The first few days of our Florida trip, we spent at my Aunt Mary's in Daytona Beach.  We had 1 day to go to the beach.  I really just wanted my Mom and the girls to see the ocean.  Mission accomplished.

Then we drove the rest of the way down the Ponce Inlet to the Ponce De Leon Lighthouse.  (I had been there before on a previous trip and climbed all 203 steps to the top of the lightouse.  I even walked around on the deck.  It was amazing.  This time I stayed on ground level with Laken while the others climbed.)

We had to get our tickets for the tour by going through the gift shop.  We decided we would look around the shop on our way out.  As we walked out, there was a set of stairs directly to the right.

Lo and behold there was a kitty.  It seems like every vacation we take, we spend the whole time spotting animals.  I think because we miss our own while we are away.

On the way back in, the kitty was relaxing, sprawled out on the steps.

While looking through the gift shop for a few souveniers, you will never guess what I found.  So I'll show you.

Apparently this cat that I was thought was just ordinary is actually a celebrity with her own book!  Imagine that!

"Nelly, The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Cat" written by Stephanie Szerdy and illustrated by Nathan Szerdy.

The book was beautifully written and the artwork was amazing.  I wish I had bought it.  I might still yet.  You can click on the book or down on the title to go to the Lighthouse shop where you can purchase it.

One kitty, such an awesome memory!

We got back from our almost-two-week vacation last night at about 12:30am.  We were so excited to see the hounds and they were extremely excited to see us.

I'm sure they thought we had abandoned them forever!

Here is just a simple picture of Lilah and Jamine in the yard with the girl.  It was taken a while ago.

I look forward to sharing some critter pictures we took while on vacation.  Stay tuned :)

School is officially out for summer at our house!

My Mom has been doing a pre-k curriculum with Laken two days a week.  One day at her house, one day at ours.  On the day Mom comes down, Jas does  school-work with Laken.

Jas has her pretty school dress on and a comfy spot to sit.

She got a little bit distracted by my picture taking :)

It must have been hard work because it looks like Jas is ready for a nap.  Apparently a bunny came to school that day, too.

This fall, Laken will go to Kindergarten and it will just be me and the hounds home during the day.  I don't know how to feel about this.  I guess I'll find out...

Why do dogs doo it?  (pun intended :)  Why do they find something particularly nasty outside and then roll in it?

Lilah came in from playing in the yard and at first we couldn't figure out what the smell was.  Then I saw her back!  Gross!  I tried to get her to go back outside but this is where she ended up.

She hid under the table!  And would not come out!  I didn't yell at her but I guess all our "What is THAT?" , and "What stinks?" made her feel a little shy.  Dare I say, ashamed?

Needless to say, she wasn't allowed to rest in any of her favorite spots, ie the couch or my bed, until she got cleaned up.

At least she didn't get sprayed by a skunk.  I guess I should be thankful...

We got Jas as a pup and have had her for almost a year.  Technically, we say that she was Doug's Father's Day present but he doesn't always want to claim her.  It depends on if she's been bad or not.  Then he says she's MY dog.

Naming her was a familly event.  We would go around the house and shout out names as they came to mind.  Any member of the family could shoot down the name if they didn't like it.

We finally settled on "Jasmine Belle".  Most of you will get the reference but for those that aren't into Disney (shame on you!), Jasmine was the princess on "Aladdin" and Belle is the pseudo-princess on "Beauty and the Beast."

Here is Princess Jasmine Belle in all her finery!  It can be tricky getting her to hold still.  Kaylee had to "help" her out a little.

Only 16 days until our Disney Vacation and we get to see the "real" Jasmine and Belle!

The other week when I showed Lilah at the door watching Daddy mow, someone asked me where her face was :)

Well, here it is!  Framed in a pink pool tube.  lol  My younget thinks it is funny to give Lilah a pink necklace.  It kind of reminds me of a circus dog.

Lilah is so gentle that she will let the kids do anything to her.  Just look at those eyes.  She has the kindest eyes I've ever seen on a dog.

She's my good Girlie :)

It is Kaylee's job to give Jasmine her bath and Laken is the assistant.  One evening, I asked them to give her a bath and they readily agreed.  The three of them went in the bathroom and shut the door.  Scary.

About 10 minutes later, the door opens and out zips Jas.  She always rips and tears through the whole house like something is chasing her.  It is absolutely hilarious.  We just stand back out of the way and watch.

Inevitably, she'll end up on MY bed rolling and flip-flopping all over the place trying to get dry.

All over my freshly washed quilt....

At least she wasn't muddy.

This is Delilah (aka Lilah, Girlie etc.) our Black Lab.

Daddy was out in the front yard mowing the grass.  She stood there at the window watching him go back and forth.

You could tell everytime Daddy came near the door.

Her tail wagged the whole time :)

Lilah Loves Her Daddy!

From the time we first started taking Kaylee fishing, she would always pick out a single worm to be her "pet" for the entire trip.  Friday's evening of fishing was no different.

Please meet Billy Bob.  Oh yes, she names them!  He's a tiny little fellow.

The next thing I knew, she was making him a "habitat".  Where does she get this stuff?  Oh yeah.  School.  Many thanks to her science teacher for actually getting knowledge to stick :)

All the fisher-persons (hehe) knew that Billy Bob was off limits as bait.  For some reason, Kaylee was especially afraid that Pappy might take off with Billy Bob.  Who knows....

My kid that plays with worms.  I won't even touch them!

This is Jasmine, our York-a-Pom.  That is also our front porch that REALLY needs a new coat of paint!

Here is Super-Jasmine leaping into the air.  I had the top window down on the door and she was jumping up at me to let me know she wanted in.

This dog can JUMP!  It is quite amazing for such a little dog.

This pictures shows Buford, a Doberman rescue pup that we nursed back to health.  It was the first I'd ever seen a fawn colored Doberman.   He loved attention and snuggling.

Here he is taking a nap with my 5 year old.  He loved to be able to feel a body next to him as he slept and so does Laken.  They made a good pair :)

After we made sure he was healthy and growing, we found him a good home with a family who was sure to love him as much as we did.  It was hard to say goodbye, but it was time.
