Tuesday 4 ~ Future Ahead ~ 7/27/2021

https://mytuesday4meme.blogspot.com/

Head over to Tuesday's Place for the questions and to visit everyone's answers!

This week we have some questions from Pamela Steiner once again.

I hope you enjoy them.

1.  Let's pretend that it is 50 years into the future, and explorers have just discovered your house, "frozen in time" exactly as it is today. Everything is preserved, even the food, but of course no one has lived there for fifty years.  What do you think would be their first reaction as they walk in the door of your house?

What is this "Burger King" they were having for dinner?

2.  What would the things left in your house tell the explorers about you?

We were a loving family with Christ at the center.  And we had way too many "gadgets".

3.  What kinds of books would they discover on your bookshelves or beside your chair/bed?

The Bible, inspirational fiction and a sprinkling of non-fiction.

4.  What things would they discover in your closets or cabinets that would make them wonder why on earth you were saving it?

This is a hard question because, naturally, I absolutely NEED everything I'm saving :)

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/26/2021

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, and Happy Monday!
The weather outside is:
Another nice week ahead :)
On today's to-do list:
Monday morning is filled with appointments for Laken.  First she has a sports physical for volleyball and track.  Then physical therapy for her knee pain.  The orthopedic surgery gave the "good-to-go" for sports and said that her knee pain is from her muscles developing at different rates and that PT should be able to alleviate the pain.
Annalea will be hanging out with me too :)
Happening this week:
We need to finalize the menu for the wedding with the caterer who is making the food and the cake.  We also need to work on decorations.  Other finishing touches for the wedding are all listed in a tablet to check off one-by-one :)  Less than 3 weeks to go!
Laken will be headed back to Volleyball open-gym on Tuesday and Thursdays until regular season practice starts toward the middle of the month.  Her school starts back on August 23rd and she is NOT happy about it!  She's nervous about heading into High School.
The hubby is on second shift this week so I'll be feeling lonely in the evening but have time to work on the Wedding Afghan for Kaylee and Shawn.  I have about 8 more rounds on the border to go...
I won't have Annalea on Tuesday as Steph is off work that day.  I'm thinking of treating myself to a mani-pedi.  I'm looking forward to it :)
Currently reading:
I just finished up "The 10 Commandments of Marriage" by Ed Young.  It was the first book I've finished since March.  You can read my review HERE.  I'm not sure what I'm going to read next.  I have a ton of fiction on my Kindle but I'm kinda in the mood for another non-fiction.  Any recommendations?
On the TV:
Hot Mess House
Black Widow on Disney+ ~ It was a good movie and well worth the money to purchase it as a "Premiere" movie.  It was much cheaper than if we'd have all gone to the theater to watch it.  There was some mild language so be cautious with the littles.
Listening to:
This week I featured "You Had Me From Hello" by Kenny Chesney on Songs on Sunday.  I'll be featuring all things "Wedding" for the next month.  I hope you'll check it out :)
On the menu week:
Not done yet :(
Monday ~
Tuesday ~
Wednesday ~
Thursday ~
Friday ~
Saturday ~
Sunday ~ Potluck at Church
In the Craft Basket:
As mentioned above, I have about 8 rounds on the border of the Wedding Afghan for Kaylee and Shawn.  I worked on it Saturday evening while watching Black Widow and made "some" progress but not as much I'd like.  20 days to go!
Our Church Youth Group made a trip to Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo in Kingwood, WV.  Isn't this giraffe gorgeous?
Memory Verse
"I hurried and did not delay To keep Your commandments."  Psalm 119:60
Have a great Monday!
Songs on Sunday ~ You Had Me From Hello by Kenny Chesney
3 weeks.  Only 3 weeks to get everything ready for our daughter's wedding.
As the countdown get shorter and shorter, I'm going to break away from my usual Christian music features for a few weeks to feature some songs that have special meaning during this time.
The first song I'm going to share is "You Had Me From Hello" by Kenny Chesney.
This is the song that the hubby and I danced to for our "First Dance" as a married couple.  Every time I hear it, I am transported to September 17, 2000 :)
Enjoy!
Book Review ~ The 10 Commandments of Marriage by Ed Young ~ 7/23/2021
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Title:  The 10 Commandments of Marriage by Ed Young
Series:
Pages:  216
Date Published:  October 1, 2014
Publisher:  Moody Publishers

 Blurb:

Marriage is God's idea. He planned it. He designed it. And if you follow His blueprint, it will be more rewarding, more loving, more exciting than you ever imagined.

