 Q.  Do the star ratings a book receives on Goodreads or retail sites affect whether you buy the book or not? (submitted by Flora @ Flora's Musings...)

 A.  I've never really thought about it but I guess it does.  When I'm out shopping, I don't look up ratings I just go by the blurb.  But when I'm shopping online, I do glance at the star ratings to see if other people found it worth buying/reading.

  2. I'm the opposite in that the star ratings don't tend to get much attention from me at all. I care more about what the reviewers say than what they rate.
I agree with just going off the cover/blurb if I'm in a book store though... I like to just wing it when I'm in there. :)

  4. Hi - that sounds like a book I would like. I do look at ratings and read reviews, then buy and read what I want to and what I think I will like. I look more to the reviews of people I know like the same kinds of books I do, like some of my blogging friends. :-) Have a good weekend!

    1. Yes, the review does depend if it is a like-minded reader for me. Good point! Have a great weekend!

  5. My first line is from chapter 6 of One Hundred Valleys by Bonnie Leon:
The Indians had kept moving, but Emmalin held on to the rifle.

  6. Happy Friday! My first line is from "Collateral Damage" by Lynette Eason:

"Sergeant First Class Asher James stared at Captain Phillip Newell, sure that he'd heard wrong."

  8. We attention to the ratings of books for book club selections. I just finished a book with a 4.59 rating on Goodreads with thousands of ratings. Highest I've seen.

  10. Happy Friday!
On my blog I'm sharing from Being Known by Robin Jones Gunn. It's such an EXCELLENT story. Currently, I'm reading Hadley Beckett's Next Dish by Bethany Turner. I'm just getting into chapter 2 so I'll share a line from there.
    "Meemaw? Are you home?"
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! πŸ™‚

  11. I really only look at the rating (and the review--because to me that's more important) when I am on the fence about a book or buying a book I haven't read as a gift for someone else.

I hope you have a good weekend. Stay safe and well.

  12. That's the best opening sentence this week! Any beginning that includes the word thunduration wins the prize. :)

  13. Thanks for answering my question. ;-)
Star ratings do play a part in my decision whether to buy a book or not but it's more about the reviews, thoughts and comments for me. I like the distinction between how you shop for books online and on the high street - there aren't star ratings in shops. πŸ’œπŸ˜Š
I hope you enjoy the rest of your week, stay safe and healthy.
