My Weekly Bookishness ~ 6/3/2022

All things bookish!

What I Read:
~~~~~~~~~~
What I'm Reading:
Kindred Readers Book Club July 2022 Selection:
Blurb:
When Eva's film star sister Katrina dies, she leaves California and returns to Cornwall, where they spent their childhood summers, to scatter Katrina's ashes and in doing so return her to the place where she belongs. But Eva must also confront the ghosts from her own past, as well as those from a time long before her own. For the house where she so often stayed as a child is home not only to her old friends the Halletts, but also to the people who had lived there in the eighteenth century.
When Eva finally accepts that she is able to slip between centuries and see and talk to the inhabitants from hundreds of years ago, she soon finds herself falling for Daniel Butler, a man who lived - and died - long before she herself was born. Eva begins to question her place in the present, and in laying her sister to rest, comes to realise that she too must decide where she really belongs, choosing between the life she knows and the past she feels so drawn towards.
First Lines:
"It's a rotten time to lose someone, when all the world is dying too and darkness comes on earlier, and when the chill rains fall it seems the very sky is weeping."
56%/Page 56
"Something crashed through the ferns at my side and my heart jumped straight into my throat, beating hard."
What I'll (Probably) Read Next:
Kindred Readers Book Club August 2022 Selection:
Blurb:
California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.
Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.
Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything, Michael Hosea obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance her frozen heart begins to thaw.
But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she can no longer deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael Hosea does…the One who will never let her go.
A life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.
Book Blogger Hop:
Q.  What is your method for writing reviews - do you write immediately after reading, wait a few days, or write as you are reading? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)
A.  I try to write my review immediately after finishing a book.  I could never wait a few days.  I would forget all my thoughts.  I've thought about writing as I read (so I could be more specific in details) but it hasn't happened yet.
  7. I'm pretty terrible about putting off my reviews to the point that they really pile up. Why do I keep doing the smae thing over and over? My quotes from The Island of Sea Women are here
  8. Happy Friday!
    I'm currently reading Turn to Me by Becky Wade. It's outstanding!
    "Immediately after Finley woke from her coma, Luke had promised her that she'd be ok. It was proving harder to convince himself of that."
    I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
  9. I write my review straight after I read. I used to do copious notes all the way through but I just don't have the time any more.
    Have a great weekend!
  10. Like you, I have to write a review with a day or two of finishing a book. I hope you enjoy all these books and have a great week ahead!
  11. That's quite a list. I'm not familiar with any of the books on the list, and not reading much these days.
  13. Saying hi from Stacking the Shelves - my first time here. You have a good looking blog. I'm also a "write the review right away" person; I want to try to capture whatever I really felt about the book at that time. My list: https://www.bookshelfjourneys.com/post/TBR-may-2022
  16. Furyborn was really good, but I haven't read on in that series. Your bit about how you write reviews is interesting. I'm basically the same. As I go along reading I do make notes on Goodreads though that can help me too! Have a great week!
  17. The Rose Garden has an interesting plot. It would be very strange to fall in love with someone in another time. It would be nice to be able to choose what time you live in.
    I write up a review immediately after I finish reading every book I read. Happily, I've been doing this for twenty years now.
  18. While The Rose Garden wasn't my favorite by the author, I did enjoy it and hope you do too. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
  20. I try to write my reviews within a couple of days. I sometimes (not always) make notes in a side file to help me remember thoughts I want to include.
    Furyborn looks interesting. Happy Reading!
  21. I can rarely write one just after reading, I'm too emotional when a book is complete.
