Series:  Bluestar Island Book #1
Pages:  287
Date Published:  April 13, 2021

 Blurb:

He’s an injured firefighter. She bakes the most delightful treats. When their worlds collide will the baker help heal the firefighter with a mix of blueberry muffins and her caring way?

The elegant baker, Hannah Bell, has always lived on Bluestar Island with her family. While still grieving for her father, who died in a fire, she focuses all of her energy on making her dream come true—opening her very own bakery. But when a broken water pipe washes away her carefully laid plans, she’s on the verge of losing everything.

New York firefighter Ethan Walker’s life is in a tailspin after he’s injured on-the-job. When an urgent call detours him to Bluestar Island, he agrees to help his lovable but meddlesome great-aunt. But organizing the island’s Spring Fling proves a lot harder than he originally imagined. He needs help…and fast.

Under the magic of Bluestar Island’s sea breeze and warm sunshine, Hannah and Ethan must not only face their immediate obstacles but also their own turning points in life. Will they have to do that alone? With a leap of faith and a dash of romance, they might just find the perfect mix to make their dreams come true.

My Thoughts:

This was a sweet book that read a lot like a Hallmark movie.  Big city guy goes to help his family.  Small town girl couldn't imagine living anywhere else.  Sigh...  I love Hallmark movies :)

Ethan, the male main character, was a firefighter but was questioning his future in the firefighting career.  He had scars that were physical and emotional that he had to work through.

The female main character, Hannah, who was a baker had her own emotional scars and tragedies.  I loved how her character evolved throughout the course of the book.

Perhaps my favorite characters were Aunt Birdie and Peaches.  I hope to see more of them in future books.

I loved the setting of Bluestar Island.  Everyone knew each other's business just like my small town :)  I loved that cars weren't allowed on the island except for special reasons and that traveling consisted of walking, bikes and golf carts.

There were themes of forgiveness, facing fears and family in the book.

Jennifer Faye is a new-to-me author but I look forward to continuing the Bluestar Island series.

This book is a CLEAN, contemporary romance.

I had downloaded this book from Amazon for free on my Kindle a while ago and finally got a chance to read it.

Onto the next book :)

I read this book while partaking in 3 readathons:

Book Review ~ Waterfall by Linda K. Rodante ~ 10/2/2024

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blurb:
If you love a good whodunit and romance...
A dead body, a flood, and a boy’s rescue. Can Annalisa Carabelle keep the boy safe while racing to discover a killer before it's too late?
All Annalisa Carabelle wants is a successful summer season for the bed-and-breakfast she co-owns. She never expected the flood, the boy who needed rescuing, or the man who came from nowhere to help. The dead body? Well, the wound to the head proved it had nothing to do with do with the deluge.
Richard Jordan’s plans for the summer include as much scrambling up waterfalls as possible. He needs the adrenaline rush because life has proven routine, even pointless. But both the woman and the boy called him a hero, and maybe the dead body is a wake-up call. Life might be worth living if he and this intriguing woman can find the killer and make sure he doesn’t kill again.
But they’ve got too many suspects, and even the police are baffled. With the family protecting the killer, he might just get away for good, unless they force his hand—and stay alive while they are doing it.
My Thoughts:
*****
Blindsided.  I was blindsided by the twist in this suspenseful, mystery.  I had absolutely no idea which direction Linda K. Rodante was going to take this story.  That doesn't happen often and it was the absolute BEST!
Flooding.  Rescues.  Murder.  Romance.  Angst.  Bed & Breakfast.  Firefighter.  This book had it ALL!  In the best possible way imaginable.
What I think I liked most of all, though, was the faith aspect in Annalisa's character.  I could "see" her influence whittling away at Richard's unbelief but loved how the author made the romance about loving God and not just loving Annalisa.
I love waterfalls and the descriptions of the trails and the falls were amazing.  I could almost hear the roar of the falling waters and feel the drops on my face!
I look forward to reading many more books by this author :)
I am very excited and thankful to review this book today!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
An epic finale.
Her new partner, Detective Romeo Alvarez, was there the day of the biggest correction, but despite his assertions, that doesn’t mean they’re forever connected. My Thoughts:
Wow!  Just, wow!
I always try to write my reviews as soon as I've finished a book so I can get my thoughts down while they are fresh in my mind.  Well, I just finished reading Inferno and I'm still reeling from all the action that took place, especially in the last few chapters!
I even stayed up past my bedtime to finish reading and find out for certain who the arsonist was.  I had my suspicions towards the end after a few clues were hinted at but I had to have them confirmed before I stopped reading for the night.
The characters were well-written and very relatable.  Julio and Samantha had a history which the author explained wonderfully and had me routing for them from beginning to end.  Even the secondary characters were fun!  I do hope to revisit Bristol and Romeo at some point in the future.
This is the 9th book in the Benson First Responders series.  There were mentions of characters from previous books but this was a very good stand-alone read.  I do want to go read more of this series now, though!
I am very excited and thankful to review this book today!
