Blurb:

It is 1878 and the Caldwells and Wainwrights have been feuding for decades. Still, Sarah Caldwell has misgivings when her father pressures her into distracting a ranch hand while he and her brothers rob the Wainwright place. When it becomes clear that hand is actually Cord Wainwright, Sarah realizes she needs to lay low. But Cord spots her in town and, with the sheriff away, makes a citizen's arrest, dragging her off to the Wainwright ranch until the sheriff's return.

As the feud boils over, Cord and Sarah make a most inconvenient discovery--they are falling in love. Can they betray their families for love? Or will their families betray them?
Against the beautiful and wild backdrop of the Rocky Mountains comes this sweeping saga of romance, betrayal, and forgiveness from beloved author Kathleen Morgan.

My Thoughts:

This book was just OK for me and I actually had to make myself continue to read until the end.  Not that it wasn't a good book but it just seemed a little forced to me.

The romance was almost non-existent.  Cord and Sarah just decide one day that they are in love even though they've hardly had any interaction at all.  In fact, I was kind of hoping that Sarah would fall in love with Nick, Cord's brother!

The turmoil between the two families was interesting but heartbreaking with Sarah torn between the two.  Especially because she has to take into consideration her little brother Danny and his health problems.

Cord was a bit egotistical and I didn't really like him that much.  That was probably why I was rooting for Nick!

This is book on of the "Heart of the Rockies" series.  I do look forward to reading book two even though this first book wasn't my favorite from this author.

  1. That book looks interesting...I am a sucker for books set in the 1800s!! But they are a hit and miss sometimes! Thanks for the review!!

  2. The premise of this one reminds me of one by Karen Witemeyer, but I really enjoyed that one. Sorry this one missed the mark for you. Thanks so much for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday!