In 10 Commandments of Marriage, Dr. Ed Young shares the “thou shalts” and the “thou shalt nots” of successful relationships—straight from the pages of God's Word. Long-married couples will find love-building precepts that will revive a failing marriage and make a great relationship even better. Soon-to-be-marrieds will discover what marriage is all about and gain priceless insights into starting on solid ground.

In words that are profound, often humorous, but always biblical, Dr. Young draws from decades of counseling couples to provide 10 commandments for a lifelong marriage that sizzles. God wants your marriage to be nothing short of incredible. And it could begin with this amazing book.
My Thoughts:
I can't believe that I'm finally writing a Book Review.  The last one I wrote was in March.  I should have known that a non-fiction read would be the way to break my reading block/slump.

This book caught my eye at the store because (as you might know already) my daughter will be getting married in 3 short weeks!!  (Yikes!)  All things wedding and marriage have been on my mind lately.  I purchased the book after reading the blurb on the back of the book and seeing just what the "10 Commandments of Marriage" were.  I love that they were listed plainly for all to see before buying the book.

Originally, I thought the book would be a great gift for Kaylee and Shawn in their soon-to-be married life.  I wanted to read it first to make sure I was gifting good, Biblical reading material.  I will be giving this book to them but I might have to buy another copy to keep for myself!

As you might be guessing, I loved this book!  I have never read anything by this author before, but his writing style is so easy to read and entertaining as well as informative.

Some of my favorite chapters were:

"Thou Shalt Be Selfless"
"Thou Shalt Continually Communicate"
and
"Thou Shalt Romance the Home

I easily could have listed all 10 chapters because they were ALL so very good.

I highly recommend this book to those engaged, young in marriage and those who have been married for YEARS.  I wish my husband were the reading type so we could read it together!

I purchased this book at Wal-Mart.

Onto the next book!

