Thankful Thursday ~ 7/30/20

Here are some things that made me thankful this week:

~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Camping!  We went camping for three days and two nights at our local State Park Campground.  We had a great time as always even though setup and tear down are hard work.  We had some of Laken's friends over to the camp on Friday and they had such a good time together. :)\
~Good Doctor's Appt!  The hubby had a yearly physical (first one in 13 years!).  He needed refills on his inhaler that he got at MedExpress and also some spots on his back looked at.  Thankfully, the dr. doesn't think the spots are of any concern!  Just some old sun damage.  Doug also agreed to get some bloodwork done.  I'm praying that he doesn't pass out! The dr. told him "See you next year!"
~New Planner!  I'm getting lots of appointment cards piling up for after January 1st so I decided to look for a new planner so I can write them in.  I found one that says "Life is a beautiful ride" and the main color throughout is my favorite: turquoise.  I can't wait to start writing in it :)
~Lilah's Eye is Healing!  We had Lilah to the vet for another recheck of the ulcer that formed on her eye.  The vet said that the ulcer is almost healed and that it will get even better with continued use of the eye drops.  We need to take her back to the vet once more just to be sure it is still on the mend and then she should be good to go.  Or stay.  At home.  Where she likes it :)
What are you thankful for this week?
Wondering Wednesday ~ Summers as a Kid ~ 7/29/20
Welcome to Wondering Wednesdays hosted by A Baker's Perspective, a weekly post to learn more about me and other bloggers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today’s questions is – What did you do during the summers as a kid?

My Answer - Summers in the country is how my love of reading came about!

There weren't any kids around to play with and there really wasn't much to do, so I found new friends in books :)

Every Friday we would go to "town" for groceries.  I would beg my parents to stop at the library each week where I would stock up about 10 books per week.  Believe me I had no problem reading them all.

I stayed up late reading and would also pick my book back up first thing in the morning.

I can't tell you how many times I got in trouble for sneaking away to my room to read when I was supposed to be helping my Mom with dishes, laundry, etc., etc., etc,.

So...During the summers as a kid I read :)

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/27/20

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, and Happy Monday!
The weather outside is:
It is 80F Sunday evening at 8pm.  I heard today that August is supposed to have record high temperatures.  Lord, preserve us all!
On my breakfast plate:
This morning I had an English Muffin and my daily dose of caffeine.
On today's to do list:
Kaylee has a hair appointment at 10am but before that I need to go to the bank and the post office.  After Kaylee's hair appointment, we're going to get groceries before she has to go to work.
Happening this week:
This week isn't going to be any more relaxing than last week.  We have hair appointments, doctor appointment and vet appointments to go to.  Laken has volleyball Open Gym 2 days and I have a crap-ton of laundry to wade through.  I'm still putting things away from our camping trip this past weekend.
Currently reading:
I'm getting ready to start reading "The Jane Austen Book Club" by Karen Joy Fowler.  I joined a Jane Austen Book Club on facebook and this will be our first book to read together.
Sunday Blessings ~ 7/26/20
What better way to bless and be blessed than with scripture and prayer.  The following are taken from Serenity for a Woman's Soul 2020 Creative Planner for this week.
~~~~~~~~~

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

May my heart and my mind and my very soul be so like that of Jesus that others will see my Savior in me.

Thank You, Father.

Thankful Thursday ~ 7/23/20

Here are some things that made me thankful this week:

~~~~~~~~~~~
~ 7/16/20 ~ Good Dental Checkups!  Kaylee and I had our dental checkup and cleaning today.   We both had good reports and were told to keep up the good work.  But...we're supposed to floss more...  lol
~ 7/17/20 ~ Highlights!  I made a hair appointment and got in right away for highlights!  I needed to change it up a bit.  I love it!
~7/18/20 ~ Working at the Church!  Doug, Laken and I worked on building a playground for the littles at Church.  We have a playground for the bigger kids but we've been blessed with some toddlers in the congregation and they needed a space of their own to play where they wouldn't get run over by the "big kids".  It was so hot but we got it put together for the most part!
~ 7/19/20 ~ Treadmill!  I am so thankful to have a treadmill on days like today.  It would have been WAY too hot to walk outside!
~ 7/20/20 ~ Progress on Laken's Room!  Laken wants to redecorate her room into a "teenage room".  Doug is on vacation the week and one of his projects is to work on Laken's room.  It isn't a painless process to be sure!  Laken is a hoarder and doesn't want to get rid of anything.  Any progress is better than none!
~ 7/21/20 ~ School Board Meeting!  The School Board for Laken's school met this evening.  I haven't heard yet what they decided to do for the Fall but at least they have to be making progress.  We have no idea what to expect so far!
~ 7/22/20 ~ Lilah's Eye Getting Better!  We had Lilah back to the vet for a re-check of her eye and it is making progress in healing.  The vet added a second eye drop that will hopefully help it heal all the way.
What are you thankful for this week?
Wondering Wednesday ~ 2020 Goals ~ 7/22/20
Welcome to Wondering Wednesdays hosted by A Baker's Perspective, a weekly post to learn more about me and other bloggers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today’s questions is – What is one non-reading goal you’ve set for 2020?

