First Lines Friday, 56 and BBH ~ 6/19/20

https://hoardingbooksblog.wordpress.com/

Today's "First Lines" and "56" are from:

First Lines

Lord Quintin Lockhart pulled his hat further down atop his head and squinted out across the field.  Dozens of white specks covered the grey land.  For a moment, he imagined them other-worldly spirits, come to haunt the winter field and strike fear into the most stalwart of hearts.

With a firm course of action in mind, Quintin rolled to the side and sat up.  His feet brushed against the soft rug with extended out from under his bed.  Cotton hold was where he belonged.  It was time he returned.

 Q.  Do you visit indie and/or used bookstores? Also, have you ever worked in any? (submitted by Kristin @ Lukten av Trykksverte)

 A.  I would love to say that I only shop indie or used bookstores but there aren't any in my area (that I know of).  I live in a very rural area and other than the Dollar General, which is 10 minutes away, it takes 30-45 minutes to get to any store.  Of any type.  I mostly shop online these days.

  1. Happy Friday!

That's a lovely first line, and has me intrigued as to what's going to happen next.

On my blog today, I'm sharing the first line from Set the Stars Alight by Amanda Dykes:

    London, England
    May 1987:

"The smell of cinders permanently etched the abandoned Bessette Match Factory into the minds of all who passed."

Hope you have a lovely weekend :)

"Rissi followed Noah into the station, glad to be back. It’d already been a long day."
Hope you have a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚❤๐Ÿ“š

  5. Happy Friday! I'm reading from an old book, and the kindle edition is free on Amazon. I have probably read it 10 times! My first line is from "Uncle Max" by Rosa Nouchette Carey:

"It appears to me, looking back over a past experience, that certain days in one's life stand out prominently as landmarks, when we arrive at some finger-post pointing out the road that we should follow."

There was no such thing as a typical day at the White House, but Caroline Delacroix’s morning took a particularly difficult turn the moment she walked into her crowded office,

    Happy Reading!

Over on my blog I shared one of the lines from Key to Everything by Valerie Frasier Luesse
"Sometime during the night, it had begun to rain, a steady downpour pelting the tin roof of Aunt Gert's bungalow and lightly misting Peyton's face."

  11. That's the great thing about living in England - we're small. ;-) I love browsing the bookshelves of charity shops and secondhand book shops when I visit a village, town or city. Thankfully online shopping has made it easier to buy from indies so I don't have to wait. ;-)

I hope you have a lovely weekend, Colletta. x
