Hodgepodge and Chats ~ 8/15/12

This week's questions:

1. I included this quote (attributed to William H. Danforth) in my blog post yesterday... "The best cure for a sluggish mind is to disturb it's routine." When was the last time you 'disturbed your routine' and how'd you do it?

The last time I disturbed my routine was last Saturday.  Instead of spending the day cleaning, the girls and I went to Laurel Hills State Park and hung out by the lake all day.  It was wonderful!

2. What's your favorite fried food indulgence?

Hands down---  French Fries!

3. Did you have an allowance as a kid? What did you do with it? Do you give your own kids an allowance?

Nope.  My parents barely made it by and I knew that.  I didn't expect to get paid to help out my family.  Once I got older, I did start working during the summers in the sewing shop my Mom and Aunts had.  I used that money to buy school clothes.

We've done a bit of the "allowance" thing in the past but they had a check-list of things they needed to do on a daily basis in order to get it.  I'm going to be re-starting the routine check-list this week but I don't know about the allowance.  I'll be interested to see what others think about the subject.  I'm of two minds about it.
4. What's something you wish you knew more about?

The Spanish language.  I only took 2 years of it in high school and wish that I was fluent.  At some point I'd like to take some kind of course on it.  I've heard that the Rosetta Stone language curriculum is very good.

5. Is there anything you feel too old to do anymore? If so, what?

Roller-skating.  It isn't that I feel I'm too old to do it anymore becaue I NEVER could!  I just feel like I'm too old to go out, make a fool of myself and end up with a broken bone due to foolishness!  lol  I have too many responsibilities to be laid up.

6. What's a song you think has a great first line?

"Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine!"

7. Who are you writing to/for when you create a blog post? In other words...as you write, who is the audience in your head?

I guess the audience in my mind would be my blog followers and those I know will be participating in the link-ups that I participate in.

More than writing for an audience, I try to always keep the following in the front of my mind:  Will what I write be a good influence on those who DO read my blog?

8. Insert your own random thought here.

This might be TMI, but it is what is on my heart and mind.  On Friday, I go to the hospital to have a few "female" procedures done.  I would appreciate any and all prayers for things to go well :)

This week's questions:
1.  What was your biggest fear as a child?

Hmmm....Probably the dark and the things my vivid imagination had hiding there.

2.  Who taught you to cook?

My Mom by having me help her with our family meals.  (I also had to help with the dishes afterward.  bleh!)

My Gram also had a big hand in helping me learn to bake.  Especially cookies :)

3.  Do you have a lot of books in your home?

Ummm....I plead the Fifth.  Actually, yes, I do.  Besides my many devotionals, craft books and children's books, I have about 100 books on my to-be-read shelves.  My kids are getting quite a collection also :)  I'm so proud!

4.  Do you like carrot cake? Patrice says frosting is good on top. If you like that cake, what kind of frosting do you like best? On top? Hmm. I guess you wear it like a hat.

Surprising, yes, I do like carrot cake.  It is surprising because in any other form I wouldn't touch a carrot or most vegetables in fact.  But put those carrots in the form of a cake and add some Cream Cheese Icing and yum, yum, yum.  My Mom's recipe (which I also now claim) is the best!

5.  What's did the last funny t-shirt you read say? (It doesn't have to reflect your personal feeling about the topic, just be funny and family friendly.)

"Hello Friday, I've been waiting for you!"

Have a great day!

  1. Blessed Assurance is one of my favorite hymns : ) I'm going to try Rosetta Stone French. I know some French but am not close to fluent. We'll see how it goes.

I hope all goes well on Friday and I will keep you in my prayers.

  2. I would love to learn a 2nd language as well - and I think spanish would be the most handy :) I took it in high school too, but hardly remember a thing! Then I took Greek in college - but not the kind you speak!

  3. I used to think there were all sorts of things in the dark too. Books are good. You have me beat with the "to be read"books. I have a few waiting on my Kindle too, and they don't get dusty! Cute t-shirt. Have a great week.

  4. You reminded me of my grandmother singing in the kitchen- she always hummed hymns and Blessed Assurance was one of her favorites. I'm with you on the roller skating. It's the fear of the broken bone that keeps me from it. My grandmother made a mean carrot cake with cream cheese icing too!

You have the best opening lyrics of the day :)