My Answer - Sigh...The never ending struggle to lose weight!

I have struggled with my weight my entire life except for a few years between 17 and 23 years of age.  For those short 6 years, I was a healthy weight because I made it my main priority.

Then came marriage and then came the baby carriage!  And motherhood!  And Post-Partum Depression!  And antidepressants!  And a diagnosis of Bipolar II!  And everything else that life throws at a person!

Needless to say, I haven't quite achieved this goal.

But...

I'm not giving up :)

What is one of your goals for 2020?

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/20/20

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, and Happy Monday!
The weather outside is:
It is almost 9pm Sunday night and it is still 89F!  It has been so hot and our A/C in the vehicle needs charged.  Everywhere we go, I become a sweaty mess!
On my breakfast plate:
This morning I had an English Muffin and my daily dose of caffeine.
On today's to do list:
On Monday's to-do list:  Exercise, Weigh-in, Take Kaylee's tags to the dealership to fix, and Laken has volleyball camp.
Happening this week:
This week is as busy as last week!  We have a vet appointment for Lilah who has an ulcer on her eye and has to wear the "cone of shame".  This will be a recheck so hopefully cone can go after her appointment.  We're going camping so I have to get all the laundry done and buy camping food.  Then a few short days of relaxing at the campground :)
Currently reading:
I did not even pick up a book (or kindle) this week!  I am reading my daily devotions most days though.  I'm going to take my kindle with me camping and maybe a paperback to try to get some reading by the lake in.
On the TV:
Troll's World Tour...Don't bother!
For some reason, "Hot Mess!" wasn't on this week...
Home Town
Making It Home
On the menu week:
I didn't make an official menu this week.
We're using up meat from the freezer until we go camping.  Then regular camping foods.
Thankful Thursday ~ 7/16/20
Here are some things that made me thankful this week:
~~~~~~~~~~~

~ 7/9/20 ~ Ice Cream!  It has been so hot lately and when it is hot, we go get ice cream!  There is an ice cream stand about 15 minutes away called "Sundae's" and they have a peanut butter sundae to die for.  This week their special flavor is peanut butter.  A peanut butter sundae with peanut butter ice cream and peanuts on top is my absolute favorite!  Yummo!

~ 7/10/20 ~ New phones!  We decided to upgrade from having Tracfones to Boost Mobile.  We were able to get 4 new phones and unlimited services for $120/mo.  We were at the Boost Mobile store for 3 hours getting everything switched but it was worth it, I guess :)

~ 7/11/20 ~ Tyler!  Today a young man that goes to Church with us had a 16th Birthday Party that we were invited to.  There was lots of good food and plenty of good company.  Happy Bday, Tyler!

~ 7/12/20 ~ Rain!  Finally, we had a good down pour!  We really need the rain and it cooled the temperatures off nicely :)

~ 7/13/20 ~ No Cavities!  Laken had a dental appt with for a cleaning last Thursday and the hygienist thought she saw two small cavities.  When we went back for the fillings today, the dentist said that he didn't see anything that needed filled at this point and we'd just keep an eye on them.  For this I was very thankful!  Laken does not do well with needles and I was earnestly praying that she wouldn't pass out when they tried to give her the Novocaine!  Laken said, "The Lord provides!" :)

~ 7/14/20 ~ Volleyball!  Laken's Volleyball Open Gym started this afternoon!  She loves it.  While she was in practice, I walked around the track for 33 minutes exactly :)  It was so hot and I was ready to get into some A/C and get a drink of water.  I'm thankful that some things are seemingly normal again.

~ 7/15/20 ~ Clean cars!  I have decided to mark on my schedule to clean the cars out every Wednesday.  If not, way too much junk gets left in them.  I can't stand having to move junk out of the way so that we can get in.  I love a clean car!

What are you thankful for this week?

Wondering Wednesday ~ Rural or City ~ 7/15/20

Welcome to Wondering Wednesdays hosted by A Baker's Perspective, a weekly post to learn more about me and other bloggers.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today’s questions is – Do you live in a rural or city setting?
My Answer - I live in a rural setting.  In fact, we are surrounded by State Game Lands.
The closest town is 10 minutes away and it is very small.  The next "bigger" town north of us is a good 30 minute drive.  This is where Laken goes to Middle School and Doug and Kaylee work.  The next closest "city" south of us is also a 30 minute drive.  This is where Kaylee's College is located.
I love living in the country.  The only thing I mind is all the gas money we have to spend traveling to work, groceries, practices, etc., etc., etc.  That bums me out but I guess it is worth it ;)  Oh, and winter can be a bear too!
Do you live in a rural or city setting?
Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/13/20
Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello, and Happy Monday!

The weather outside is:

As of Sunday at 4:30pm it is 85F outside and very slightly cloudy.  Last week was so hot!  This week is supposed to be another week in the 90F's.  We're just trying to stay somewhat cool!

On my breakfast plate:

On my breakfast plate this morning was a Chocolate Peanut Butter Special K Bar.

On today's to do list:

Today we went to Church and took a Sunday Afternoon Nap.  We're headed out soon for Bible Study and the girls' Youth Group Meeting.

Happening this week:

This week is full of appointment and happenings.  Doug and Laken both have Dental Appointment Monday.  Lilah, our black lab, has a recheck on her eye at the Vets, also on Monday.  Kaylee and I go to the Dentist on Thursday for cleanings, hopefully no cavities!  Plus Open Gym for Jr. High Volleyball starts this week.  Lots of running around!

Currently reading:

I've started reading "Not Alone" by Liz Bradford on my kindle through Kindle Unlimited.  It is very interesting I just haven't had much time to sit down and read this week.

On the TV:

Hallmark Movies
Disney+

"Hot Mess"
"Magnum P.I."

Listening to:

Klove
The Message

On the menu week:

I didn't get the menu done yet this week.  I think Monday night we'll have pork chops and mashed potatoes as we have some pork chops in the freezer.  It is starting to look like Mother Hubbard's Cupboard here but I can't go for groceries until Tuesday!

Thankful Thursday ~ 7/9/20

Here are some things that made me thankful this week:

