My Weekly Bookishness ~ 3/25/2022

All things bookish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I Read:
Review to come soon!
~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

One decision changed his life.

Nathan Hollister nearly died in a war zone and the experience made one thing crystal clear—breaking off his engagement was a terrible mistake. He arrives at his ex’s ranch to make amends, but gunfire erupts before he can.

Someone wants her dead.

Cassie Miles is used to being abandoned, first by her mother and then Nathan. But when an attempt is made on her life, she can’t protect herself and the horses she’s rehabilitating. Accepting Nathan’s help is the only answer.

A hazardous mission.

Nathan won’t let anyone harm Cassie. Convincing her to give him a second chance, however, is impossible. As the danger creeps closer, the risk heightens. One critical error could cost Nathan everything…again.

First Lines:

"We have a problem."

56%/Page 56

"Don't move," Nathan commanded, lifting his weapon.

What I'll (Probably) Read Next:

Blurb:

First Lieutenant Peter Marshall has never felt as safe and whole as he does at Three Rivers Ranch. With massive scars covering most of his upper body, he's self-conscious and searching for his life's purpose. He thinks he's found it in Courage Reins, an equine therapy program for veterans he's starting out at the ranch. He didn't plan on the beautiful Chelsea Ackerman looking at his deformities with admiration.

After her second failed engagement, Chelsea vows she'll never wear another diamond ring. But as she and Pete work together to train the horses and launch Courage Reins, she heals faster than she thought possible. Pete has a truckload of debt and no way to provide for a family, but Chelsea helps him see past all the obstacles, all the scars. With so many unknowns, Pete and Chelsea will have to develop the love, acceptance, and faith needed to find their happily ever after.

Tea Time ~ 3/24/2022

Grab a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or your favorite drink
while I share a few things about my life lately...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~It is my BIRTHDAY!!!!  Happy 44th Birthday to me :)
~I am so glad that it is officially SPRING!  I had been having some serious spring/cabin fever and was really glad to be able to get out and go for a few walks this past week.  Yesterday it rained and it is supposed to rain all day today but I won't let it get to me :)  The sun will come back out and it will get warm again :)
~I got this super cute picture of the hubby and Kona resting.  It is hilarious how she will rest her head on his shoulder and put her paw across his stomach, just like a person snuggling.  In this picture you can see Kona's poor nose.  She must have gotten stung on the snout by a bee and we have had an awful time keeping her from itching it.  This picture was a few days ago and it IS starting to heal.  For a while, we thought we might have to get her a Cone of Shame.
~About 40 people from our Church went bowling Saturday afternoon.  We had such a good time hanging out together.  Laken and Damon are cousins but also the best of buds.  This is their "silly" picture :)
~Kona and Lilah got their new bandanas today.  Out with the St. Patty's bandanas and in with the bunny bandanas.  You can't really see the pattern on the fabric very well, but it is so cute!  Kona loves wearing bandanas and gets upset when you take it off of her.  Lilah couldn't care less.
~Flynn and Clover had their vet checks Tuesday.  They've each gained 1 lb which is great as they were so very tiny!  The vet, Dr. Amber, said they are looking good.  They got their first vaccines and go back in 3 weeks for their booster.  Both kittens, but especially Clover, love to lay on the dog bed with both Kona and Lilah.  They are getting more personality and have these spurts of energy where they rip and tear through the house chasing each other!  So fun to watch them play and grow :)
~This week we added to our family...again!  12 chicks!!!!  The hubby, Kaylee, Laken and I went to Tractor Supply and bought our very first chickens!!  I think we might be crazy!  Kaylee and Laken have wanted chicks FOREVER but the time was never right.  I don't really know why the time was right this time, but it is.  The girls are SO excited!  Laken called dibs to holding the chick box on the ride home.  They are so cute and growing like weeds.  I would say they've doubled in size since we got them a week ago.  Now the hubby needs to get to building the chicken coop!
How was your week?
Weekly Weigh In ~ 3/23/2022
Once again (for the bazillionth time), I'm starting on a weight loss journey.
My first mini-goal is to get below 280 lbs.  I'm giving myself a deadline of June 3, 2022 as that is my next doctor's appointment.  Yikes!  No pressure!
I'll be weighing in on Mondays and posting my results on Wednesday.  If you'd like to join in on the journey, I'd love to have some weight loss friends and support!
Feel free to use the "Weekly Weigh In" graphic and create your own post with as much (or as little) info as you are comfortable sharing and leave a link in the comments.  Or you can just report your results in the comments.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Dad has been put on a strict diet by his doctor due to Diabetes and High Blood Pressure.  They set his first goal at 30lbs lost.  I'm hoping that we can encourage each other on this journey.

