Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
whipped cream
Preheat oven to 350F and grease 13 X 9 baking pan.
Beat sugar and shortening with an electric mixer at medium speed; beat in eggs, applesauce and water.
Gradually add flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly.
Stir in walnuts.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for one hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Garnish with powdered sugar, whipped cream or cinnamon.

I LOVE applesauce cake!!! My mom used to make it for us in the fall ALL the time. I made my own applesauce for the first time last year and it made THE BEST applesauce cake!