My Weekly Bookishness ~ 7/23/2021

All things bookish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I Read:
At this point, I haven't finished a book this week.  However, I have finished a few chapters of my current read.  I'm taking it slow and really soaking in the information.
So far, I've read:
"Thou Shalt Be Selfless"
"Thou Shalt Have No Strings Attached"
"Thou Shalt Continually Communicate"
and
"Thou Shalt Make Conflict Thy Ally
I'm hoping to finish it and actually write a review soon!  So exciting!  :)
What I'll (Probably) Read Next:
Kaely Quinn's talents as an FBI behavior analyst are impossible to ignore, no matter how unorthodox her methods. But when a reporter outs her as the daughter of an infamous serial killer, she's demoted to field agent and transferred to St. Louis.
Initially resentful of the assignment, Noah is surprised at how quickly his respect for Kaely grows, despite her oddities. But with a brazen serial killer who breaks all the normal patterns on the loose, Noah and Kaely are tested to their limits to catch the murderer before anyone else--including Kaely herself--is killed.
What I Can't Wait To Read:
Blurb:
Private Matthew Petticrew arrives in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces, an arrival which a war-weary France desperately hopes will help to end the turmoil. Having faced unthinkable things on the front, he is captivated by the sound of a lullaby, sung by a voice so pure he knows he must have imagined it. But rumors sweep through the trenches like wildfire, dubbing the voice "The Angel of Argonne," a mysterious presence who leaves behind wreaths on unmarked graves and footprints in the war-pocked soil.
Raised wild in the depths of the Forest of Argonne, France, Mireilles finds her world rocked when war comes crashing into the idyllic home she has always known, taking much from her. When Matthew discovers Mireilles, three things are clear: She is alone in the world, she cannot stay, and he and his two unlikely companions might be the only ones who can get her to safety.
The Good Stuff ~ 7/22/2021
~~~~~~~~

Time for another "Focus on the Good Stuff" post!

~Laken Is Good to Go!  Laken had to have an MRI of her knee last Friday because the xray showed something abnormal.  Then Monday we went to the Orthopedic Surgeon to find out what it is.  I am so very relieved to tell you that the surgeon told us it is a non-ossifying fibroma and nothing at all to worry about!  Her knee pain is totally unrelated.  She'll be going to physical therapy for her knee pain to strengthen muscles that are being underused.  So it was a very good appointment!  I was quite stressed so the news came as a great relief :)  She is all good for sports, gym etc.

~Meeting With the DJ!  We met with DJ Tuesday evening to go over the plan for the Wedding Reception.  He seems very professional and committed to making it a wonderful experience for Shawn and Kaylee.

~My New Watch Came!  My old, cheap, "fitbit-ish" watch broke after wearing it constantly for a year and a half.  I ordered a new, cheap, "fitbit-ish" watch on Saturday and it came yesterday (Wednesday)!  It is my favorite aqua/turquoise color and does so many things!  Most of which I won't even use!  I mainly use it for time and step count.  I hope this one lasts as long as the last :)

~I'm Reading a Book!  I haven't read in months so reading a book is good stuff!  I'm reading "The 10 Commandments of Marriage" by Ed Young as all thing marriage and wedding have been on my mind lately.  I started reading it with giving it to Kaylee and Shawn in mind and I probably still will.  However, I am learning so much and getting such good information from it and I'm only half way through.  If only the hubby were the reading type...  I think this would be a good book to read together :)

~Damon is OK!  My cousin's little boy, Damon, fell down the outdoor cellar steps Monday.  We were very worried when we heard the news that they were taking him to the ER as we didn't know the extent of his injuries.  He had a CT scan to check his head for injuries and it came back all good.  He ended up having to get stitches in his forehead and a staple in the back of his head.  So all things considered, we're very thankful that it wasn't worse!

What are you thankful for/smiling/exited about this week?  Tell me all the good stuff!

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/19/2021

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, and Happy Monday!
The weather outside is:
Another warm week ahead with some rain.  I am always amazed at how much a good thunderstorm drops the temperature.
On today's to-do list:
I'm writing this on Sunday but first thing Monday morning we take Laken to the orthopedic surgeon (along with the disc of her knee MRI) to see what is going on.  Prayers are very much appreciated that it is nothing serious!
Happening this week:
Plans for the wedding are coming along at a rather rapid pace now.  Only less than 4 weeks left to go.  I don't know how I'm feeling now that it is getting so real.  Kaylee won't be far away (the house they are buying is only 10 minutes from us) but at the same time it will be so different.
I finally looked at the school calendar for Laken and she goes back on Monday, August 23rd.  She's not thrilled about the idea.  She'll be a Freshman in the high school.  She has her mind made up that all the upper classmen hate Freshmen and it is going to be terrible.  I just pray that everything with her knee is situated before school starts.
