My Weekly Bookishness ~ 8/7/20

All things bookish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I Read:
The review will be up soon!
~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm Reading:

Blurb:

Lord Morley's life will change forever when he wins a game of cards and a family of sisters to go along with it.

Miss Standish in none too pleased to have become the responsibility of yet another Lord, even if he is full of charm and goodness. Her responsibilities are to her sisters first.

With the repairs on the castle moving forward nicely and concerted efforts in a season in Bath made to find suitors for them all, Miss Standish and Lord Morley must determine where duty stops and matters of the heart take over.

First Lines:

Morley stared at his best friend, waiting for the man to look up from his cards.  Gerald was losing terribly.

56%/Page 56

June hadn't considered marriage to be much more than a business arrangement, one she hoped her heart would be engaged in.

What I'll (Probably) Read Next:

She was hiding from her past…
When a local woman goes missing and Sheriff Blake Jenkins delivers her blood sample to DNA expert Emory Steele for analysis, Blake discovers Emory is a dead ringer for the missing woman. Blake’s gut says the woman is related to Emory. But Emory rejects the notion, requiring a DNA test before she’ll concede that she does indeed have a twin sister she never knew about.

Now she’ll do anything to see it come to light.
Emory joins Blake in a search for her missing sister, but when an attempt is made to abduct Emory as well, they begin to think the abduction is related to Emory’s birth parents. Blake vows to keep her under his watch until they discover what this maniac is looking for and bring him to justice. But Emory balks at him wanting to keep her under constant surveillance as she’s struggling to come to grips with a former brutal attack, and she wants nothing to do with a man who might want to get close to her. When it becomes clear that Blake is the only one who can keep her safe, will she let him get close enough to do so?

Book Haul:

Nothing new this week...

Book Blogger Hop:

Q.  Do you read books by diverse authors or books with diverse characters (such as LGBT, ethnic minorities, religious minorities, etc)? If yes, do you have any book recommendations? Do you visit indie and/or used bookstores? Also, have you ever worked in any? (submitted by Kristin @ Lukten av Trykksverte)

A.  I tend to read books of different genres but most are within the Christian/Clean categories.  I used to read mainstream on a daily basis but throughout the years I've weaned myself of the addiction.  Now I tend to read wholesome books that I don't have to be ashamed of if my mom would catch me reading it!   And I'm 42!  lol

Thankful Thursday ~ 8/6/20

Here are some things that made me thankful this week:

~~~~~~~~~~~
~ A Clean Family Room!  We worked all day cleaning and re-arranging the Family Room to function a little bit better.  I'm ashamed at how much dog hair had collected under/behind the couches since last time they were pulled out for cleaning.  We took down Kona's "bed" (crate) and are going to try trusting her to behave while we're away from the house.  So far so good :)
~Cleaning the Church Building!  Today was my last day to clean the Church Building.  I don't mind cleaning it when it is my turn but it always is a relief to pass the duty on to the next set of volunteers.  We sign up for a monthly rotation and it seems like my cleaning partner and I always get July when life is crazy hectic.  I think my next "turn" isn't until January...
!
~A "Non-Planner" Day!  My old planner ended on Saturday, August 1 and my new planner didn't start until Monday, August 3.  Therefore, I went a whole day without looking at a planner!  It felt very odd...  Thankfully I didn't have anything out of the ordinary going on that I would have to remember :)
~Laken's 13 Year Checkup!  Monday Laken had her checkup with the pediatrician.  Her asthma is being treated and managed fairly well.  She also got her Sport's Physical paperwork completed while there.  Now she can officially play Volleyball when "official" practices start.
~Cooler Weather!  It actually felt like Fall today.  The temperature was in the 60F's this morning and only go up in the 70F's.  It felt glorious to sit on the porch and feel the cool breeze :)
~No More Vet Appointments!  Lilah had her last vet appointment today for her eye.  The vet said that as long as she doesn't scratch at it she should be good to go!  Not to sound harsh, but weekly vet appointment were getting expensive!
What are you thankful for this week?
Wondering Wednesday ~ Favorite Snack ~ 8/5/20
Welcome to Wondering Wednesdays hosted by A Baker's Perspective, a weekly post to learn more about me and other bloggers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today’s questions is – What is your favorite snack?

My Answer - What a loaded question!  If I'm being honest and I am, I'd say Doritos or Oreos and milk.

However, I'm TRYING to be healthier.

White Cheddar Poppables are yummy but very addicting.  They are very WW (weight watcher) friendly though.  So if I can limit my consumption they are a healthy snack.

I wish I could say my favorite snacks were apples and carrots.  I like apples but I can't say I crave them or that they satisfy me when I'm looking for a snack.  As for vegetables....YUCK!

I do like cheese and crackers.  I guess that would be mid-way between healthy and unhealthy.  In moderation.

What is your favorite snack?

My Weekly Bookishness ~ 7/31/20

All things bookish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I Read:
(Click on the cover to read the review)
I haven't read anything in a month!  How can that be?
It has been a busy summer but I need it to slow down just a bit!
~~~~~~~~~~

What I'm Reading:

I'm reading this book as part of a facebook "Jane Austen Book Club"!  This is our first selection :)

Blurb:

In California's central valley, five women and one man join to discuss Jane Austen's novels. Over the six months they get together, marriages are tested, affairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable, and love happens. With her eye for the frailties of human behavior and her ear for the absurdities of social intercourse, Karen Joy Fowler has never been wittier nor her characters more appealing. The result is a delicious dissection of modern relationships.

First Lines:

We sat in a circle on Jocelyn's screened porch at dusk, drinking cold sun tea, surrounded by the smell of her twelve acres of fresh-mowed California grass.

56%/Page 56

She was a dental hygienist, but not a passionate one--she'd chosen it because it seemed like a job that would allow her time to write.

Q.   If you haven't read a book in awhile and someone asks about a character or the plot, can you recall the details? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)

A.  If it was a very memorable book, yes.  If it gets bogged down in my mind with other books, then no.
