Tea Time ~ A Cottage and a Bear ~ 6/29/18

~We rented a cottage at Shawnee State Park for two nights in the beginning of the week!  It has been 2 long, busy years since we had camped and it felt glorious!

~We saw a bear!  A Big, Big, Big BEAR!  I was standing on the porch of the cottage and looked over to my left and there he was!  As big as could be!  The park ranger said that there have been a male, female and 2 cubs wondering around the park.  I think we saw the male :)  Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture :(

~Laken had her first Summer Reading Program day on Monday before we went to the cottage!  She loved it!  I was afraid she'd be shy but she jumped right in and even made a new friend that will be in her class when she changes schools in the Fall.  My plan all along ;)

~Damon is staying with us for a few days while my cousin Steph and the rest of her family go to Kings Dominion!  They dropped him off with us on Thursday morning and so far, so good!  He even slept all night for me :)

~My cousin's Fiancé is having a Bridal Shower Sunday afternoon!  You might have read about it before on my Work in Progress posts.  I have the gift, an afghan, completed.  I just need to wash it and throw it in the dryer.  I love showers :)

Work In Progress & Finish Off ~ 6/13/18

 

 

I did it!

I finished "Ashley's Afghan" with 2 and 1/2 weeks to spare until the Bridal Shower!  Big sigh of relief over here!

Here is where I was on my last Work In Progress post.

I was so close, yet so far away from being done with the border and not at all sure that I was liking it.

Now, here is the finished product (don't mind the messy pillows in the background :) :

The cream edging really pulled it all together and I LIKE IT! 

Again, big sigh of RELIEF!   :) :)

On to the next project!

Work in Progress ~ 6/6/18

 

 

"Ashley's Afghan" has come a long way from my last Work in Progress post.  Here is where I was on May 16th, still working on the blocks:

 

 

 

And here is my progress of now:

 

You can see that the blocks are completed and I'm working on the border.

I'm not completely sure how I'm feeling about it :(

I still have three colors to go around the perimeter with. Then a row of cream and then ending with another row of cream shells.

 

I'm hoping by the end it will all pull together and look the way I want it to.  Otherwise, I'll be very disappointed...

Work In Progress ~ 5/16/18

 

 

I've been enjoying sitting on my little deck and working on Ashley's Afghan.

Here's where I was at last week:
 

 

 I've made great progress and have completed just about 5 and 1/2 rows.

 

It is getting a bit harder to fit the whole afghan in one picture without getting a chair to stand on and taking a picture from above.

I've been sticking to my word and tying in ends after each row. 

 

Being over half way finished with the main body of this afghan feels great!  I need to have it finished by June 30th for the Bridal Shower.

I'm also excited to say that I think I'm going to have enough yarn to complete the project!  Whohoo!

Work in Progress ~ 5/9/18

 

 

I mentioned the other week that I'm working on an afghan for my cousin's bride-to-be, Ashley.  I've only met her once, but she is very friendly and plays a mean game of Corn Hole.

 

The Bridal Shower is July 2nd and I have a lot of work to get done by then.

Here's my progress so far:

 

 

Each row has 9 squares, therefore, I have 31 squares completed out of 90!  I better get moving!

 

 

I'm crocheting simple granny squares and joining them with a single crochet stitch.

Here's my "helper", Star.  I haven't decided if she more of a hindrance than a help, but she keeps me company while crocheting on the deck.

Speaking of crocheting on the deck, here is my little "Nook".  I absolutely love my little deck with my swing and patio table and chairs!

 Here's my little workplace.

The deck gets full sun in the afternoon, so the umbrella is a definite need.

 So, back to the Ashley's Afghan.  There will be 10 rows of 9 squares and then borders depending on what yarn I have left.  There are a variety of colors and I love it!  I hope I can give it up come July! 

I'm really enjoying working on this afghan.  Some people think Granny Squares are old-fashioned, but I love making them and think it is so relaxing.  The only bad thing about Granny Squares are tying in the ends, but I'm trying to be good and am tying in ends after each row and then connecting them.

I'll be keeping you updated on my progress.
