Teaser Tuesday ~ The Pelican Bride ~ 2/27/18

http://thepurplebooker.com

My teaser for this week is from:

 Massacre Island
Mobile Bay, 1704

The fifty-six-gun frigate "Pelican" lunged as Genevieve Gaillain dropped six feet over its side before the canvas sling jerked her to a stop.  Clutching the sodden rope above her head, she looked up at the dark-skinned mariners straining to keep her from plummeting into what they charmingly called "the drink".  The sling swung with the motion of the ship, setting the sky tilting overhead in rhythm with the ocean's slap-slosh against the hull.

I started reading The Pelican Bride by Beth White.  It is set in Louisiana in the early 1700's.  It has been a really long time since I've read a book in this time period.  I really can't even remember what it would have been.  So far, it is very interesting.

Side note, my puppy Kona decided to get the book off my bedside table and chew it.  Luckily, she only got the bottom corner and it is still able to be read.

Book Review ~ Seven Brides for Seven Texans by Various Authors ~ 2/22/18

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
29633324
Blurb:
Meet the seven Hart brothers of the 7-Heart ranch in central Texas. Each man is content in his independent life, without the responsibilities of a wife and children—until their father decides 1874 will be the year his grown sons finally marry, or they will be cut from his will. How will each man who values his freedom respond to the ultimatum? Can love develop on a timeline, or will it be sacrificed for the sake of an inheritance?
My Thoughts:
It has been a while since I've posted a Book Review.  I thought I would try a book that was given to me and recommended by a friend.
I loved the premise of the seven brothers needing to get married in order to inherit their land.  I couldn't wait to get started into their stories.
All the brother had unique names as they were all named after historical Texans.  This made for interesting reading.  Some examples were Chisholm, Travis, and Bowie.
The brothers were all so different!
I couldn't wait to read Bowie's story, and don't you know they made me wait until the last story!
This was such a fun read!
Hodgepodge ~ 2/21/18
http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/
Joyce's Hodgepodgey Questions:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Where do you go when you need some inspiration?
Why, to Blogland, of course!

 2. What's under your bed?
We have a handmade Captain's Bed, so there are drawers of "stuff" under our bed.

 3. Thursday, February 22nd is National Chili Day, National Margarita Day, and National Cook a Sweet Potato Day. Of the three which would you most like to celebrate? Is that likely?
Honestly, none of the above!  lol  I guess the only one I kinda like would be Sweet Potatoes.

 4. What are you 'snowed under' with right now?
Boxes.  Boxes.  Boxes.  Right now the Family Room is filled with boxes of the girls old keepsakes.  They really need to go through them and clear out some "stuff".

 5. Tell us three to five things that make you feel balanced?
~Prayer
~Exercise
~Diet Dr. Pepper
~Family Time
~Time alone with the Hubby

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

~Laken is feeling better, finally.  That 104* temperature really had me worried.  I'm still keeping her home from school today to let her recuperate one more day.

~Now Kaylee is starting to get a temperature.  It was 99.9* a bit ago.  Hopefully, she won't come down with the full-blown flu...

Teaser Tuesday ~ Thin Ice ~ 2/20/18

My teaser for this week is from:

 What was that odd shimmer in the night sky?

Christy Reed crested the hill on the undulating rural road and peered at the eerie dome of light above the trees in the distance.  On a chilly, clear November evening the heavens should be pitch black save for the starts strewn across the inky firmament, not tainted by unnatural illumination.

I'm not going to make a whole bunch of excuses, so I'm just basically going to report that I had a loss of 0.2 lbs this week.

I did manage to start exercising on Friday and hope to get into a routine.  My Mom actually exercised with me, so maybe if we can do it together I'll be more consistent.  Getting started is the hardest thing, but staying motivated is even harder!

How was your week?

Weigh-in:    -0.2   Total:  -21.4 lbs.

