Some More Dish and Teacup Finds

I just love browsing the shelves at Goodwill, never knowing what I might find.

It is like a treasure quest, especially if there are other people there looking and I feel like I have to scope out the good stuff before they snap it up!

Here are a few items I found on such a quest:

I really was drawn to this tureen.  I didn't have any and I just loved the scalloped design.  I think it was only $2.99.

This teacup and saucer spoke to me.  There it was sitting by its lonely self saying, "Pick me, pick me."  I replied, "Sure.  For $.99 you can come home with me!"

When I saw this rose pattern, I just had to have it.  The teacup and saucer are in perfect condition.  The previous owner put some kind of goopy, green stuff under the teacup to attach it to the saucer.  Surgery was performed and they are now separate entities.  This set was $1.99.

I haven't allowed myself to go into either of the local Goodwills for a few weeks and I'm going through withdraws.  There is definitely a stop planned for my day out.

"Just Peachy" Recipe & Tea Set

I came across this Peach Tea Set at Goodwill for $2.99!  Isn't it adorable?  They are more of a "mug" than a teacup, but I like them just the same.

I love the bright colors and the shape.  Even the texture is glossy smooth.

I found a recipe that I think would be perfect to serve with tea in my Peach Tea Set.  I haven't had a chance to make it yet.  Mostly because I haven't gotten any fresh peaches yet.  I hope I haven't waited too long!

Peach Shortbread

1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 3/4 cups plus 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup ( 2 sticks) cold butter
1 large egg
2 peaches, pitted and thinly sliced (approx. 1/8"-1/4" thick)

Brown your butter:  Melt butter in a small/medium saucepan over medium-low heat.  It will melt, then foam, then turn clear golden and finally start to turn brown and smell nutty.  Stir frequently, scraping any bits from the bottom as you do.  Keep your eyes on it; it burns very quickly after it browns.  Set it in the freezer until solid (approx. 30 minutes).

Preheat oven to 375.  Butter a 9X13 inch pan, or spray it with a nonstick spray.

In a medium bowl, stir together sugar, baking powder, flour salt and spices with a whisk.

Using a pastry blender or fork, blend the solidified brown butter and egg in to the flour mixture.  It will be crumbly.

Pat 3/4 of the crumbs into the bottom of the prepared pan pressing firmly.

Tile peach slices over crum base in a single layer.  Scatter remaining crumbs evenly over peaches.

Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, until top is slightly brown and you can see a little color around the edges.

Cool completely in pan before cutting into squares.

If anyone tries this recipe, let me know.  Hopefully I'll get to make this soon and enjoy it with some tea in my cute peachy mugs.

Bavaria Tirschenreuth "Dogwood"

I was browsing through teacups and saucers on Ebay a few months ago and found a 49 piece set of Bavaria Tirschenreuth china in the pattern "Dogwood".  I instantly loved the delicate pattern.  They were from the estate of the seller's grandmother.

Unfortunately, by the time they made it to my doorstep, only 35 pieces survived.  I got such a deal on them thought that it was still well worth the price.  I was heartbroken though.

As I said, I was orginially looking at teacups and saucers.  Here is the set.  Isn't it gorgeous?

I love the inside as well as the outside.  So delicate.

Each setting contains 7 pieces.  Dinner plate, soup bowl, bread plate, salad plate, dessert bowl, teacup, and saucer.

The stamp on the back.  I find it so interesting.

I'm very happy with my Ebay find.  I can't say my husband is quite as joyful.  I'm running out of room!

Donut/M&M Teatime

A few days ago, my mom was dropped by and we needed a cup of tea. I didn't have anything homemade at the time, but we did have some store bought glazed donuts. That worked!

I found these two mugs and plate at Goodwill for $1.99 for the set. I was drawn to them so I snagged them up.
One side of the mug has a bird house. So cute!

The other side has a flower box.

I also got out the ceramic teaspoons that I won on ebay. I got six of these adorable spoons for $5.99. I was so excited when I won!

Pretty little flowers decorate the spoons.

This is my beeeautiful mommy! Check out the ponytail holder on her wrist. She was playing dress-up with the girls.

Laken had to get in on the action. She pulled out her tiny little teaset and served us.
Can it get any better than tea and chocolate? She came up with the M&M idea all by herself. That's my girl!

And that was our "Donut/M&M Teatime". You should try it.

Better Than Crack Brownies and Tea on the Deck

I found the recipe for "Better Than Crack Brownies" at How Sweet It Is. I made them for a Church get-together but my mom and I had to to try them out to make sure they were "OK". hehe (Recipe below.)

It was a nice cool day, so we had teatime on the deck. The tea was definitely needed because these Brownies are so rich. They were extremely delicious! You can see that my mom drinks her tea plain and I use milk and sugar in mine.

I found this teapot, tea cups and saucers while on our Niagra Falls vacation. I came across them at Gordie Harpers Bazaar in Newfane, NY. I could get lost in that place. So many things to look at and buy.

I love this pattern. I have a fondness for roses and this set is so simple and delicate. Thank you, Laura at Laura's Rose Garden for letting me know the name of this pattern is "Moss Rose". I was wondering how I would find out.

Better Than Crack Brownies

1 batch brownies (boxed mix or homemade)

1/2 cup salted peanuts

1 cup chopped Reese's peanut butter cups

1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter

1/2 Tablespoon butter

1 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Mix brownies according to directions and bake for 20-25 minutes in a 9 X 13 baking dish. Remove and top with peanuts and peanut butter cups. Bake for 4-6 minutes more.

While they are finishing baking, melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Stir in cereal. Remove brownies from oven and evenly spread chocolate mixture over tope.

Refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

This recipe is easy and fun to make. They are a must try. Yummy!