~~~~~~~~~~~
~Good Test Results!  Once again, the Lord came through in a big way.  During my monthly "female" self-check, I found a lump that scared me.  I got into see the doctor right away and she sent me for an ultrasound.  I was so nervous as I waited for the results.  It was only 10 minutes but it felt like hours!  The results showed perfectly normal breast tissue!  Nothing at all to worry about, thank the Good Lord :)
~#FitReaders!  I discovered a group of readers who are motivating each other to move more.  It was just what I needed to kick my rear in gear!  I set some goals on Tuesday and so far, so good!
~Air Conditioning!  I don't know about you but it has been SO VERY HOT in my area with little to no rain for days upon days.  I am so thankful that we have a portable A/C in the Family Room so that we have somewhere to go to cool off.  Hopefully next summer we'll have a more permanent solution to the heat in the addition of the house.
~Volleyball is Starting!  We got a text today that Open Gym will be starting next week for Jr. High Volleyball.  Laken is so excited and really happy that she will be having the same coaches as last year.  She also has an All American Volleyball Clinic coming up week after next.  It will be lots of running back and forth to the school for me but Laken loves Volleyball so much :)
~Safe Travels!  It took Kaylee a whole hour to get home after work one night because there was a tree across the road.  She had to turn around and come home the long way.  Needless to say, I was worried sick and ready to go looking for her.  Just as I was getting ready to leave, she pulled in the driveway.  Again, God is Good!
What are you thankful for this week?
Journal Entry ~ 7/9/20
A few sentences about each day...
June 28, 2020 - July 4, 2020
Sun/28 ~ Happy Lord's Day!  Kaylee had to go into work this afternoon as her company is having a 4th of July Sale.  Laken went down to Uncle Dan's to swim with him, Aunt Kelly and Andrew.  I picked her up in time for Youth Group in the evening.  All in all, it was a nice relaxing day.
Mon/29 ~ Grocery day was not good to us.  I bumped into the bank in our parking lot with the front corner of the Subaru.  I didn't think anything happened but when we were almost to the grocery store the inner fender and all the attachments started flying everywhere!  We bought a roll of duck tape at the store and taped the fender together to get home.  What a day!
Tues/30 ~ I called our car insurance and since we have full coverage on the Subaru I was able to make a claim.  The "claims guy" was a bit aggravating.  He kept asking me the same questions over and over.  Very irritating :(  We took the car to a local body shop to get an estimate.  Hopefully everything will go smoothly.
Wed/1 ~ Happy July!  I had a dr's appt and a test done today.  I'm happy to say that everything is good and "normal".  I'll leave it at that.  But... on the way home, in the Nitro, the brakes started sticking.  Once, again, we limped home.  All Doug had to say the whole way home was "You've got to be kidding me!"  That put both cars out of commission.  We called my brother, Dan, and he picked up the brakes and calipers from the parts store for us.  He also lent us one of his vehicles.  Thanks, Dan!
Thurs/2 ~ As of 7am, Doug is on "holiday".  He came home and put the new brakes etc. on the Nitro.  Then went to town and got a watermelon for the 4th of July.  We also swung by Dairy Queen and picked up a patriotic ice cream cake for Saturday's picnic and Fireworks.  Doug stayed up all day and is now crashing on the couch watching Hallmark Movies :)
Fri/3 ~ Today is Dad's 73rd birthday!  We went to Bob Evans for breakfast where I got pancakes or as they called them "hotcakes".  Kaylee had to go to work this afternoon.  The rest of us went to Shawnee.  The guys fished and us girls sat in the shade at a picnic table.  Laken colored while I started working on a new project.  We then stopped for ice-cream on our way home :)
Sat/4 ~ Happy Independence Day!  I love the 4th of July and all the festivities that come with it.  We had a quiet morning and then went to my brother and SIL's for a picnic and swimming at noon.  The kids stayed there to swim but Doug and I came home about 3pm to let the dogs out and take an afternoon nap.  At 7pm we all went to my Aunt Donna's and Uncle Charlie's for more food, fun and fireworks!  I love the USA!!!
Until next week,
Wondering Wednesday ~ My Favorite Summer Activity ~ 7/8/20
Welcome to Wondering Wednesdays hosted by A Baker's Perspective, a weekly post to learn more about me and other bloggers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today’s questions is – What is your favorite summer activity?