~The hubby and I had our Valentine's Date on Saturday evening!  We actually went to see a movie all by ourselves.  We saw "Forever My Girl".  It was really sweet :)

~I colored my hair!  The color is called Raspberry Truffle :)

Journal Entry ~ 2/14/18

Happy Valentine's Day!

It has been a busy, busy day.

~I had my yearly bloodwork and mammogram done this morning.  Apparently, I don't drink enough water and my veins weren't "well hydrated".  It took a while to get all the tubes of blood they needed to check whatever it is they are checking.  The mammo was fairly painless.  At least as painless as it can be.  I didn't stick around to get the results.  They'll be mailed to my house.  I pray all is well!

~I stopped by the mall to get my eyebrows done and decided to run into Wal-Mart and get some hair-coloring.  All the coloring that I had from before had grown out and too many grays to pull out were popping up.  The color I picked out isn't extremely different from my natural color.  It just has a bit of red tinting amidst the brown.  It is called Raspberry Truffle and I quite like it.  Now if this horrible hair cut would just grow out a bit faster..

~When I picked the girls up at school, Kaylee informed me that her ear was hurting.  I decided to take her to Med Express and get it checked out.  She does, indeed, have an ear infection.  They prescribed an antibiotic for the infection.  We got to the pharmacy and they had a 30 minute wait.  Ollie's is just down the road, so we decided to head there to kill some time.  I didn't see any books that jumped out at me and it is just as well, because I have a ton of books and haven't even been reading all that much lately.

~Doug went against our agreement and got me a Valentine's Day Card!  Unfortunately, I didn't know he was going to go against our agreement and I didn't get him one!  He also got me some Reese Hearts.  He knows Reese's are my favorite.  He has such a big heart.  Love him!

~The only things I didn't get to on my to-do list today are reading and crocheting.  Those two are always pushed to the back burner as they aren't "necessary".  The new Moogly 2018 CAL block #3 comes out tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll get some time either Friday or Saturday to sit down and crochet.

