Hello Monday ~ 5/13/2024

I really, really wanted to have lots of pictures from a fun weekend for this post.  I took the pictures, I really did!  Which led me to wanting to have a better phone camera.  The hubby and I decided to check out phone deals at our carrier and we ended up getting new phones today.  This should be a good thing but I forgot the pain it is trying to remember passwords (some of which I didn't have written down)!  I am so frustrated right now that I almost just wanted to say "forget it", go to bed and cry.

All because I wouldn't have facebook or messenger until I get it figured out.  Isn't that totally and completely sad and ridiculous?  So I've decided that maybe, just maybe, I shouldn't load facebook or messenger on my phone at all.  Something to think long and hard about...

Other than that, I had a really good weekend.

Friday evening, I worked on decluttering my desk area in the Family Room.  I took before and after pictures but, alas, I don't know where they went.  Somewhere into the abyss of pictures taken but never downloaded on my computer or printed.  Again, frustrated!

Apparently you could see the Northern Lights where I live in PA on Friday night and Saturday night.  I knew nothing about it until Saturday morning and then Sunday night it was pouring rain when I went to bed.  Laken told me that it cleared up around 2am but I wasn't staying up that late.  I did get to see lots of amazing pictures though!

Saturday morning, we went to see my cousin little boy, Damon, play soccer.  He has improved so much already.  This is his first year playing (he's 6 year old) and I can see a big difference between the first game we went to and this game.  

After the game, we went grocery shopping.  Nothing exciting there.

Saturday afternoon/evening I finally took the time to get a MUCH needed pedicure.  I am now sandal weather ready.  Now we just need the sandal weather.  This entire weekend has been rainy and chilly.  I'm looking forward to some nicer weather.  I can't wear open-toe shoes to work but I want to be able to come home and run around in my flip flops.  Or even better...bare feet!

Sunday morning the sun was finally shining for a bit so I woke up in a good mood.  First things first, we went to Church.  There was a special Mother's Day program which I took part in.  I read a little poem about "What Mother Means".  I made the mistake of looking at my Mom in the middle of reading the poem and her eyes were tearing up which made me tear up.  Those poems on Mother's Day always make me emotional.

All Sunday afternoon was spent at the phone store.  Which brings me full circle to now, Sunday night, when I am writing this post.

All in all, it was a great weekend.  I spent time with those I love and both of my girls told me "Happy Mother's Day" without me having to say:  "Do you know what today is?".  I felt pampered and loved.  Who could ask for more?

EDITED TO ADD:  I figured out how to get pictures from my phone to my computer!!!!  I went back and added a few to the post :)

~The kittens, Flynn and Clover, had their final booster shot at the vet.  They have come so far since their first appointment!  They were only 4.5 weeks old the first time we took them for their check-up and sat so scared on the exam table.  This time they were exploring the whole room!  They are very mischievous and can be quite wild at times.  Then sometimes they are very sweet and loving.  Such characters!

~I had a wonderful Mother's Day!  Actually, the whole weekend was great :)  Saturday we went to the Barnes & Noble because Laken said she would buy me a book with her own money!  This was major!  But, I just couldn't see spending $16.99 of her limited money on a paperback book.  I told I'd take a rain check :)  Kaylee came over and brought my Mother's Day gifts from both the girls.  I love my new cup and the flowers are so pretty and holding up rather well.

~I gave the hubby a haircut!  This in and of itself isn't major but wait until you see the before, during and after pictures!  Such a difference.  And great for the nice weather we're starting to get.  For the record, he was NOT fond of me posting these pictures but he's a good sport and let me anyway :)

~Speaking of the weather, it has been a gorgeous couple of days.  I enjoyed sitting outside on the deck as much as possible and hanging clothes on the clothesline.  It is supposed to be warm this weekend but rain so I'm enjoying it while I can.

~We have a nosy chicken!  No matter where we go, she'll be there, sticking her nose into whatever is going on.  The hubby was taking pictures and she was fascinated.  I love this picture he got.  It cracks me up :)

~I wrote a separate post about the Summer Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study but I'm going to post about it here as well.  The study starts May 31st and is "Fighting Words" by Ellie Holcomb.  I hope you'll be able to join in!  Isn't the book beautiful???

Tea Time ~ Prom and Yardwork ~ 5/11/18

~Kaylee's Senior Prom was last Saturday night.  She looked beautiful and had a wonderful time.  The theme was "Winter Wonderland".  A bit ironic as we've just now started having Spring weather!  Now to focus on Senior Trip...

~Another Senior Moment was Baccalaureate.  Kaylee was asked to sing to represent the Class of 2018.  She sang a song called "Above All" and did a wonderful job.  I'm so proud of my baby girl!

~I've been able to spend a good bit of time on my deck crocheting and reading.  I LOVE IT!  I can't wait to get flowers to plant in the containers we bought the other day.  We've been doing a lot of yardwork to repair the mess that was made during excavation for the addition.  We also got 12 ton of gravel for the parking lot and driveway.  Lots of work getting done around here :)

~We had our Mother's Day Banquet at Church Tuesday evening.  We ordered a cake for the occasion and I love how the bakers decorated it!  They put leaves going down the sides of the cake.  So pretty!  I'll add a picture soon :)


~I finally wrote a book review!  It was only my 7th review of the year.  I'm so behind on my Goodreads Challenge that I don't think it is possible to catch up.  I think I'm now 12 books behind schedule!  You can click HERE to read my review of Hope Harbor by Irene Hannon.

Family Time ~ Planting Flowers ~ 5/16/17

 

Last week my facebook was blowing up with Prom pictures.  This week it has been blowing up with Mother's Day greeting and rightfully so!

