Stacking the Shelves ~ 4/29/17

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week I added the following to my shelf:
Eden Christiansen never imagined her role as her younger brother Owen's cheerleader would keep her on the sidelines of her own life. Sure, it feels good to be needed, but looking after the reckless NHL rookie leaves little time for Eden to focus on her own career. She dreamed of making a name for herself as a reporter, but is stuck writing obits--and starting to fear she doesn't have the chops to land a major story. If only someone would step up to mentor Owen . . . but she knows better than to expect help from team veteran and bad-boy enforcer Jace Jacobsen.
Jace has built his career on the infamous reputation of his aggressive behavior--on and off the ice. Now at a crossroads about his future in hockey, that reputation has him trapped. And the guilt-trip he's getting from Eden Christiansen isn't making things any easier. But when Owen's carelessness leads to a career-threatening injury and Eden stumbles upon a story that could be her big break, she and Jace are thrown together . . . and begin to wonder if they belong on the same team after all.
Tea Time ~ A Wedding and Great Wolf ~ 4/28/17
Grab a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or your favorite drink
while I share a few things that made me smile this week :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I took about a 2 month Blogging Break.  Lots of great things have happened over that time period.  Here are some of the highlights:

~BIG NEWS!!!!!! My brother got MARRIED!  It was a VERY fast courtship of about 2 months.  I'm totally in love with my new SISTER-in-law, Kelly and her son - MY NEPHEW - Andrew.  I am over-the-moon happy for them both and super excited to finally be an official AUNT!!!

Kelly, Dan and Andrew

~Laken was asked to go along on Dan and Kelly's "honeymoon" to keep Andrew company.  They went to Great Wolf Lodge in Virginia.  Laken was so excited to go and although she called me every morning and every night, I don't think she missed me a lick!  She was having too much fun :)

~More on this later, but our Building Permits were approved for the addition!  Now the work begins...  Mom is calling it the "West Wing"  :)

~We had a fairly low-key, laid back Easter!  Kaylee, Laken and Andrew colored eggs on Saturday.  On Sunday we hade Church and Easter Dinner afterward.  At 2pm the Lions Club had an Egg Hunt for the community kids.  Kaylee was too old to participate but I think she was OK with that.  Laken and Andrew had fun trying to find the "prize" eggs.

~My 39th birthday has come and gone.  I'm officially in the last year of my 30's!  I, of course, celebrate for the entire month of March but on my actual birth"day", the family took my out to dinner at Cracker Barrel.  Love my Family :)

What made you smile this week?

Book Review ~ A Crafty Killing by Lorraine Barlett ~ 4/27/17

Blurb:

 The last thing Katie Bonner wanted was to become the manager of Artisans Alley. But when her business partner, Ezra Hilton, is found bludgeoned to death, she has no other choice. Business under Ezra has been faltering-but was it enough to provoke someone to murder? Only Katie can find the answer.

My Thoughts:

I'm loving cozies right now!  This book was so much fun to read.

I would love to comb through the Artisan Alley and look at all the vendors' wares.

I enjoyed getting to know Katie and some of the other vendors even though in the back of my mind I was trying to figure out who killed Ezra!

I really liked "watching" Katie put new ideas into place in an effort to bring some life back to the Alley and to Victoria Square.  It is a place I would like to visit and watch transform.

There are a few "unsavory" words that I'm not used to reading in my "inspirational" books, but nothing too horrible.

Do you like cozy mysteries?

Hodgepodge ~ 4/26/17

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/

Joyce's Hodgepodgey Questions:

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Has your April been filled with showers? Do you carry an umbrella, wear a slicker, or make a run for it? Besides rain, what else has filled your April?

It is raining as I type!  I usually have to make a run for it because all the umbrellas are in the car!  arghhh!!!

 2. What's something you could you give a 30-minute presentation on at a moment's notice and with zero preparation?
The bickering between a teenage sister and a tween sister!  (My daughters...)

 3. Share with us a favorite food memory from childhood.
Every Sunday after Church, we would all (extended family) go to my Grandfather and Grandmother's house for Sunday Dinner.  I have a lot of wonderful memories of playing with cousins and eating my Grandmother's cooking :)

 4. What's a song you thought you knew the lyrics to, but later discovered you were wrong?
Just about every one!  lol

 5. According to one travel website, the most overrated tourist attractions in America are-
Niagara Falls (NY), Hollywood Walk of Fame (California), Times Square (NYC), Epcot (FL), Seattle Space Needle (WA), and Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market (Boston). How many of these have you seen in person? Did you feel like a tourist? Did you care? Tell us about a place (not on the list) you've visited that might be considered a tourist trap, but you love it anyway.

The only one I've been to is Niagara Falls, NY.  It did feel touristy but I didn't care.  It was beautiful and we had a great time.  Another place I love to visit it Lancaster County, PA.

 6. Your signature clothing item?
Flip-flops.  From March through November!

 7. What's an experience you've had you think everyone should experience at least once? Why?
Holding your baby for the first time.  It is magical!

 8. Insert your own random thought here.

It is great to be back from my blogging break.  I always miss it when I'm gone...

I'd love to return the visit!  Please leave a comment and a link!

Teaser Tuesday ~ Farm Fresh Murder ~ 4/25/17

http://thepurplebooker.com

My teaser for this week is from:

7100504

~"What?"  I yelled into my cell phone.

Again, Allison murmured something on the other end.

"Hang on a second, Sis, I can't hear a word."  I tucked the phone (still flipped open) into my overalls pocket, pulled off my face mask and a jam-splattered plastic glove, and turned down my version of morning coffee--today it was Springsteen.~

What do you think?

  In the seaside town of Lighthouse Cove in northern California, everyone knows the best man for the job is actually a woman—contractor Shannon Hammer. But while Shannon can do wonders with a power drill and a little elbow grease, she’s about to discover that some problems aren’t so easily fixed....
Shannon’s home-renovation and repair business is booming, but her love life needs work. On a blind date with real estate agent Jerry Saxton, she has to whip out a pair of pliers to keep Jerry from getting too hands on. Shannon is happy to put her rotten date behind her, but when Jerry’s found dead in a run-down Victorian home that she’s been hired to restore, the town’s attractive new police chief suspects that her threats may have laid the foundation for murder.

Determined to clear her name, Shannon conducts her own investigation—with the help of her four best friends, her eccentric father, a nosy neighbor or two, and a handsome crime writer who’s just moved to town. But as they get closer to prying out the murderer’s identity, Shannon is viciously attacked. Now she’ll have to nail down the truth—or end up in permanent foreclosure.…

On a bitter December day in 1785, Silas Ballantyne arrives at the door of master blacksmith Liege Lee in York, Pennsylvania. Just months from becoming a master blacksmith himself, Silas is determined to finish his apprenticeship and move west. But Liege soon discovers that Silas is a prodigious worker and craftsman and endeavors to keep him in York. Silas becomes interested in both of Liege's daughters, the gentle and faith-filled Eden and the clever and high-spirited Elspeth. When he chooses one, will the other's jealousy destroy their love?

In this sweeping family saga set in western Pennsylvania, one man's choices in love and work, in friends and enemies, set the stage for generations to come. "Love's Reckoning" is the first entry in The Ballantyne Legacy, a rich, multi-layered historical quartet from talented writer Laura Frantz, beginning in the late 1700s and following the Ballantyne family through the end of the Civil War.
