First Lines Friday, 56 and BBH ~ 3/6/20

Today's "First Lines" and "56" are from:

First Lines

New York City
1903

The amount of female attention her brother garnered never failed to amaze Lucy.  Even when he was wearing grubby coveralls and carrying a sack of plumber's tools, girls flocked around Nick as though he were Casanova.

It was about more than just restoring a crumbling old pile of rocks.  It was about the ninety people who lived on the estate and depended on him for their livelihood.  If marrying an heiress would save the three-hundred-year heritage of Whitefriars, it was what he needed to do.

 Q.  When did you first know you’re truly a bookworm? Did you lose sleep over a novel? (submitted by Kri @ The Tired Buyer)

 A.  I knew I was truly a bookworm the summer I turned 12 (maybe 13).  We made weekly trips "to town" and I was able to stop by the library.  I would check out 10-15 books and devour them by the next week.  If I couldn't go on one of the trips, I would send my wish list with my Mom so she could stop by the library for me.  I read ALL summer long and it was GLORIOUS!  I don't get to read nearly as much as I did then (responsibilities and all that) but that was when my love of reading started, especially historical romance :)

  1. I have been a reader for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite things to do in school was book reports. I enjoyed essays and research papers as well. I enjoyed doing the reading that was all part of that. I hated to do oral reports though as I was very shy.

  2. Happy Friday!

That's a very interesting opening sentence, and I'm now intrigued as to where the story is going to go from there.

On my blog this week I'm sharing the first line from Rachel Bloome's Puzzle Pieces:

"Elle Montgomery wanted nothing more than a cozy night in."

    Have a great weekend!

  4. My first line comes from The Blue Cloak by Shannon McNear
    June1,1797 Knox County, Tennessee
It was unbecoming to be jealous of a dear friend’s marriage.

I read another in that series by Elizabeth Camden. Now I need to read this one.

Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Promised by Leah Garriott: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/03/06/first-line-friday-126/. It’s such a good book. I’m currently reading When He Found Me by Victoria Bylin so I’ll share a line from there.
“Getting the apartment ready in twenty four hours took all the energy MJ could muster.”
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! ❤๐Ÿ“–
