https://carolesrandomlife.blogspot.com/

Books from the Backlog hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.  If you are anything like me, you might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks.

This week's neglected book is:

 Dead Drift by Dani Pettrey

Publication Date:     July 3, 2018
Publisher: Bethany House

Blurb:

Will they and their love survive, or will Luke and Kate become the terrorist's next target?

Why did I add Dead Drift to my bookshelf?:

It is written by Dani Pettrey!  Enough said.

Really though, I've read the first 3 books of this series so I MUST finish the series!  This book hasn't been on my shelf for very long and it won't stay there long either :)

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

This week's neglected book is:

Gunpowder Tea by Margaret Brownley
Series: The Brides of Last Chance Ranch Book #3
Publication Date:     October 15, 2013
Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Blurb:

In a case that could change her career, Miranda uncovers a love that will change her life.

When Miranda Hunt sees the classified ad for an heiress to the legendary Last Chance Ranch, she knows assuming the identity of Annie Beckman is the perfect cover. As one of the finest agents for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Miranda has been tasked with apprehending the Phantom – an elusive and notorious train robber thought to be hiding on the sprawling ranch.

But she isn’t the only one there with something to hide. Wells Fargo detective Jeremy Taggert is working the scene undercover as well. And although their true identities are a secret, it is impossible for Jeremy and Miranda to hide the spark that flares between them.

But neither is about to let romance interfere with such a huge case. Besides, Miranda hasn’t removed Jeremy from her list of suspects yet. The closer they come to uncovering the identity of the Phantom, the more dangerous he gets – and no one on the ranch is safe.

But neither are their hearts – the longer Miranda and Jeremy spends working together, the harder it becomes to keep their feelings in check. Their careers – and their lives – depend on solving this case. Love will have to wait.

Why did I add Gunpowder Tea to my bookshelf?:

I would have to check but I think I've read the first two books of this series already. When I saw "Gunpowder Tea" at Ollie's for $3.99 I grabbed it!  I really love undercover stories and even better when it is the woman who is undercover!

While in San Diego to train community volunteers, Seth hopes to learn why Taylor is backing away from the crisis team and from their friendship. But nothing prepares him for the feelings that arise when he sees Taylor again . . . and sees her moving on with another man.

When a community crisis hits home and puts lives at risk, emotions run high and buried truths are unearthed. Will hope make the survival list?

Why did I add Step by Step to my bookshelf?:

Last week's featured book was the first book in the Crisis Team series.  I realized I also have the second book of the series on my shelf!  I probably trying to collect the whole series before reading them.  I think I'll have to be moving the series up a notch in my reading list:)

Her motto is to “make it happen” in any situation life throws at her—even when she butts heads with an idealistic cop.

Deputy Fletcher Holt believes in a higher plan, the fair outcome—and his ability to handle that by himself if necessary. Now he’s been yanked from Houston, his mother is battling cancer, and he’s attracted to a strong-willed nurse who could be the target of a brutal sniper.

When everything goes wrong, where do they put their trust?

Inspired by the biblical story of Abigail in 1 Samuel, a Christian woman stands up for what is right, despite life-threatening consequences.

When Faith discovers that Roger has yet again failed to deliver critical winter supplies to Nathan Bartlett, owner of the nearby logging camp, she takes the order up the mountain herself. Furious, Roger confronts Faith when she returns, and she is knocked unconscious. When Faith wakes, she finds Roger dead in a pool of his own blood, and she soon stands accused of murder.

Having fought in the War Between the States, Nathan has seen enough violence to last a lifetime. He has always admired Faith's quiet strength and integrity and finds it hard to believe such a gentle woman capable of harming anyone. However, Nathan begins to struggle with his instinct to protect Faith when evidence mounts against her.

As more and more people begin to think Faith is guilty, only her trust in God can give her the hope she needs to survive this trial.

Series: Moonlighters #1
Publication Date:    February 12, 2013
Publisher: Zondervan

Blurb:

Cathy Cramer is a former lawyer and investigative blogger who writes commentary on local homicides. When she finds a threatening note warning her that she's about to experience the same kind of judgment and speculation that she dishes out in her blog, Cathy writes it off as mischief ... until her brother is caught in the middle of a murder investigation---the victim is his ex-wife.

As her brother is tried and convicted in the media, and bloggers and commentators like her have a field day, Cathy wonders if she should have taken the threat more seriously. Cathy and her two sisters, Holly and Juliet, moonlight as part-time private investigators, working to solve their brother's ex-wife's murder.

Juliet, a stay-at-home mom of two boys, and Holly, a scattered ne'er-do-well who drives a taxi, put aside their fear and lack of confidence to learn the art of investigation. But will it be too late to save their brother from a murder conviction, or his five-year-old son who's the killer's next target?

Why did I add Truth Stained Lies to my bookshelf:

I read a newer book by Terri Blackstock, If I Run, and loved it.  I decided to try one of her older books so I got my hands on a copy of Truth Stained Lies through paperbackswap.com.  After reading the blurb again with fresh eyes, I think it might be my next read!