The hubby is on third shift this week.  His favorite.  For real.  Some people think that is crazy but it works for him and for the family.
Saturday we'll be going to a zoo with Laken's Youth Group from Church.  I'm looking forward to the day trip.
Currently reading:
Reading fiction just did NOT happen this week.  I decided to try a nonfiction book that I saw in the store and really intrigued me.  I started reading "The 10 Commandments of Marriage" by Ed Young on Saturday night.  If it turns out to be really good, I'm going to pass it on to Kaylee and Shawn as they are getting ready to embark on their new marriage journey.
On the TV:
We didn't manage to sit down to watch "Black Widow" this past weekend.  I'm hoping to have a family movie night soon, though.
Listening to:
This week I featured "Made to Fly" by Colton Dixon on Songs on Sunday.  I hope you'll check it out :)
On the menu week:
Not done yet :(  Need to get this done!
Monday ~
Tuesday ~
Wednesday ~
Thursday ~
Friday ~
Saturday ~
Sunday ~ Potluck at Church
In the Craft Basket:
I didn't even pick my hook up this week.  My neck was out of place and I had a headache all week.  I managed to get to the chiropractor on Saturday morning and it is feeling SO much better.  I need to get back in the groove or I'm not going to get Kaylee and Shawn's Wedding Afghan done in time!
Picture from the Camera
My SIL, Kelly, found these dish towels and just had to buy them as a wedding gift.  Now Shawn won't be able to say that he can't dry dishes when his name is ACTUALLY on the towel!
Have a great Monday!
Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 7/12/2021
Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello, and Happy Monday!

The weather outside is:

Nice temperatures but this week looks very cloudy with thunderstorms.  However cliché, we do need the rain.

On today's to-do list:

I have an eye doctor appointment this afternoon and have to get groceries at some point thereafter.

Annalea will be haning out with me too :)

Happening this week:

The countdown is on for the wedding!  Only 34 more days!  We had a surprise Bridal Shower for Kaylee on Saturday afternoon.  My sister-in-law, Kelly, did the brunt of the work and did a wonderful job at it.  She could be an event planner in all seriousness.  Kaylee's vacation for their honeymoon was approved.  Also, the appraisal on the house Kaylee and Shawn are buying is set for Tuesday.

Laken has to have an MRI on her knee to see what is going on.  The X-ray showed something so now she has the MRI on Friday and sees an orthopedic surgeon next Monday.  So no Volleyball until we see what is being shown on the X-ray.  Prayers are appreciated that nothing serious is going on!

The hubby is on daylight this week so I'll get to see him in the evening/night.  We need to get in his closet to see if his suit fits him for the wedding.  He bought and wore it to escort Kaylee to the Fall Foliage Queen Festival her junior year of high school and it hasn't seen the light of day since!  The hubby is NOT at all the "dressy" sort.  Jeans and t-shirts are his everyday attire and Sundays are khakis and a polo shirt.  I know we'll have to buy him a pair of shoes at the very least.

Saturday we have birthday party to attend for a little girl in our Church.  Layna Bee will be 2 years old and is the sweetest little thing.  Every weekend this summer is booked until after the wedding!

Currently reading:

I decided to start a new book hoping that it will get me out of my reading drought.  I really want to try to read at least a bit each day but so far this week has been a bust and I haven't even touched my Kindle.  Starting Monday, I'm going to really strive to read some before bed to relax instead of just falling onto my pillow and zoning out.  I picked "Hard Landing" by Edie James to try to read this week.

On the TV:

Hot Mess House

Laken is pining to see the new "Black Widow" movie but we just didn't have time this weekend to sit down and watch it.  I'm hoping maybe this Friday to purchase it on Disney+ and sit down for a Family Movie Night.

Listening to:

This week I featured Stand In Faith by Danny Gokey on Songs on Sunday.  I hope you'll check it out :)

On the menu week:

Not done yet :(

Monday ~
Tuesday ~
Wednesday ~
Thursday ~
Friday ~
Saturday ~
Sunday ~ Potluck at Church

In the Craft Basket:

I have been hooking away on Kaylee and Shawn's Afghan all week which is another reason I haven't taken time to read.  I finished all the squares, tied in all the ends and got the squares crocheted together.  I'm gong to be crocheting a total of 11 rounds of border.  I have 2 rounds finished.  I wanted to get it down by the Bridal Shower, but now my goal is the Wedding.  34 days.  It can be done :)

Picture from the Camera

Friday evening, we had a Church outing to the local AAA baseball field, the Altoona Curve.  Dex and Laken got along really well and we had a great time.  That is "Aunt Kelly"  (my SIL) photobombing in the back!  She is so much fun!

Memory Verse

" ‘Oh, Lord God! Behold, You Yourself have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You,"  Jeremiah 32:17

Have a great Monday!

Thursday (Tuesday) 4 ~ Blogging ~ 7/8/2021

https://mytuesday4meme.blogspot.com/