We always get my Mom bedding flowers for Mother's Day.  It is what she wants every year so we just go with it.

We had a nice evening of planting said flowers together.  Here are some pictures that I took:

~Kaylee's Jr. Prom was last Friday evening.  Her date was her wonderful boyfriend Shawn.  I had a great time helping her get ready and taking pictures.  I can't believe my baby is growing up so fast.  For more pictures, click HERE.

~I was sitting on my swing one day this past week and Laken brought me a flower :)  She loves picking flowers no matter how many time I tell her to just let them grow.  I sat the flower, an azalea, on the arm of my swing and I was struck my the colors.  My swing is, of course, my favorite color and the pink of the azalea with beautiful :)

~My Aunt Donna and I have been walking 3 nights a week (at least when it isn't raining!).  Laken and Dex (my cousin's little boy) usually walk with us.  I took my camera along one day to get some pictures of nature.  I just love a pretty picture of a road.  It strikes my imagination :)  And look how green everything is getting!  I love it :)

~I read a really good book this week.  It is a cozy called "Every Trick in the Book" by Lucy Arlington.  I read it over the course of one day!  I got really caught up in the mystery :)  Be watching for my review!

 

~I'm really excited for Mother's Day!  My husband and girls always take me out to lunch after Church.  I just need to decide where I want to go this year.  Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's reading this :)

1) This week's featured artist uses her middle initial (C. for Carolyn) all the time. Do you use your middle initial very often?

I use my middle initial every time I sign my name. 

2) In this song, a mother tells off the local PTA. What's the most recent school event you attended -- whether as a parent, a teacher or a student?

I work at our local community college so I'm at "school" every week day.  Other than that it would be "Green Eggs and Ham Day" with my second grader.

 3) The lyrics reference the mom's miniskirts, which were trendy in the 1960s. The website Popsugar reports that gingham checks are trendy for 2015. Tell us about the most recent addition to your wardrobe.

The most recent addition to my wardrobe were 5 pairs of work capri's for the summer.

4) Thinking of moms, Access Hollywood named Carol Brady of The Brady Bunch TV's #1 mom. Who is your favorite TV mom?

My current favorite TV mom is Martha Rogers.  She is Rick Castle's mom on "Castle"

 5) Mother Winters always gave Sam peppermint tea to calm her stomach. Do you have any tried-and-true home remedies to share?
We make a baking soda mixture to put on bee stings.

 6) Sam's mother always tips 15% in restaurants. Sam has worked in food service and is more judgmental, tipping between 10% and 25%, depending on the quality of the service. What's your tipping policy? Are you more like Sam or her mother?

I'm not a huge tipper.  I probably give about 15% also.

7) When the tip of her shoelace becomes frayed, Sam's mother snips off the end and then paints the tip with clear nail polish. Good as new! Sam thinks that's crazy because you can just buy new laces for less than $2. Are you more frugal like mother or spendthrift like daughter?

On this one, I'd go spendthrift! hehe

8) Mother Winters loves how french vanilla smells and burns her Yankee Candles all year around. Do you use scented candles or air fresheners?

I love candles!  I use them as often as possible.  I also hand air fresheners in my office and car.

 9) Sam is celebrating Mother's Day with her mother's favorite, Hershey Bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate or chocolate with almonds?

 

Hmmm...Definitely NOT dark chocolate.  Probably chocolate with almonds.

Hodgepodge ~ Mother's Day ~ 5/6/15

 

Joyce's Hodgepodgey Questions:

1. What's a phrase your mother often said to you? If you're a parent, is this something you now say to your own children?
"You need to eat more vegetables!"  Because I don't like vegetables, to this day, I've made it a point of trying to get my girls to eat and like their veggies.  So, I don't usually have to say this because they eat them up.

 2. What is a scent you associate with your mother or your childhood home?
Jergen's Cherry Almond Hand Lotion.  Every time I smell it, it takes me back to when I was little.

 3. What's an activity you remember always doing with your mother (or someone who was a mother figure in your life)?

The thing we did together the most often was wash the dishes.  My mom would wash and I would dry.  We also baked a lot and cooked together also.

4. Flared jeans, maxi dresses, and jumpsuits are 70's fashion trends back this spring. Are you on board? Which trend would you be most inclined to try? For the men...flared corduroys, wide-collared shirts, and floral prints...what say you? 

Seriously!  I might wear a maxi dress but that is as far as it goes!

 5. May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Day and also Nurse Appreciation Day. Is there a nurse or teacher  you have especially appreciated along the way? Tell us why?

I work in the Nursing Department of our local college so I'm surround by nurses all day long.  The group I work with are a very special group of people.  Very kind and loving.  As for teachers, I'm going to say my mom as my Sunday School teacher.  She taught the kindergarten class for years and I still remember making cotton ball sheep!

                                         

 6. If I came by your house, what would I find on your frig door?

Pictures of all the little ones in my family.  Also colored creations of my daughter's.

 7. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana made her royal entrance on Saturday, May 2nd. On a scale of 1-10, how much attention did you give to all the news coverage? 1=Who's Charlotte? 10=sat glued to the telly, cuppa in hand.

I'd say a 4.  I was really only interested in the name.  I have a thing for names and was very curious as to what the princess would be called.  Other than that, I found it amazing that Kate left the hospital--in high heels--only hours after giving birth.  She must be one tough lady!

It looks like it is going to storm.  The sun is shining in some places of the yard and in others it is very cloudy and dreary.  I wouldn't mind a good thunderstorm!
