Make it Monday ~ Unforgettable Granny Cowl ~ 11/2/15

I picked up 2 skeins of this Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable in Stained Glass because I thought the colors were beeaauuttiful!  I didn't really have a project in mind for it but that didn't stop me.  hehe

I did some searching through the patterns on Ravelry and came across this Granny Square Cowl by Crocheting with Raymond.  I love me some granny squares and thought the colors of the yarn would work up beautifully in granny squares.

I wasn't wrong!  I love how the squares turned out.  So pretty!  My daughter, Kaylee, is my model :)

I made it 7 squares of 8 rounds so that it would be long enough to wrap around the neck or let hang free.

I crocheted the edging as suggested in the pattern and love how it turned out.

However, I did NOT love this yarn.  I loved the color and the color changes but the texture was hard to work with.  It was thinner than I'm used to and was easily knotted.  I don't think I'll be buying any more of this yarn.

I WILL be making more Granny Square Cowls though :)

Please leave me a comment with a link so I can return the visit!!

  2. Beautiful! Glad to get a bit of a review of the yarn. I always come across it in the yarn isle and am always tempted to buy some :-) I've worked with yarn that does not want to cooperate, and it really seems to take away from the peace of crocheting! Wonderful pattern though. I may try my hand at a granny square vest/sweater from my one year old. It's a neat pattern, and a first for me working in granny squares. Have a blessed day!!

  3. This is so pretty, who doesn't love granny squares.? The color is pretty too. I am a Caron Simply Soft fan, the yarn is pretty like the one used, has a shimmer and so soft next to the skin. I've made 2 granny ponchos with it so far, I like the way it works up.

  8. Thank you for the review on the yarn. It looks like it would be kind of stringy/fray easily too. Did you have that problem with it as well?

  9. I love how that yarn produced such colorful squares effortlessly (i.e. without lots of ends!) The scarf is beautiful, and having worked with this yarn I know it is soft. Great choice of yarn for this scarf.

  10. I have made some ruffle scarves with this yarn and love how they turned out. I like working with thin yarn though. I have some left and now feel inspired to use some of it for a granny square cowl; I love your idea and how yours turned out.

  11. Pretty! I love RH Boutique Unforgettable yarn. It is a roving yarn so it isn't wound as tightly as other yarns and can vary in thickness throughout the skein. It does take some getting used to but once you work with it a bit it's not too bad.I usually practice a new pattern/stitch a little with plain yarn first to make sure I have the pattern down to minimize the need to frog. Keep your darning needle handy to help loosen any places that have gotten stuck when frogging. Just work your darning needle through the fuzz to free the strand of yarn. I have made several projects with RH Unforgettable. It truly is a gorgeous yarn. It is very soft and holds up well to wash and wear. I even made a baby blanket out of it.
