.....

4.  We now have a Redbox in our little town!  It is so exciting to be able to rent new movies and only have to go a little over a block to return them!  So far we've rented the new "Three Musketeers" and "The Vow".

5 Highlights from the past week:

1.  I hit 100,000 views and 400+ followers on my blog!  This might seem like a drop in the bucket to some but for me it is exciting!

2.  I got a bike!  I finally took the plunge and picked out a bike.  It is a Schwinn Cruiser.  Old style :)  I put a basket on the back and have been riding it almost every day.  I'll add pictures soon.

3.  Laken was so good for her first dentist appt.  I was worried that she might freak out, but she hopped right up in the chair and giggled as the hygenist chatted with her.  She was a trooper!

4.  Date night last weekend!  The girls stayed with Mom and Dad.  Doug and I decided to go out to eat, come home and get in the pool, and then we watched a movie while snuggling on the couch.  Sigh....  I love date nights...

5. The heat wave seems to have passed.  It is still hot but not near as hot as it had been and there's been a nice breeze also ;)

5 Highlights from the past week:

1.  Swimming!!!  The pool has been so warm the past few days due to the heatwave here in PA.  I actually just got out and it was wonderful!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2.  Bike Riding!   I hadn't ridden a bike in a few years until my Mom bought one at a yard sale a few days ago.  I took it for a spin around the block.  It made me want a new bike even more!!

3.  Picnic!  On the 4th of July we had steak, pork chops and chicken on the grill.  We also had homemade mac-n-cheese, watermelon, corn on the cob and party cake!

4.  Fireworks!  On Sunday night, some good friends invited us to their house to watch the fireworks that a nearby Church puts off.  There were a bunch of us hanging out and chatting while the kids swam.  When it got dark, we oohed and ahhed at the pretty lights ;)

5.  Review Books!  This week I started accepting requects to review books.  I contacted a few different companies and tour organizers and have some review books on their way to me now.  I'm excited to add this aspect to my blog :)

6.  I lost 2 pounds!  That in itself is enough to make me happy!

5 Highlights from the past week:

1.  We had a great week at Preaching in the Mountains Family Church Camp!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2.  We FINALLY got our pool open and have the solar cover on it to soak in all this sweltering heat!  100 degrees today!  hot, hot, hot....
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

3.  I reached my goal of reading 4 books during the "Wicked Wildfire Read-A-Thon".

4.  We're starting to  look into renting a cabin in the Smokey Mountains for an extended Family Vacation next year!

5.    We went to see Brave on opening night!
