Make It Monday ~ DIY Beach Towel Tote ~ 5/26/14

Are you ready to hit the beach this Memorial Day?  I know I am.  In fact, I might be there right now!

I'll be taking along my new Beach Towel Tote to lug all our beach equipment.

Forgive me, but I don't remember where I saw this idea.  If anyone knows, please message me so I can give credit where credit is due.

Items needed:

1 Towel (Wal-mart)
2 yards Mesh Strap (Joann's)
Sewing Machine
Pins
Tape Measure

First, cut the mesh into 1 yard pieces.

Next, measure in 5" from the side of the towel and 2" down from the top.  Pin the strap in place.  Do this for all four corners/ends.

Use your sewing machine to sew the mesh securely to the towel.  I sewed a box and then made an "X" for good measure.  Do this for all 4 corners

Turn the towel inside out and pin up the sides.  Sew up each side about 2 inches from the edge.  You can go back over it for a second pass if you would like.

Turn the towel/bag right side out and there you go!

A super huge, beach towel tote that can be thrown right in the washing machine along with the dirty, wet towels.  (Special thanks to my daughter for modeling it even though she didn't really want to :)

I can't wait to give it a try!

Make It Monday ~ Teacher Gift Jar ~ 5/19/14

I don't know about you, but I am eagerly anticipating the end of the school year.  I'm burnt out on fighting the kids to get up in the morning and out the door.  I also won't be missing the homework each evening.

Each year, I like to give my daughter's teacher a homemade gift to show appreciation.  This year I saw these cute Teacher Gift Jars over at www.mommyskitchen.net

What you'll need:

1 Glass jar
1 Large bag of M&M's
1-2 pieces of scrapbook paper
twine, ribbon or yarn
fancy scissors
Print off from Mommy's Kitchen

Pour the M&M's in to the jar.  Refrain from eating them yourself.

Trace around the canning lid onto pretty paper.

Cut it out and put the jar lid, paper and ring on to the jar.

Use the fancy scissors to cut around the poem.

Paste the poem onto pretty paper.

Punch two holes side-by-side in the top corner of the poem.

Wrap twine/ribbon/yarn around the jar and then through the poem.  Tie it in a bow.

Laken has her main teacher and a teacher's assistant, so I made 2.

Do you give a end of the year gifts to your children's teacher?

Misc. Monday ~ DIY Wreath ~ 4/12/14

Last weekend my Mom and I made a wreath for my front door.  It was a basic grape-vine wreath that my Dad made me and some flowers.

I liked it.  For about a week.

It was just missing something.  I thought, maybe some tealish colored flowers for some pop.  So, I went on the hunt.

Instead of buying more flowers to add to it, I decided to try my hand at using the mesh ribbon.  I found the perfect color of it for $2.77 for a 10 yard roll.  Perfect.

I called my Mom to come help me.  (It was a nice mother/daughter project).  We stripped the wreath back down to the bare bones.  BTW, my Dad made this from wild grape-vines that grow behind their house.

We added the mesh by tying it onto the wreath.  Then we rearranged the flowers back onto it.

Much better!  Not perfect but I love it!
