All things bookish!

What I Read:

What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

Have healthy eating plans left you feeling defeated? Based on her bestseller Made to Crave, Lysa TerKeurst offers a new perspective to all those stuck in the cycle of losing weight and then gaining it back, equipping you with the deeper spiritual and emotional motivation you need to make lasting changes.

So often we characterize our food cravings as bad, especially when dieting has made us feel even more disappointed and discouraged. But the reality is we were made to crave. We just need to realize God created us to crave more of Him instead of misplacing that craving by overindulging in physical pleasures and unhealthy choices that will never truly satisfy.

In the midst of her own personal struggle with this, New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst invites us to embrace a new outlook that leads to enduring change. In this newly revised and condensed version of Made to Crave, Lysa encourages you to:

Break the cycle of "I'll start again Monday" and start taking steps toward consistency that lasts
Stop agonizing over numbers on the scale and make peace with your body
Replace rationalizations that lead to failure with wisdom that leads to victory
Reach your healthy goals and grow closer to God through the process
This is not a "how-to" book. This is not the latest and greatest dieting plan. This is the necessary resource to use alongside whatever healthy lifestyle plan you choose that will help you find your "want to" and lead to a spiritual satisfaction that goes far beyond the physical.

First Lines:

"Several years ago, a weight-loss company came up with a brilliant advertising campaign."

"When I studied this scripture (Psalm 103) and decided to rest in the reality of what a good gift my body is, for the the first time in my life I thanked God for making me just the way He made me."

What I'll (Probably) Read Next:

Blurb:

Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank’s remarkable diary has since become a world classic—a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit.

In 1942, with Nazis occupying Holland, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and amusing, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.

  2. I certainly agree with you about book jackets. I want them off my books, too.

  3. I also take the book jacket off while reading. I don't want it in the way or damage it. Library books are the exception.

  4. I use the book jackets as bookmarks on hardbacks when I read those. I haven't read Anne Frank's diary in a while, it would probably be a good one to read again as an adult. I should read a TerKeurst book some day, I do need to figure out the weight loss/healthy eating thing. Hope you enjoy your books this week!

    1. I'm finding that I am getting so much more out of reading Anne Frank as an adult than when I was in 7th grade reading class. It is a different version, I'm sure, but I'm also reading from a different perspective.

  6. Hardcover books are way to expensive in SA, so I hardly read any. But if I do, cover off for safe keeping.

I'll start again after Easter Weekend...!! LOL!!

Have a good week and happy reading.

    1. I hardly ever read a hardcover either. I find they are much too difficult to hold in one hand. I hope you had a wonderful Easter and a great week!

  7. I just read Anne Frank last year, and I was amazed to find what a wise person she was at such a young age.

I take off book jackets while I read. Often picture books have surprises under the book jackets.

    1. I find that I am discovering so much more while reading Anne Frank at an older age. I read it in Jr high school when I much the same age that she was when writing. Now I have a teenage daughter and the perspective is totally different. Definitely worth re-reading!

  11. Book jackets off! Nice variety of books. I don't know if I've ever read The Diary of Anne Frank. It's one of those books so familiar that I feel like I've read it even if I haven't. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