My Answer - There are many activities that I enjoy in the summer.  There sitting on my porch swing while reading, swimming, hiking, camping, going for ice cream, etc., etc., etc.

But.. my favorite activity is probably going to our local State Park and sitting in the shade by the lake.  Sometimes I'll read, sometimes I'll crochet or cross stitch and sometimes I just sit there enjoying the scenery and the breeze off the lake.

We're very lucky to have a Pennsylvania State Park only about 15 minutes from our house.  We go there often but also like to take day trips to other State Parks and explore.  I love it!

Here are a few pictures from our latest trip to the lake:

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/6/20

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm writing this post on Thursday night as we'll be having a very busy weekend starting with tomorrow.
The weather outside is:
It isn't too awfully hot outside right now.  In fact, it is hanging around 73F which is fairly comfortable.  I turned the AC off for the night.
This weekend and all next week is supposed to have high's in the 90F's.  I think we'll be visiting my brother's house for some pool time!
On my breakfast plate:
Tomorrow is actually my Dad's 73rd birthday!  Happy Birthday, Dad!!!!  He wants to go to Bob Evan's for a late breakfast.  I'll either get an omelet or sausage gravy and biscuits.  I haven't decided yet :)
On today's to do list:
Today's to do list was getting the brakes on the Nitro fixed and picking up supplies for Saturday's festivities.
Monday's to do list will be grocery shopping and other normal daily tasks.
Happening this week:
This weekend will be all the 4th of July festivities.  We're going to my brother at lunch to have some picnicky foods and swim.  Then in the evening, we're going to my Aunt Donna and Uncle Charlie's for more food and fireworks.
Next week is fairly basic except for dentist appointments on Thursday and a 16th birthday party for a friend's son on Saturday.
It is a pay week, though, so whoohooo!
Currently reading:
I'm getting ready to start reading "Not Alone" by Liz Bradford on my kindle through Kindle Unlimited.
On the TV:
I've been watching some Hallmark movies lately but not the Christmas movies.  I just don't get into the whole "Christmas in July" deal.  I've mostly been watching the mystery movies.
We've also been catching up on DVR'd episodes of "Hot Mess".  It is an organizing show and is so interesting.  Hopefully Laken will get an organizing bug and get her room straightened up!
Listening to:
Kaylee has been watching "Hamilton" on Disney+, so the soundtrack has been in the background for the past few days.
On the menu week:
Monday -  Lumberjack Snacks (a friend's food truck...Yumm)
Tuesday -  Irish Stew
Wednesday -  Pizza
Thursday  - Cheese Ravioli w garlic bread
Friday -  Pork Chops, mashed potatoes