We're going to be using his diabetic scale to weigh in so that I can quit fighting on a daily basis with my cheapie digital scale!

Next week, I plan on letting you know what exercise I've done and also the number of days I've tracked my food using LoseIT! and stayed within my calorie range.

Weigh in #2:

Highest Weight ~ 297.0 lbs

Last Week's Weight ~ 3/14/2022 ~ 295.4 lbs.

This Week's Weight ~ 3/21/2022 ~ 294.0 lbs.

This Week's Total:   -1.4 lbs.

Grand Total: -3.0 lbs

Please let me know in the comments if you are on your own weight loss journey!  I'd love to follow along :)

Happy Homemaker Monday ~ 3/21/2022

Come join Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello, and Happy Monday!
The weather outside is:
We made it!  It is officially SPRING!!!  Even though Sunday was a bit chilly, the week ahead doesn't look too bad :)
On today's to-do list:
Laken has a check-in with her primary care doctor in the morning and then I'll be spending the day cleaning.  We had a very busy weekend so not much got done.
Happening this week:
Tuesday, the kittens have their next vet appointment.  I'm anxious to see what they weigh.  I can definitely tell they've grown!  They are so funny to watch and are SOOO fast :)
Wednesday, the next installment of the Sweet Dreams quilt block pattern will be coming out!
Thursday is my 44th BIRTHDAY!!!  Whoohoo!!!  I've been celebrating all month-long :)
Friday should be a nice, normal day of getting groceries and preparing for the weekend with family.
Saturday is Family Day.  I'm in the mood for a Family Movie Night but don't know what we should watch.  Any suggestions?
This past week I worked on the "Sweet Dreams" sew along by Pat Sloan at www.ilovetomakequilts.com .  I finished block 10 (actually a border) called Pastries.  I also have been working on hand quilting Mom's Blue and White Quilt.  I also have started sewing my Pioneer Woman Charm Squares into 9 patches.
Sewing Saturday (on Sunday) ~ 3/20/2022
I'm going to be featuring my sewing, crocheting and crafting projects on Saturdays.  Some weeks this will include a finished project, a FNSI or FNWF or just a WIP.
~~~~~~~~

I'm going to try to sew at least one block a week in the Pat Sloan sew-along called "Sweet Dreams". I'm using the fabrics below:

~~~~~~~~~~
The 10th Block  of the Sweet Dreams Sew Along is actually a border called:  Pastries.
The week before I accidentally misunderstood and thought we were to put the outside borders on.  The inside dark gray border was fine but the outer light border was not.  Needless to say, I had a date with my seem ripper.
The border that was supposed to be put on was actually a pieced flying geese border.  I debated leaving the light gray and just moving on but I just couldn't!
I am so happy with how it turned out and so glad I took the time to rip off the light gray border and replace it with what the pattern intended.
My favorite pastry is a Cinnamon Roll with Peanut Butter Icing!  Yummm...
You can find the patterns at www.ilovetomakequilts.com .
My Weekly Bookishness ~ 3/18/2022
All things bookish!
What I Read:
You can read my REVIEW HERE!
~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

It's first the story of two women in the 1980s, of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale she tells is also of two women-of the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth, who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder.

First Lines:

December 15, 1985

Evelyn Couch had come to Rose Terrace with her husband, Ed, who was visiting his mother, Big Momma, a recent but reluctant arrival.

56%/Page 56

As she gathered her purse with shaky hands and pounding heart, the others looked at her in sympathy, and one woman touched her arm; but they were secretly relieved that it had not been them.

Q.   Do you think listening to an audiobook instead of reading the print version makes it more difficult to write a review? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

A.  I can't really answer as I've never listened to an audiobook.