For now,

Colletta

Hodgepodge ~ 2/14/18

Joyce's Hodgepodgey Questions:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. When's the last time you had a heart to heart talk with someone? A change of heart? Experienced figurative 'heart failure?'
~Doug and I had a heart to heart talk a few days ago about money.  Blah!
~I had a change of heart about working outside the home at the College.  I decided I didn't want to do it anymore, so I quit!
~I experienced figurative "heart failure" the other morning while putting Dex on the bus.  He went running and slipped on the ice and down he went.  Luckily, he hopped back up and kept on going!
 2. Champagne, chocolates, flowers...what's your Valentine pleasure? Any special plans for the day?
I enjoy chocolates and flowers but they aren't necessary to me.  For me some alone time with the hubby is what I crave.  We had our "Valentine's Date" on Saturday.  Doug took me to the movies and we saw "Forever My Girl".  It was the perfect Valentine movie :)
 3. Are you a hopeless romantic or do you fall more in the category of practical and pragmatic? What's a gesture you find romantic?
I'm a romantic but the hubby is practical.  Therefore, any kind of romantic gesture from him is well appreciated.
 4. Do you ask a lot of questions in life or are you pretty content with what you already know?
I'm a question asker.  I like to understand "things".
 5. Your favorite power ballad?
 6. Insert your own random thought here.
Why is it that when I have to fast, all I crave is a Diet Dr. Pepper?  I'm so thirsty!
I'd love to return the visit!  Please leave a comment and a link!
Journal Entry ~ 2/13/18
Today was a good day!
~I got Dex on the bus, took the girls to school and then hung out with Damon all day.
~We all had our 6 month dental cleanings and check-ups at 3:30pm.  Doug was the only one that has to go back for dental work.  He has two filling that have chipped and need replaced.  The rest of us don't have to go back until August.
~Tonight was the Harvester's Meeting.  The Harvester's is the ladies group at our Church.  We meet on the second Tuesday of each month for a meal and a meeting.  The food is always wonderful and I am so full!
~I'm behind on my RTW Word reading.  I should take some time before bed to catch up.  I think I will do that.
~I have to fast tonight and in the morning.  Tomorrow I get my annual bloodwork and mammogram done.  My mammogram is scheduled for 9am.  I think I'll get the girls to school and go straight to the Diagnostic Center for my bloodwork before the mammogram.  I don't mind getting either one done.  I just hate waiting for results.  Even though I have no reason to really worry, I still do until I get the "OK".
~Doug and Kaylee are binge watching the show "Jericho".  I'm catching bits and pieces while I'm on the computer.  I might have to start at the beginning and catch up to them.  Right now I'm still trying to catch up on NCIS before starting to watch the new episodes.  I miss Tony and Ziva, but I am enjoying Quinn and Torres.
For now,
Colletta
Journal Entry ~ 2/12/18
I feel like there is so much that I haven't blogged about.  I've fallen into a rut of only posting certain linkups on certain days and that leaves out a lot about life.
Every now and then I'm going to start posting a Journal Entry.  It may be daily it may be weekly.  Who knows....
So for today:
~I've mentioned that I babysit my cousin's little one 3 days a week.  What I haven't mentioned is that I quit my part-time job at the College.  I just wasn't happy there anymore.  There wasn't anything in particular that was bad about the job, it just wasn't me anymore.  So, I'm babysitting and loving it!  I get Dexter onto the school bus then drop the girls off at school.  Then for the rest of the day it is just me and Damon.  Steph gets home just in time for me to pick the girls up at school and then we head home or to whatever activity we have on that particular day.  So far, so good...
~One of Kona's litter-mates passed away a few days ago from Parvo.  I don't understand how that would have happened when the puppy had the vaccinations.  It makes me worry about Kona.  She had her shots up-to-date when we got her and we were diligent about making sure she got all the vaccines and shots at our vet afterward.  I don't know much about Parvo, but should I be worried???
~We got our taxes done tonight.  It is always a love/hate time for me.  I hate paying someone to do the taxes but I do enjoy getting a refund!  I could try to fill out the tax forms myself, but it is just so much easier and quicker to go where we've been going for years.  They punch in the numbers and , voila, done.
~I need to catch up on my Read Thru the Word.  I'm 2 days behind.  I don't want to get any further behind than that because then it will be too hard to catch up.
~Once again, I didn't exercise today.  I just didn't have time and I'm just too tired now.  I need to get to bed.  4am comes early.
For now,
Colletta
This book was given to me by a friend who really enjoyed it.  I love the premise of the book so hopefully, I'll get to read some this week.
Saturday Weigh-In ~ 2/10/18
I went to the dr. for my annual check-up yesterday.  According to their scale I was up 3.2 lbs from my last Saturday Weigh-in.  Sigh...
I know that it was a different scale and all that jazz but it still was sigh-worthy :(
I keep gaining and losing the same 5 pounds over and over and can't make any headway!
I'm not anywhere near where I wanted to be weight-wise by this time.  I only have a month until my 40th birthday and 6 months ago had big weight loss plans.
I can sigh and look back all I want, but that isn't going to change anything.  What will change is how I go from here on out.
How much do I want it?  So much!
How can I do it?  I don't know!
Any ideas?
How was your week?
~I hit 1,000,000 views on the blog!  I've been watching for weeks as it ever so slowly crept up and finally hit 1,000,000.  It only took me 9 years!
~I bought the LANCO CD!  I absolutely love "Greatest Love Story" so when I saw the CD at Wal-Mart it jumped into my buggy!  I've been listening and there are a lot of really good songs :)
~The Ravelry BAMCAL 2018 and Moogly released new crochet blocks!  Now to find some time to crochet :)
~We've been having a bit of a BBC Sherlock Holmes Netflix binge!  I'm on Season 3 and loving it.  It is suspenseful and funny at the same time :)
~Last, but not least, today is my Groudhog Baby's birthday!  Little Miss Laken turns 11 years old at 1:15pm.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  8*F and big, fat snowflakes were falling.  Happy Birthday, Baby Girl :)