Head over to Tuesday's Place for the questions and to visit everyone's answers!

This week the questions were supplied by Pamela Steiner... Here we go, let's talk about Blogging!

1.  Tell us about your blog.  When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in February 2009.  So about 12.5 years ago.  My very first post was about how I deleted my first post!  Ridiculous so I'm not counting that post.  Therefore, my first post was showing some of my quilting endeavors.  If you're interested you can see it HERE.

2.  What prompted you to begin blogging?

I was a young stay-at-home-mom and really needed a creative outlet and feeling of community.  I saw a link to someone's blog on a quilting forum and thought "Hey!  I can do that, too!"

3.  What was your first blog about and why did you choose that subject/title?

Colletta's Kitchen Sink was my very first blog and the one I've continued all these years.  I've played around with starting a few other blogs but they just didn't stick like this one has.

I chose the name "Colletta's Kitchen Sink" because I knew my blog would be about a little bit of everything.  Even the Kitchen Sink.

4.  How has your blog changed over time, and has it done for you what you hoped it would do in the first place?

My blog has evolved over time as my interests have changed.  It has become such a part of my life that I always come back to it even though I've taken many "breaks".  I'm always drawn back to the creativity it provides.  So, yes.  It has done for me what I hoped it would.

My Weekly Bookishness ~ 7/9/2021

All things bookish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I Read:
I have no excuse for not carrying out my summer commitment to read for at least 10 minutes a day.  I've been trying to keep up with my daily Bible reading but other than that I haven't taken the time to read at all.
Other things in life have just taken precedence.  I'm making no promises that I'll have anything new to report next Friday, but I miss participating in the bookish link-ups.  To give myself a kick in the pants, I'm going to start a new book and see if that can get me to read a bit each day.
~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

Two wary souls get a second chance at love…if a killer doesn’t find them first.

When a stalker turns to murder, pilot Kelli Spencer needs protection. What she doesn’t need is her old love Jack Reese returning to stir things up, but the former Navy SEAL and his team of protection specialists are the best of the best. Trust him with her life? If she has to. Her heart? No way.
The last time Jack left, he made it clear married life held no appeal. Ten years later, he wastes no time letting her know he hasn’t changed. Not that she’d be fool enough to hope.

As the commander of Knight Tactical, Jack jumps at the chance to protect Kelli and take down a killer, but as soon as she’s safe, he plans to shake the dust of the small mountain town off his feet again…until he realizes he never should have left the first time.

Can he convince Kelli to give him another chance, or will a devious killer destroy his plans for a happily ever after?

Welcome to Hope Landing, a small town full of big secrets…and deadly lies.

First Lines:

IT'S NOTHING.

Mouth open in shock, Kelli Spencer stared at the footprints along the side of her garage.

56%/Page 56

Kelli and her crew were going down.  Sooner rather than later.

What I'll (Probably) Read Next:

Blurb:

Kaely Quinn's talents as an FBI behavior analyst are impossible to ignore, no matter how unorthodox her methods. But when a reporter outs her as the daughter of an infamous serial killer, she's demoted to field agent and transferred to St. Louis.

When the same reporter who ruined her career claims to have received an anonymous poem predicting a string of murders, ending with Kaely's, the reporter's ulterior motives bring his claim into question. What I Can't Wait To Read:

Blurb:

When Meg Whitaker's father decides to sell the family's lobster-fishing business to her high school nemesis, she sets out to prove she should inherit it instead. Though she's never had any interest in running the small fleet--or even getting on a boat due to her persistent seasickness--she can't stand to see Oliver Ross take over. Not when he ruined her dreams for a science scholarship and an Ivy League education ten years ago.

Oliver isn't proud of what he did back then. Angry and broken by his father walking out on his family, he lashed out at Meg--an innocent bystander. But owning a respected fishing fleet on Prince Edward Island is the opportunity of a lifetime, and he's not about to walk away just because Meg wants him to.

Meg's father has the perfect solution: Oliver and Meg must work the business together, and at the end of the season, he'll decide who gets it. Along the way, they may discover that their stories are more similar than they thought . . . and their dreams aren't what they expected.

Book Haul:

Book Blogger Hop:

Q.  Where do you post your reviews? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

A.  If you read my entire post, you'll have learned that I haven't been reading OR reviewing anything lately.

But when I do read and finish a book, I will definitely write a review here on my blog.  Other than that I like to leave a short blurb of a review on Goodreads when I rate the book.
